Kruger Is A Beast

whats funny is it seems you expect greatness in one offseason out of a converted LB who rode the pine all last season. If you dont call that unreasonable Im not sure you can be reasoned with. We have high expectations for the kid but seriously, what were you expecting? 3sacks, 5 tackles, a FF and a TD? He did great for his 2nd game at a new position, so ease up.

Maybe some of you just jumped into the conversation and lost focus on the topic. It said that Paul Kruger is a Beast all i said was not yet and he doesn't deserve to take playing time from people, in my opinion, that are better than him right now.

Fair enough. But the guy he's be taking time from would be veteran free agent Cory Redding and I haven't seen a whole lot from him yet. He did have one big year a couple seasons ago though.

Not a very good comparison... Haloti Ngata is a completely different player then kruger. Kruger is or was a hybrid D-end.. He is suppose to generate sacks and pressures. Ngata is a big body in the middle who makes run stopping plays in the backfield, Not sacks generally.

I do completely agree with bates on this one though. I need to see Kruger break into the ones and make some plays. He's heading the way of bust ATM but he's still got time.

Thank you they seem to lost focus of the thread. Is he good Yes a beast NO its that simple and i still need to see alot more before he cracks the rotation. Especially for a guy with a high motor and great character that does not want to play special teams.

You're not saying he's not making strides?

In order for somebody to look average, you have to actually be looking at them. Your opinion wouldn't be as scrutinized if you didn't sound as if you were watching another game, nevermind another player.

To quote James Walker from ESPN, "Switching Paul Kruger to full-time defensive end and adding bulk is already paying dividends. Kruger looks more powerful and explosive this summer. The second-round pick was drafted as a linebacker/defensive end hybrid and couldn't find a role on the team his rookie year. Now he's more productive focusing on one position."

Yet explosive = slow and powerful = no bullrush.
I meant from last season to this season not 3-4 days of practice. Be realistic.

Very simple... Has Kruger earned BEAST status yet? No. Will he earn BEAST status within the next couple years? You bet your sweet *** he will. close thread. we're all just repeating ourselves over and over again...

Well, let's see....Who deserves the playing time then?
A geriatric ward refugee who lost his starting job last year (Trevor Pryce)
A career long roster-filler who is at best a warm body to bring in to relieve our starters on occasion(Corey Redding)?
Or a very talented second year player who appears to have a high ceiling, and who we invested a second round pick in (Kruger)?

Doesn't seem to be a difficult decision to make...

lol kruger has a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG way to go to demand double teams. There are a select few people in this league that demand double teams. The guy can't even crack the ones, Some pro bowlers don't even demand double teams. Thats crazy talk. The guy is NOT a beast.. He is not even a effective player RIGHT now. Yes he has potential if he works hard but I WANT TO SEE RESULTS not make assumptions before he does anything. Comparing what ngata does to kruger? Dude thats ridiculous how do I even respond to that, Honestly.

Pretty sure nobody compared what the two do, just how Kruger saw some double teams last night...like Ngata sees every week.

Kruger wont see the most playing time of those 3 though. Pryce will be used on the inside in our sub packages, and most likely start out starting in our base as well and depending how he does Redding will be next.

No?
I wasn't highlighting Haloti's sacks, but rather his tackles. He pointed out that Kruger's night was a failure because he only had one tackle, when he was double teamed on more than one occasion, just as Ngata is on every single play. The point is that the number of tackles for any 3-4 DE or NT is irrelevant to how they actually played. The amount of attention each player garners is critical. And if Kruger did have a chance in with the ones, it would've been one on one match ups, where he probably would've been more successful. Especially considering he flustered McNabb out of the pocket on one of his only plays with the starters. He may not be ready to start, but it's another thing to completely degrade his potential.
I'm sorry I don't know the word to use.. Ok here I go again, It is stupid to bring up what ngata does stat wise and in the scheme because they are 2 completely different players. Ngata is a distruptive force without actually registering stats.

Generally when you are trying to win a championship you are going to play the players that give you the best chance of winning NOW, not play someone who may have a brighter future with the team. Now If we're 3-8 I see that but now from what we're trying to do.

You play the best player, now.

The role of a DE in a 3-4 is to take up double teams, and to at least push the pocket. Kruger did both in the Skins game the other night. He did what is desired from him. If he can take up O-linemen, then the LB's can run free. He wasn't doubled as often as Ngata, but he still was doubled. If he can be placed on the same line as Ngata, and Cody, I think he may be able to wreak havoc. With Ngata and Cody take up 2 blocks each. That leaves 1 or 2 for Kruger. Kruger can win a one on one battle, and if he ends up doubled, the LB's can get more pressure.

In response to "Andrew Glass", Ngata's and Kruger's roles in our scheme are very similar. They are both DE's in a 3-4 defense. Their jobs are similar. The difference is Ngata excels more in his role, and is better against the run. However, Kruger seems to be better in the pass rush than Ngata.

For that matter Grubbs too. In the Panther game it looked like Oher got beat twice but apparently he got beat one and Grubbs got beat the second time. Our left side is supposed to be the dominant side.
lol do you know how many teams would love 2 O linemen that got beat only 1x each in an entire game? all of them lol

This bit is from the Baltimore Sun about Monday's practice

KRUGER BECOMES A NIGHTMARE Defensive end Paul Kruger took four consecutive snaps during a 1-on-1 pass-rushing drill and beat left tackle Michael Oher, left guard Ben Grubbs and center Chris Chester. Afterward, he was greeted by cheers from his defensive teammates and defensive end Trevor Pryce patted him on the back.

This coupled with everything else I've heard about his camp and how good he looked against the Panthers really gets me excited. I was a huge Kruger fan coming out of college and I can't wait to see him put it together this year.

Here's the whole articles is you want to read it.

a beast who has done squat this season
Yeah, you'll find people more in love with his name than anything else.

Think its kinda weird, he hasn't shown much besides the fact he doesnt wanna do special teams and an interception against dixon.

Redding and Pryce will continue to keep him in street clothes.

Actually I can see him starting sunday to give one of those guys an extra bye week against the Browns.

Highly doubt it, we need to absolutely take it to the Browns and ride that momentum against the Steelers next weekend. The more I read about him not even dressing, the more disgusted I am that we took a kid(not his fault, I dont hate the person)who apparently is a 3 or 4 year project in the 2nd round. I dont fault Ozzie for the Clayton pick, and place only part blame on him for Boller, and dont blame him at all for Dan Cody, but the Kruger pick is starting to irritate me.

You do realize that was a preseason game I was referring to where they were only in for about 2 series right? I hope so or else you'd look really silly.
