Millar Predicts Title For Orioles

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) ―

Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster earlier this week predicted Chicago would win the World Series. Not to be outdone, Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar insisted Baltimore would become champions in October.

The retooled Orioles aren't expected to do much this season, but Millar isn't conceding anything.

He says it's not going to be a 130-loss season -- quote -- "If we do what we're capable of doing, things could be OK. If Aubrey Huff hits 30 home runs and Brian Roberts is capable of hitting .330 and all of a sudden Kevin Millar hits 28 home runs and all of a sudden (Daniel) Cabrera turns a corner and wins 18 games, things can go in the right direction."

ummmm yeah......i hope he means a title for most losses in a season

Its not that bad if you go to the ball park and your team is winning. Watching the O's on TV makes me want to curse.

Where does it say anything in his quotes about predicting a title? The nearest I can find is about 'going in the right direction'. Typical sensationalized reporting.

Anyway, I'd be delighted if they just got to 500. I'm not the biggest baseball fan, but I love a nice summer's evening at the ball park with a few beers and a hot dog. It's just more fun when the O's are winning.

Hah, you're absolutely right about the quote.

I'm really hoping they do go "in the right direction" though. Aside from the whole my-team-winning-a-few-games thing, I could use a boost against the new hordes of Boston fans at my college.

i read an article from the baltimore sun earlier today that the Orioles released Outfielder Jay Gibbons.....in which they still have to pay Gibbons somewhere around $11.9 million over the next 2 years.

Wasn't he in the Mitchell Report?

I've heard that he wasn't going to get much playing time, so it wouldn't have been good for either side if he stayed.

yea but now....he's not on the the orioles roster AND they still have to pay him.....which is awkward seeing how he's not with Baltimore anymore.

It's not too late to go 161-1.

lol yea.....being optimistic is a vital/key ability to have when your an Oriole fan.....and patience is a much needed took in which is strained most times, but like i said regarding our beloved Ravens......things will eventually turn around for them and they will get back on track eventually.

Exactly. They are breaking the mold. They usually start out well and screw it up bigtime at the end. Maybe they will start out sucking this time and turn it around and make a run for it at the end.

I love my O's, but we are 2-3 years (after this one) away from contending again =( On that note, who all is going to see Bedard pitch on Sunday in his return to B-more??
