to make room for CB undrafted FA Brad Jones..interesting move here..i wonder whose going to be the Long Snapper?
Rookie free agent Morgan Cox. He handled all of the long snaps Thursday night (or so I've read).

Wow this is a bold move waiving Katula. I know he struggled from injury last year. But before that he has been a very consistent cog.

Yea i just read this myself, i wasnt sure if its just to make room for Jones for now. I expect we will bring him back. Think its just to get another camp body DB in the mix. Jones plays safety and CB

This is unexpected. Katula was so reliable until last year. I hate to see him let go as a result of injury, but I'm sure he'll find work elsewhere. This should give Cox some confidence.

The fact that neither you nor I nor anyone else knew that tells us that Morgan Cox did a fabulous job. I wish Katula the best of luck, but he took a job for Joe Maese a couple of years ago. The nature of the the beast at LS.

Isn't Brad Jones a Safety?
He has the ability to play Safety and Cornerback, which is a plus for the Ravens. We look to have 5 quality Safeties, but can never have too much CB help.

As for Katula, thats a tough move, cuz he's one of those guys you don't hear much about but you know his value to the team.

I can't help but to think that this is injury related. If it was just a case of making room they could have released Cox instead. So either Cox has outperformed Katual thus far, or Matt has an injury problem.

Goodbye, and Thank You, Matt! An awesome performer. Definitely an injury-shortened stay here. I cant see any reason why he will not latch on somewhere else.

Long snappers tend to have short careers because of the ever-increasing vet minimums. Eventually they get priced out of the market and get replaced with much cheaper rookies.

The saddest part is that Matt was very active in the community and that will be missed.

While that is true, I think durability concerns arose after the several botched snaps he took last year due to his shoulder or hand, whatever injury it was.

The only concern I have about releasing Katula at this juncture is that there's no guarantee that Cox will pan out after only one preseason performance. Granted, he's been long-snapping all summer long for the team, but one game does not make a season or a career. It would've been more prudent to hang onto both guys until final cuts, unless Katula was that visibly hampered by his injury from last season that there was not much of a chance he'd improve.

Apparently Koch is very upset with this move. Him and Matt were best friends on the team.

They had a special connection.
