Madden 11 Pass Defense

40 posts in this topic

so i picked up my copy on the release date, and ive been playin trying everything. I cant seem to stop a pass for the damn life of me in this madden. in madden 10 i averaging o joke 3-4 interceptions a game, not a single one so far. I cant even swat down a pass and theres times my CB or safety jumps a route or is in the circle before WR is even there and drops a wide open pressure free pick... any idea on what to do?

also in madden 10 theres an option to "high light" a WR to give him extra attention is there anyway to do this with out dropping coverage on another WR in madden 10?

and my rocket catch is broken... doesnt seem to be nearly as responsive.

Seriously... you're upset because a glitch (Rocket Catch) isn't working correct? Bravo for Madden if they did start addressing that.

Madden 11 is a completely different feel that Madden 10. That's why I love it.

In Madden 10 I was terrible although I'm ussually good at it. It's not that the Pass D is messed up but because the feel of it is different that could be your problem.

This is assuming there is no difference between the demo and the game because i don't have my copy yet.

As for Rocket Catch, come on man this is one of the reasons I stopped playing Madden last year. Besides the terrible feel (for me) all the nano blitzing and rocket catching is one thing that infuriated me about the game.

You should google it if you want to do it THAT bad... im sure somebody has thought of something.

As for the passing D, this game really comes down to pressuring the QB. I find it easier this year. But it is realistic. Get pressure on the QB and force bad throws.

all i said about rocket catch is that it isnt as responsive. thats not what upsets me.

what upsets me is not matter what teams D im playing with, what plays, what coverages etc my guys NEVER stop a pass. Im lucky if they swat it once out of 7 passes. They drop WIDE OPEN interceptions. no matter who the WR is, my CBS cant stop or pick it.

i also cant seems to get pressure on the QB for the life of me. I blitz more than there r blockers, try safety and CB blitz, everything,... crash the line etc and no result.

I used the Steelers' *shudder* Defensive Playbook as the Chiefs and racked up 5 sacks, 3 passes defended and 3 picks against the Chargers. Blitzing 5+ guys every down seemed to work.

they do allow you to highlight a reciever you just have to change the game from "gameflow" to conventional and they usually give u this option before you play

Or you can choose hot route, then Right stick down for man coverage, then select the player from the cooresponding button.

I find that man coverage works best on rookie and pro difficulty levels, while zone coverage works best on all-pro and all-madden. If im using a zone coverage play, i use the strategy pad and select "press coverage" to get the corners up on the line of scrimmage. Also I try to blitz with at least one linebacker just to get the quarterback a little hurried.

How is you pass rush? Reason Im asking is this. I play all pro, play as DE (Cory Reading) all game on D and get good pressure most of the game, and I can stop the pass. If you get really good at the pass rush and get to the QB 7 times out of 10, you'll hamper their passing attack. Pressure is everything.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed that Paul Kruger is pretty beastly in this game?

Its the opposite for me. I found for me on all pro, that I play better in man coverage than zone. Players seem to destroy me in zone coverage most of the time. While in man coverage I get alot more pass deflections and ints.

I might add too that maybe its your CB lineup? I have Wilson and Foxworth on the outside with Webb playing nickle/3rd stringer, and Carr as my 4th stringer.

I play primarily man defense. Guys get way too open when I'm playing zone. Although I will mix things up with zone blitzes from time to time.

In last year's Madden, I ran Cover 1 a lot out of the Nickel package and Ray Lewis would always lead the league in interceptions.

It kind of depends on who you are playing. Sometimes I get picked apart in man and sometimes I get picked apart in zone. You have to see what works during the game.

I've actually used zone blitzes I rarely ever use just to keep mixing it up and going to man against certain teams/QB's.

I think it also depends who your corners are and what WRs your going against. I have small fast corners and my big physical corner is a rookie(79 overall) so he still gets beat at times. Guys like Brady and Manning you have to zone blitz against and hope you can get a clean shot at them.

I LOVE going up against them. I don't always win, but it sure is fun. I find I have more success when I am ready to keep up with the audibles. Even if it's as simple as flipping the play when they put a man in motion.

I get amped the most for Pats and Steelers games on Madden. I played the Steelers in my franchise with all those NCAA drafted guys and eeked out a 28-24 win(I play 10 min quarters on All Madden too so the game was serious lol) but the game was so intense and never more than a 7 point game, the next week was against the Chiefs and just a straight emotional let down and got spanked like 45-28 lol.

I can't do straight up all madden. It's too obvious that your runners are running in quicksand so the defender can catch them and for that reason I struggle running. I play a modified version of all madden (more difficult in some areas, less in others) and I play 7 minute qtrs.

I played a close one (shoot out) with the Browns (30th year) in week 4. Barely made it by as their RB ran all over me. So in the rematch I focused entirely on him and I blitzed about 95% of the time (run or pass) and I kicked the crap out of them.

Ya its blatantly obvious that All Madden is set to make it almost impossible. One thing I found that helped my team out (I dont know if its actually true or not) but on the coaching strategy section I switched my OGs to focus solely on run blocking and its seemed to help I'm rushing between the 60s and the low 100s when I actually focus on it(right now im up to 138 on the Browns). And I switched my DEs to focus solely on run stopping, and its helped me slow down teams HBs with the ridiculous amount of broken tackles there are in All Madden(Colt McCoy stiff armed Kindle and broke off a sack in the endzone, then on another play McCoy shook off Ngata from behind...Ngata is like 350 and McCoy is like 210 lol).

Hmmm. Maybe I'll give it another shot in my next Franchise. I only have a few games left in year 30. Thanks for sharing.

Ya no problem, it might even be worth a shot to re-configure all the positions to how you want them to be in your own schemes.

I think I may have my guards on run only. Tackles are in the middle as is center.

Defense:
DE's -middle
DT's - Run stop
ILB's - Run
OLB's - run/pass
CB - coverage
FS - middle
SS - hard hittin.

I also have subs on up around 85 for most defensive positions as I tend to keep good, high skilled depth there. Same with RB.

Maybe I should change my Tackles to run block as I can usually handle the pass rush. I usually only get sacked on play action.

Man how useless is PA in this game. I like how you have your positions set up. I have my entire Dline set to focus on run stopping so maybe when I goto the nickel with Suggs/Kindle down thats why I cant get any damn pressure lol. Only differences we'd have is at the S position because of Ed/Troys different skill sets. And at ILB because I play with Lewis on every down so I either stop the run myself or the HB gets gang tackled after I hit the HB and he shakes me off lol.

PS the strafing button is beyond critical at All Madden.

Troy was long gone when I set these up like this. For Troy I'd have it in coverage.

Strafing on or off?

I actually changed my D-Line to all run stop like you said. I seldom struggle against the pass as I can always get pressure. But run is a different story. I know, not very Steeler-like, but it's due to my slider settings and IMO the best way to keep it realistically competitive.
