Franchise Mode

132 posts in this topic

Now I have a question, we all know the different ways people play Franchise, and I wanna ask what is your guys style, do you just take a super team(Colts, Patriots, Steelers) and just build them to constantly be SB Champs, do you take a good team and take them to the Super Bowl, do you take a sucky team and rebuild them from the ground up to SB Champs and finally the Fantasy Football guy who either does the Fantasy Draft option or just trades all his picks to build up a Super Team lol. Which style fits you?

Edit: I forgot about another style, The Josh McDaniels approach and taking a team and trading away the good players.

I was itching for some football before the Raven-Steelers game so I did a fantasy draft. I was right in the middle of the pack with the 16th selection. My 1st three picks were 1.Reed, 2. Dockett 3. Megatron.

I ended up with a pretty sick team, and of course I run a 3-4.

DE - Alualu, Dockett
NT - Raji
OLB - Kindle, Misi
ILB - Timmons, Rolando McClain
CB - Flowers, S.Smith, Fabian and Scandrick
FS - Reed, Major Wright
SS - Bob Sanders, Eric Berry

QB - Vick
HB - Mendenhall, Spiller
WR - Megatron, Crabtree, D.Thomas,
TE - Cook Jr, Dickson, Graham

Take a bad team and rebuild, usually I like specific personnel and try not to cheat by exploiting position changes.

Yeah I pretty much try all except the Fantasy Draft. I rebuild teams, continue making SB teams champions, taking teams who are close and making them SB Champs, and rebuilding a team to a SB team. Though I haven't done the McDaniels approach yet, not too sure which team I would want to pick apart lol.

Who's Megatron?
Calvin Johnson.

Though I would like to know who Calvin Johnson Jr. is though, every update by EA this Calvin Johnson Jr. has the face of Calvin Johnson, plays like him Calvin... must be Calvin's clone lol. Never figured out why EA has Calvin listed as a Jr and I have been wanting to figure that out.

The McDaniels approach is good for older players or B rated players, I trade for athletic A rookies and start them.
Yes that is the way it should be done, but you can't go the McDaniels route without trading away a Pro Bowl QB & Receiver other wise it looks like your rebuilding trading away older players.

I will try the McDaniels approach but I have to figure out a good team that has a Pro Bowl QB and Receiver or at least 1 of them to trade away. I'm thinking about trying the McDaniels approach with either the Jaguars, Bengals, Cowboys or Vikings.

My preferences

D-Line: block shedding > passrush moves
Linebackers: Speed, block shedding > zone coverage
Corners: Balanced with press, nickle and dime corners with zone
Safeties: Zone coverage and speed > tackling

Basically read my mind, having those good press corners allows for the safeties to do what they want and allows the Dline and Linebackers to fly around. Here's how I run the sub packages

3-4 Kindle-Cody-Raji-Dockett-Misi
4-6 Alualu-Dockett-Raji-Odrick w/ Timmons and McClain at Lb's
Nickel and Dime - Kindle-Dockett-Alualu-Misi

I have Sanders and Berry sub'd through all different packages as well.

Had my first ever fantasy draft yesterday. I had the 4th pick and AP was still on the board.
Offense:
QB: Big Ben
RB: Adrian Peterson
FB: Kuhn
WR: Megatron, Dez Bryant, Golden Tate, Stallworth
TE: Kellen Winslow
LT: Oher G: Mack, and Spears C: drawing a blank(85 ovr) RT: Yanda

Defense:
CB: D-Hall, McFadden, Malcom Jenkins
FS: Jairus Byrd
SS: LaRon Landry
MLB: Morrison, Rolando McClain
OLB: Suggs, Tamba Hali
DT: Tommie Harris, MT. Cody
DE: Justin Tuck, Corry Redding

My weakest point is probably my o-line. Didn't think I needed a great o-line for Big Ben and AP.

So, I've been going through franchise mode as the Ravens and only lose 1-2 games a season. So I figure, maybe the games just too easy. I start a franchise with Buffalo... and I start off going 1-2 the first three weeks. Can't throw for garbage with Fitzpatrick lol...

