We all know Ray Rice didn't play against Carolina, but he also might not go against the Redskins. I know we do not want him to get injured, but i still think we should play him so he's not totally rusty. Any thoughts?

Thoughts? Pointless thread...

Bad day at work!!

Edit - home, had a few drinks and I feel better now!!

I say play him sparingly to get up to game speed, but SPARINGLY. But, my opinion on this matter goes for all of our play making starters - i.e. skills postions.

I agree he needs to get a couple carries, but really, how can a football player be rusty after 21 days of training camp? All he's done is football for 3 weeks. I don't think he'd be too rusty.

I am all for playing the starters for one series and one series only.
Get the second string as much live time as possible then let the second half be the job application half.

I say no. Even with the addition of Q, Rice is still this team's best playmaker in my opinion. You don't risk getting your best playmaker getting hurt in meaningless games.

He knows how to carry the rock and to chip-block and get open for check-downs; he won't be rusty.

I say unequivocally yes he should play! ***

***unless of course he gets hurt then it was the worst decision ever made. :th_shame:

Although I want to see Ray Rice to play badly, I voted no because he's too valuable to risk for any unnecessary injury. He's the key for our WR to get open or vice-versa.

I think Rice should play as much as he did against CAR. Rice had about 4 or 5 plays in the first game, but didn't get a carry or catch.

I think the first O will play a full half this game, seeing as though they play a full quarter in game one. So if that's the case, Rice should get the first series, McGahee should get the second, and McClain should get the third.

After that you feature more of the 4/5 WR sets, more of the 3 TE 2 WR sets just to get everyone some work with the starting O.

I can't see the first O getting more then 4 possessions in this game. Or should i say Flacco shouldn't get any more then 4 possessions in this game. After the 4th possession, Bluger should take over with the firt offensive line.

No. Unleash him when it counts and not a minute sooner. As much as I want to see him i'd rather he not risk injury. Our O-line is banged up right now.

No.
With McGahee, Parmele, and Curtis, there's no real need to play him. Let the man rest, god knows he won't get much of it once the wins and losses start to count.

Ray probably gets used a lot this year. I would rather have him fresher at the end of the season than well oiled for the pre-season and early season. Having watched Ray for 7 years I know he will be ready to go for game 1 no problemo.

Yes, play Rice as much as Flacco and the other starters. But if he doesn't get the ball like last week, then it's all good, we know what he can do. So far, I've read that he's just tearing the weight room up this offseason. I can't wait to see him actually make a play, even if it is in the preseason.

I say we keep Rice out of harm's way while we can. There simply is no need to play him in the preseason. Everyone knows how great Rice is, and it's not like he's fighting for a roster spot. He has put a lot of work in this offseason...I say we be patient and let the lion out of the cage on Monday Night Football.

Ray said he's benching 400 and squatting 500. His calves are bigger than a lot of D-lineman. That's one reason he went to pro-bowl and chicken legs McFadden (60 mil/26 mil guaranteed) taken in same draft is till trying to stay on the field. I saw that situation coming

Woah he's benching 400. I have a feeling that number is a little inflated but just being in that area at his weight and height is beastly.

As for playing him, no.

We already know Rice is the unquestioned starter and all in all a beast. However, we are still taking a look at Steele and Parmele to see if they can be capable backups as well as still trying to showcase Willis's value and give him some reps as well as seeing what McClain can do if Willis is dealt (which I doubt). And if Rice is really having the stellar offseason its sounded like he's had, why would we want to provide other teams with new and improved film on him?

I actually am not surprised by him saying Rice benches 400 lbs. Rice is a premier NFL athlete, after all. My friend who is similar in size to me (6'1", 165 lbs) can bench about 205 lbs, so to think Rice is benching almost twice his weight should not come as a surprise. I could very well be wrong, though.

@eandb17: So let me understand this. You think that after coming out of the toughest camp in the NFL that Ray could be rusty??? I said no and I stand by that! As a matter of fact, I say lets keep all the projected starters out of this one. It's an away game, no need to showcase them and risk injury, they have nothing to prove in a meaningless game.

You have to put him in for atleast two series. He has to get in there and get some contact. If you keep him out you might as well take Flacco, Boldin, and Mason out, If they are worried about someone getting hurt. They are going to be playmakers just like Rice will be.

He needs to get some reps in a game situation. It's silly not to play him at all the entire preseason. The Patriots are playing Tom Brady in the preseason, I think we can play Ray Rice.

I said "Yes" but wouldn't complain in the least if he didn't play. He's probably dying to play against someone else's D for a change.

This is just my humble opinion, but I think it's a lot more important to get your franchise QB reps in the preseason as opposed to your franchise RB. I doubt nearly as many people would say we should sit Flacco all preseason. I would be way against that.

I know Ray was doing 350 at Rutgers. He did 23 reps of 225lbs at the NFL combine. When I first benched 300 I could do 225 8x so 23 is really up there. Ray's now in season three so I wasn't surprised he's stronger. Plus shorter guys with shorter arms can often bench more than people think (and big guys with long arms can often do less than people think)

Ray is tough cookie for a momma's boy (which he will tell you he is). I have a fun video of his mom yelling at him to put his hood on during a rainy game at Army:

Thanks! I've been looking for an excuse/reason why I don't lift a lot on bench. I'm 6'3", about 200lbs and don't lift a ton :) :)
