Smackdown Vs Raw 2011

37 posts in this topic

I have been reading info on this game for a little bit and have been impressed by it. This might be the best SD vs Raw game ever. Check out this site and watch the video on the page with the trailer for the game, it looks great. Here's some key stuff:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1113429p1.html
-Free-roaming backstage environments are back

- No longer have to earn your Create-A-Superstars attributes,

- Hell in a Cell has been revamped: the most realistic HIAC (Hell in a Cell) the world has ever seen. The structure is bigger than ever, the walls are far enough from the ring that steel steps are in there, and all the goodies you'd expect are behind the apron. Also cool: the door has been removed from the cell. The only way to get out now is to perform opponent-hurling moves into the wall closest to the announce table and barrel through the steel. Look for new moves from the top of the cell as well such as the Last Ride, super kicks and so on.

- Anything you're doing outside of the Road to WrestleMania storylines or online matches is taking place in "WWE Universe," a mode that wraps storylines, feuds and a programming schedule into one package that's always evolving and changing.

- It'll pack a more current roster of Superstars than SVR 2010 (of the 70-plus wrestlers, the Undertaker, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, The Miz, John Cena, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Jack Swagger, Triple H, Big Show, Evan Bourne, Christian, Edge, Bret Hart, Michelle McCool, and Eve are confirmed)

- WWE Universe. Basically, this shoves everything you do in exhibition, all of the championships, all of the stables and rivalries system, and whatever else into one mode that's always active. When WWE Universe is on, it's going to give you an event – Raw, Superstars, SmackDown or a pay-per-view – and an event card. This isn't generated at random. This is a card based on the feuds and friendships that exist on your system as well as rankings. Now, if you don't like the matches, you're free to change them however you like – different people, different stipulations, etc. – and the game will react, remember, and craft the story around it.

- All of this actually matters, as well. There's a ranking system in WWE Universe that shows where certain Superstars stand in the federation. As you play – and keep in mind, you can play as whomever you want or as many people as you want – your character or characters start to move in the rankings and vie for number one contender spots and championships. You need to earn your ticket to the top… or at least jump in and edit it so that you're the champ.

- Road To Wrestlemania Revamped:
In WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, you set out on a Superstar's life, but you live it like never before. Now, you wander the backstage area and interact with other Superstars. Mini-quests pop up, fights break out, you talk to the commissioner, and so on. If that kind of exploring isn't your thing, you can just walk to the story objective on your mini-map and keep the tale rolling – it's your choice. You need to make decisions about whom you align yourself with, too, and that will lead to different endings and story segments.
That's all I'm going to mention as you just have to read the article for the rest of the great stuff lol so consider the above a teaser lol. Plus it's two pages so I figure it would be easier for you guys to read the article than a giant long quote on a post lol.

Game comes out October 26th.

I'm definitely hoping I find work by then so I can pick this up. Haven't bought (only rented) a WWE game in ages.
I haven't bought one since 08, I only rented 09 & 10. Sd vs Raw 2011 looks like a buy this year.

WoOoOow, this game could be the best yet. AND they have Jeff Hardy's hair so I can create him, but they better put in his real armbands, not the crappy ones they've had. Anyway, whooo hooo!

Even though THQ catches some flack in the same vein as EA Sports and their yearly updates, you have to admit that the SvR series has at least had enough annual changes to justify the retail price for some fans, myself included. This year, however, looks to be the game that'll give us fans more than enough bang for our buck.

Just looking at all the features for 2011, even if they're done half-heartedly, they're still fresh enough that I'd (strangely) be happy playing a rather rushed product based on the gameplay engine from last year's title. The WWE Universe gimmick sounds intriguing and the cutscenes (no matter how random or illogical they may end up being) look to be a step in the right direction for the series. There's never really been a focused Story/Season Mode, with SmackDown 2 remaining the closest to being a "satisfying" (yet mediocre) experience in the series. I'm happy the release date's been bumped to late October (as opposed to mid-November) and I'm glad the game looks polished at this stage of development.