I usually turn the salary cap off if I am going to run a franchise. I have noticed the game is more fun and a lot more mistakes happen if you use the lesser teams, everything seems to come easy when you use the elite teams. Whenever I play someone online I try to matchup with whatever the other teams overall is.

It seems that the Ravens are set up to be completely screwed over if you leave the cap on considering over half of the teams contracts expire after the first season, and another third after two, and you only have a starting cap of 30m.

With the weird ways that '11 work with penalties, etc. I don't see how leaving it on would ever work, unless you use a draft guide, like my friend does and is in his 9th year with no problem.

ughhhhhhhhhh

Could always cheat and switch Ngata, Rice, or whatever other player that wants big bucks to a position that they're horrible at, then sign them for whatever you want them for. Just remember to switch them back to their original position afterwards heh.

This is how I got Ngata to sign 7 years/10 mil. :D

I love taking a bad team and making them a playoff contender in 2-3 years. You have to draft smart though.

Yeah it sucks having so many players coming up with contracts ending but that is the fun of it too I guess. Figuring out who is worthy of getting a contract and who you can replace in the draft with a younger guy, etc.

The good ole cheat that allows you to keep everybody. I have done that a few times but I don't like it, I mean there are times where I feel forced too because the way contracts are in the game, a real life contract that players sign aren't good enough in Madden and you over pay.

Now for me, the thing about the Ravens having many contracts up, doesn't bother me for the first 2 years. I guess you could say I have my own "house rules," like I follow the no salary cap rules where if you don't have 6 years of service, you become tendered. If they do have 6 or more years I decide on giving them a new contract or like above let them go and find younger talent to replace them. Also what I do to make sure it goes with every team, in the Player Management screen outside of Franchise, I go to every team and apply the Tender rule to all players to keep it realistic as possible regardless I am running Franchise with 1 team, multiple teams or all 32 teams.

Hey guys, for those who like franchise mode stuff, this site is free and good for that. I've been playing it for some months now and it is better than madden imo in terms of depth of player attributes and how things go on the field. Not so much an arcade high score on 4 plays type of game, but very realistic type of sim.

The Browns aren't going to beat you guys this season, so I'd like to get some wins in fantasy franchise against you guys at least ;)

BTW, you guys are really Browns, don't forget that :P hehehe

Just started a new Franchise with the Cardinals and simmed the 1st season and went 5-11. Picked up a stud LT in the first(this dude is 6'10!), got a MLB to replace Dansby, and got my Franchise QB(isn't it fitting his last name is Champion) to sit behind..... DONOVAN MCNABB! I went and traded away my 2012 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Round Picks for Donovan McNabb but it is worth it. Oddly enough, the first home game of the year, I face the Redskins. My defense stops them on their first possession, and I ran the ball well with Beanie Wells, and decided it was time to test out the McNabb-Fitzgerald Connection, and also it's the very first pass by McNabb in a Cardinals uniform. McNabb to Fitzgerald TOUCHDOWN 48 Yards!

I don't do many trades like this as I like to build through the draft but this is one that will certainly pay off!

If you want to know, the new Redskins QB is.... Brady Quinn! :229031_rofl:

Edit: With the McNabb-Fitzgerald Connection I destroyed the Redskins. I won 38 to 0. McNabb was 11/13 for 253 Yards 3 TDs and 1 Interception. 2 of those TDs went to Fitzgerald and he accumulated 150 Yards on the day. Beanie Wells had 145 Yards rushing and 1 TD, the other TD came off a Brady Quinn Pick 6 by DRC.

Think I'm on track to set some records with McNabb as my QB in Arizona lol.

Through 3 games... I have had 2 shut outs, 9 sacks, 2 Interceptions, and have only allowed 6 points total(vs Eagles, they got 2 FGs) 3 defensive players have already racked up 6 tackles... I have faced the Redskins & Eagles and here are some McNabb stats:

QB Rating: 145.6
Passing Yards: 624
Interceptions: 1
Passing Completions: 33
Passing Attempts: 45
Completion Percentage: 73%
Yards Per Game: 208.0

Fitzgerald Stats:
13 Receptions; 298 Receiving Yards; 3 TDs

McNabb to Fitzgerald = Championship!
