Will Zorn Help Flacco?

14 posts in this topic

We all know that adding WR like Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth will give a deep threat on the Pass Offense but do you think Jim Zorn has more experience than the former Ravens QB coach Hue Jackson and can develop Flacco to be from average to above average? The former Seahawk has helped develop Matt Hasselbeck. Do you think he can do the same for Flacco? :ravensquote:

@RayZ27. Your font is killing me haha.

Yes Jim Zorn will help Joe Flacco. I love Hue Jackson. I think he is a big part of the reason for Flacco's improvement. But it's nice to get another coach with a different coaching style, different things for Flacco to learn on. I think if we would have gotten any other coach other than Jim Zorn to fill in for Jackson then I think it would have been a step down. But Zorn is a proven qb coach and he is good at what he does. And Zorn needs to help improve Flacco. The fate on our team is on Flacco's shoulders. so in a sense we need Zorn to be successful.

I think we've already seen some of Zorn's effect on Flacco, as Flacco's mechanics were cleaned up significantly. If you go back and watch that first preseason game, Flacco no longer pats the ball before throwing. Also, Flacco's decision-making is much quicker (save for those sacks he took), and his throws were much crisper. The deep ball continues to be a thing of beauty.

yep, Joe improved greatly, reacting to pass rusher quicker than he was used to be. As time goes on, you will see Joe will shine and excel significantly. All I want to say, he is a beast. :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

Do we really want Flacco reacting to the pass rush quicker then last year...?

I felt him being so quick to break the play up and scramble or dump to rice was one of the problems..

If anything he needs to relax and stay in the pocket alittle longer..

To answer the OP's question. Yes. What other option is there? Hurt Flacco? Its Jim Zorn.

I think that we want Flacco to be able to have a better sense of the pocket. When someone gets a free rush on him there's not much he can do, but we want him making slight adjustments to pressure if it gives him more time.

I have no doubt that Zorn could help develop Flacco. Was there ever a more creative quarterback? Or a quarterback that could make a play out of nothing as well as Zorn? In his day he basically made that team. I think he could make Flacco into an outstanding quarterback with his insight of the game and his experiece. I have no doubt that it was a great move to get Zorn as qb coach and I know it will have many benefits.

What Flacco did last year as far as dumping off to rice or any other type of rushed play wasnt necessarily a bad thing. At the beginning of the season you didnt see him do this as often and he was very successful getting the ball down the field to a variety of recievers. His play style didnt change that drastically until he took that beating against the Vikes. He did what any QB would do to protect himself from further injury and also the ball. The outcome of this playstyle also showed what a beast Ray was out of the backfield. I would expect, with the added coaching, for Flacco to continue his outstanding performance and be the QB we have all been waiting for.
