Battle Of Beltway

98 posts in this topic

I'm excited to see how our team matches up with the Redskins. The skins pass defense is pretty good, and McNabb will be a challenge for our pass d. We will see how we hold up against a proven veteran qb. The Skins are going to be good this year. I've been saying it all year. But we will really get to see how good our team is depending how we play this game.

Im hoping we smash the skins because im so sick of the smack talk from their fans. I had one fan tell me that larry johnson was going to run over ray lewis. Oh yea and another fan said that they would hang up 30 points atleast on us because are secondary is weak.

Saturday cant get here soon enough.
You have to just ignore Redskins fans. Just the fact that they have to use Larry Johnson to talk smack is pretty hilarious.

It's just a pre-season game. Does 28-10 sound familiar to those fans?

My dad was a huge Colts fan so the Redskins were my NFC team to annoy him, I remember when I was in school staying up to watch a MNF game that was a thriller between the Colts and Redskins, and it ended around 1am promising I would get up for school. I used to take a ton of ribbing around here even after the Colts were gone for wearing my Redskins gear.
The Steelers and the Redskins used to scrimmage and play pre-season games every year for a while and they feel about Steeler fans pretty much the same way we do.
A lot of Colt fans refused to become Redskin fans because Jack Kent Cooke, the previous owner, used the argument that the Redskins were 45 mins away to prevent Baltimore from getting an expansion team.
Sounds to me that this Battle of the Beltway is one which never fails to live up to expectations.

From what I recall reading elsewhere, at one point during the fifties, there was a Baltimore deejay who, after announcing a Redskins game score, put on a record of pure laughter, and it played for such a length of time. The Redskins lost the game, hence the laughter.

I had no idea that Mr. Jack Kent Cooke was so against another team in Baltimore after the Colts left, until reading your post, my friend. This makes me go more for a Baltimore team, just on general principle.

Ah, well, I shall look forward to this rivalry again, and hope for Baltimore to win.

i gave up on talking logic and reason because skins fans only understand that the start of the season means that its their only chance to claim they are superbowl contenders.

We basically own the beltway. There is a doubt if the skins are going to make the playoffs. With the Ravens along with a much tougher division we are confident our team will be one of the 6 at the end of the season.

This is the operative word here!

Please, don't get into a grammar/English debate with me. You will lose. You have a problem with putting together concise, complete thoughts. We are all constantly confused by you.
This insatiable desire to correct people and prove your "grammatical superiority" says much more about you than the people you're so apt to correct. Good lord.

Anyway, I used to dislike 'Skins fans because of their obnoxious whining about Ravens fans all being bandwagoners... Now I just look at them like a kid brother. You WANT him to do well so bad but you know he's going to screw up--and generally does.

This wasn't directed to you, big guy! Nicely worded post though. :)

Sorry that it bugs me (and quite a few others) when someone takes the time to post something, yet the attempt at a thought is not conveyed correctly, nor does the sentence even make sense.

Carry on everyone...

Eh, I think they have a goochance. Haynesworth is a beast when he trys and Adam Carriker is a monster when he isn't injured.

I've always liked McNabb, and they have solid WR corps as well as a solid draft that helped beef up their O-Line.

Also, they have a pretty strong pass rush and potentially great corners (DeAngelo Hallbe great if he gets his s*** together and Rodgers has potential). Assuming one of their 3 old veteran RB's (my guess is portis) does at least decent (as in 4.0 YPC or more), they can be a solid 9-7 team, maybe even 10-6 if the ball bounces the right way for them.

I wouldn't say their WR's are solid, maybe one step below that. I just don't see them making it, not in their division.
If they can go 8-8, that would be good for them, but I would also doubt that. They have a pretty tough schedule.

I JUST realized this thread is entitled "Battle of Beltway". How does that settle with you, 1/28/01 :P?

OT: If the Skins were in any other division, I would give them a better chance at the playoffs. The NFC East isn't far from a complete tossup (did you hear Gruden pick the Giants to win the division last night?). Without a doubt the best division across the board in football right now. The AFC North would be, too if it wasn't for the Browns.

I could care less about the Battle of the Beltway. I work near DC and the point seems to be moot. And it's preseason. So long as there aren't any injuries, I'm happy.

But I did save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching from Geico.

Even though the way I wrote the thread topic is wrong it looks better with the 1 less syllable.
This is basically who they have that could be considered a threat. They are good enough to win a couple games this season, but are they good enough to make the playoffs nope.

Chris Cooley
Albert Hanesworth
Donovan McNabb
London Fletcher
Santana Moss
Brian Orakpo
Willie Parker
Clinton Portis
Trent Williams
LaRon Landry
and DeAngelo Hall
I really don't think anybody else would be much of a threat...

Not sure how you know whether they can make the play-offs or not considering no one has played a game yet.

had a response for this post all lined up...and you killed me with the "switch to Geico" line

agree with you though; Redskins 42 points Ravens 0 injuries and they can have the "preseason" Beltway title.

We will be going down the I-95 beltway for game 1 against Coach Ryan and the jets.
This is what we have to deal with:
Darelle Revis
Bart Scott
Shone Green
LT
Jason Taylor
Santonio Holmes
Braylon Edwards
Antonio Cromartie
Kyle Wilson
Jim Leonhard
Kris Jenkins
and Laveraneus Coles
I think it will be a battle down to the last kick with Graham we got this all day baby all day...
If we were going down the I-95 beltway we'd be playing the Dolphins, Panthers or Redskins.

Harris could be an honorable mention. I'd also include some of their beast O-Lineman.

Could be an Honorable mention? I can understand Ravenmore missing Harris. Harris is one of the most underrated linebackers in the NFL. Behind Revis he should be the most feared guy on the Jets D.

Harris in 2009 had 127 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 3 Pdef, 2 INTs, 2 Forced Fumbles

Match that against the overrated Scott stats:
92 tackles, 1 sack, 1 Pdef, 0 Ints, 0 FF.

Sorry about going off-topic.

That is all I'm asking!

Sure you would. But you said "went up" here, before you said "go down".

Eh, I was trying to be nice about it. I guess I should've said if you're going to put Scott on there to include Harris because he's better.
