Merged: 53 Man Roster Predictions

68 posts in this topic

I didn't see the date on here anywhere, when is the 1st cut and how many players do we get down to before the final cut to 53?

Two things:

I was looking at the transactions and a lot of teams are beginning to sign or cut, guess we won't be far behind.

Which kicker? Cundiff or Graham? I see a mixture on this thread, they seem pretty even. Do you think it will come down to the final day or will they decide before that? I don't know which one I would prefer they keep, they're pretty close.

And...the idea of only carrying two QB's so we can add depth somewhere else doesn't seem so bad either.

Good to see some folks have Harewood making the team. Seems like for a "developmental" guy he sure made big strides (no pun intended). Dude is huge and he protected well, albeit against a 2nd team pass rush. He's another guy I kind of fear putting on a practice squad for fear of losing him. Especially with Gaither's...ongoing issues.

he didn't just protect well, he down right dominated at times. I really like what i saw from him in the Skins game. I'm sure they are just about tried of our rookie tackles dominating them. That's two years in a row for the preseason now. First Oher now Harwood.

If he can develop in the next year or so, that could push Cousins down inside to RG. If for whatever reason we lose Yanda and Gaither, Cousins and Harewood could be a nasty right side.

active PUP: Reed, C. Williams

I could be wrong here, but why would C Williams be on PUP?

It is my understanding that if a player is placed on active PUP, then he does not count against the 53 man roster to start the season.
So C. Williams, while under suspension, could become a member of the roster once suspension is over.
[/quote]
Cary williams will not be on PUP. Any player placed on PUP to start the season is unable to play for the first 6 weeks of the season. Williams is only suspended for 2 games.

Williams will make the final roster going into the season, then will be treated like a suspended player who can't practiapate in any team activity. Someone will aviod the PS for the first to weeks to fill in for Williams and after the Bengals game will be sent to PS to make room for Williams.

Offense- QB - Flacco, Bulger, T.Smith
HB - Rice, McGahee, Parmele, Steele
FB - McClain
WR - Boldin, Mason, Stallworth, Clayton, Williams, Reed
TE - Heap, Pitta, Dickson
OT - Oher, Gaither, Moll, Cousins
OG - Grubbs, Chester, Yanda
C - Birk, Hale

Defense (listed in 3-4 position)
DE - Ngata, Redding, Pryce
NT - Gregg, Cody, Tavalou, McKinney
OLB - Suggs, Johnson, Kruger, Barnes
ILB - Lewis, Ellerbe, McClain, Gooden,
CB - Washington, Carr, Williams, Webb (PUP), Fisher, Miller (dropped for Webb)
S - Reed, Landry, Zbikowski, Hamlin

K - Graham
P - Koch
KS - Cox

That's my prediction, but If I had my way it'd look a little different.
I'd drop Steele for McLaughlin. I think there's more value to making McClain a viable running option along with providing insurance at the position than there is in another nifty little runner like Steele.
I'd also drop D. Williams in place for another D-Lineman. Possibly Divens or Arthur Jones.
I'd drop Gooden for Ayanbadejo. He's a better linebacker in coverage and provides so much more special teams. Pretty much the two things Gooden will make the roster for. The only things keeping Gooden in over B.A are health and youth.
I don't think we need 3 QBs with a line like ours when our backup is so vastly experienced and proven. It's not like the 'Suggs package' is a necessary or even effective part of the offense. It could mean that we don't have to drop Miller when Webb comes back and leave ourselves short on corners and it means Haruki can make the team for the first 6 weeks and after than we can make a more informed decision on Hamlin v Haruki. But I think right now Hamlin edges it.
I wanted to include KJ Gerrard because I really think there's something to this guy. But alas I couldn't find a space for him.
