Short Passing Game

6 posts in this topic

After noticing that our boy Joe was successful on some long throws (23 yarder to Mase, 30 yarder to Clayton), as well as the standard RB checkdowns, I got to wondering about the designed short routes. Seems like vs a solid pass rushing team like NYJ you want to be able to pull off these quick hitch timing plays. Often in blitz situations also. Can't remember us using a lot of those, but I know they're critical to guys like Brady/Manning, and they've been used against us with success.

So anyway, I may be rambling but I guess I'd like to see some solid timing routes designed to pick up quick yardage and give the D something to think about rather than pinning their ears back.

I would love to see short timing routes a la Bill Walsh's west coast offense of the glorious 49ers' days. It can be VERY effective, but any miscommunication or poor timing can lead to an easy pick six. It could definitely work against some of Ryan's zone blitzes. I just wouldn't be comfortable throwing it like that to Revis in man coverage.

Not too sure if Q will "manhandle" Revis but their off-the-ball confrontations should be fun to watch. ESPN likes to run these hilarious highlights of Revis shoving T.O. to the ground and pushing Chad Johnson around last season. I don't see that happening to Boldin.

Agreed, I don't think he's gone up against someone quite like Quan. That pushing around scenario just doesn't seem possible. Could be a brawl waiting to happen.