There's an ECW Invasion going on in TNA... but not WWE. So I'd find it hard to believe that they'd include the same exact storyline in a WWE game that's going on in TNA.

Well there is no ECW invasion angle going on in TNA, because ECW doesn't exist in TNA and they're not a heel faction that is doing an invasion angle.

The rumored ECW invasion angle was developed pre NXT, with the WWE ECW wrestlers invading Raw and Smackdown. Now it's feasable because SvR is known for using extremely out of date rosters with wrestlers up to two years removed.

Yep you are right, it was developed before NXT came about but you would think from the time when NXT Started in Feb to the release of the game they would remove the ECW angle, turn ECW into NXT and get the NXT stars in the game(season 1 at least with Season 2 as DLC) but maybe we'll get a title update where they remove ECW and add NXT in it's place.

You bring up the roster thing, you know I don't re-call a single Superstar as DLC last year. I mean even when Sheamus won the WWE Title in December, they didn't even add him and other missing people in which some had WWE titles, like Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Yeah you would think somehow when a superstar gets released Vince or someone calls THQ and says we released this guy, take him off and add this person in. I mean not sure what the full roster is but I have a feeling we'll have some pretty good DLC this year when it comes to Superstars.

THQ allegedly is placing more of an emphasis on keeping the game up-to-date this year, presumably as a pre-emptive measure against UFC 2010's lackluster sales. They realize that both fanbases cross over significantly onto both titles, so they need to rebuild consumer confidence back in the SvR series, hence the plethora of new features as well as promised post-release support.

That's good. I think it would be great to keep it up to date where they add DLC every once in a while with Legends, and new superstars who were just brought to the main roster(Del Rio) and the NXT Season 1 & 2 Cast.

I read on Pasta Padre that THQ is having their own online pass(like Madden has) to access online stuff. The difference is unlike Madden where if you buy it used it will suck, at least with SvR 2011 you can still get the online pass for $10. In fact here is the article on it:

http://www.pastapadre.com/2010/08/20/thq-expands-online-pass-to-svr-2011
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 will ship with a one-time-use code to access online play functionality. The “Online Pass” style program, which THQ has not given their own name to, debuted with UFC Undisputed 2010. However now the company has raised the cost of purchasing access to $10 for those who end up with used copies and there will now be a trial period available. For UFC 2010 it was $5 and no option for a trial period was provided.
Why is Nexus not in the game?!?!?!?!?
That could deteriorate my reasons to buy the game <_<
Usually, SvR's rosters are based around the roster as of the last Wrestlemania. Hence why Shawn Michaels is still in, and Nexus is not (aside from DLC).

Yeah I have noticed that too, which is odd because the game comes out in the fall and to base it off a roster that's from March/April don't make sense. I mean you would think that they keep it updated and WWE informs them of a release/new person to add whenever they release someone and bring up new talent to the main roster. I mean it sucked seeing how Sheamus was WWE Champion and wasn't added as a new talent after he won the title. Hopefully this year they keep it more up to date.

As stated earlier, the roster on the disc is usually finalized after WrestleMania, with June or July being the absolute latest they make the cut; the reason for this is because of the work that goes into coordinating the wrestlers and announcers for the voice-acting bits, plus motion-capturing and face-scanning. To THQ's credit, they've had significantly more year-to-year changes since SvR 2009.

If you really spend a lot of time creating wrestlers, you'll notice that there's tiny variations between basic moves that are motion-captured to match specific superstars. That motion-capturing is why it's so difficult to get a truly accurate roster, or why DLC updates were extremely rare (or, in 2010's case, non-existent). THQ has been saying that they'll do better with DLC this year, but we'll see if they hold up to their end of the bargain by the time next year's edition rolls around.

With the proliferation of new WWE titles from THQ in-between the annual SvR updates, there's also a possibility that they'll stop yearly updates and shoot for every two years, and supplement each year's game with DLC to keep them updated. THQ will still be making money off the WWE brand, but they'll just have different titles now in-between SvR games.

After having played the game for a few hours, I must say, it's definitely well worth the price tag.

I'm having so much fun with WWE Universe Mode! It's actually smart and intuitive and comes up with some decent storylines. Granted, you won't see many of them unfold if you merely simulate the matches on a card, but the feuds and turns that the game sets up are done in a logical way. For instance, face and heel turns are acknowledged and done usually via surprise interference or post-match attacks, etc. The cutscenes aren't heavy and are interspersed well between matches.

I recommend basically focusing on following the cards as they're set up (unless you wish to set up your own custom matches) and sticking to one or two guys you'd like to follow, and watching the Universe unfold. I'm focusing on the main event picture on RAW and, after a series of Cena-Orton encounters with Orton coming out on top each time, I decided to shake things up by having CM Punk beat Cena in a #1 Contenders match, and then having him pin Cena in a triple threat the following week with Orton, setting up a three-way feud. So basically it's Face vs. Tweener vs. Heel, all for the WWE Title.

At first when I read this I was wondering why you left Wade Barrett out but I forgot he isn't in the game lol. Great job putting Punk in there he such deserves it. You know when the first DLC will be available and if the whole Nexus group will be available?

I do wonder if they will do a title update where they add superstars and remove people who aren't in the company, like those who are in TNA now.

They won't remove people; it'd be a waste to do so, as those TNA wrestlers are already on the disc and take up more resources than individual players in Madden, so it'd require extra coding to remove all traces of those TNA wrestlers without removing their movesets entirely, among other assets related to them.

I'm still surprised that Rob Van Dam is in the game since he debuted in TNA back in March and I know the cut-off date for the roster wasn't until probably May or June. Plus, they could've easily made the decision to remove him at the last minute before the game went to print, similar to when WWE removed Chris Benoit in SvR 2008.

First premium DLC (not including the free DLC packaged with activation of the included Online Pass) should be released in late-November or December. It'll be the three NXT Season 1 Finalists (Wade Barrett, David Otunga, and Justin Gabriel) along with the British Bulldog, Lex Luger, Layla, a playable WWE NXT arena, and alternate attire for Shawn Michaels and Shad Gaspard, priced at 560 Microsoft Points or $6.99 on PSN.

The second premium DLC pack (released in early 2011) contains alternate attire for John Cena, The Undertaker, and CM Punk, along with the classic WCW Nitro arena, priced at 240 Microsoft Points or $2.99 on PSN.

Theoretically, if you buy the Fan Axxess pass (different from the Online Axxess pass) for $9.99 on PSN or 800 Microsoft Points, you will have already recouped the cost of buying the first two premium DLC packs. The pass is basically a one-time fee that entitles you to download all of the premium DLC that will be made available over the life of the game.

I created "myself," this time in the mold of a babyface technical wrestler. In WWE Universe mode, I'm basically taking out all of the contenders for the U.S. Title, one-by-one. It's gotten to the point where I'm embroiled in two feuds; Evan Bourne (now a heel) is my primary rival, while I've been back-and-forth against the team of Miz and William Regal, with Stone Cold Steve Austin as my ally after he was revealed as my surprise tag team partner.

The feud with Bourne is intriguing because we've traded blows; he attacked me mid-entrance and pinned me after hitting his signature move and finisher, I attacked him after one of our matches was over, he interfered in one of my matches, I interfered in one of his matches that I happened to be playing.

For being a relatively bare-bones mode, they've done a surprisingly great job of keeping track of rivalries.

Nice. Now do they have a thing where it recognizes Guest Hosts? The reason I ask is I was going to create myself as Guest Host and just promote whatever I can come up with lol. Also it would be cool to use legends as Guest Hosts and stuff.

Also I was going to end up creating AJ Lee and making her my girlfriend lol.
