Runnin Raven

Cody - PS Game 1

43 posts in this topic

Dude was pushing the pocket, wrapping up ballcarriers, playing with heart. He's a different man when the pads are on. Huge but nimble. A couple plays stood out:
1) he stiff-armed the center with his left and took down the runner with his right.
2) looked like he got pushed out of the play (great penetration) but stuck out that left arm and basically clotheslined the RB (no penalty)
3) another play he had solid penetration, the RB got past him on his left but he almost chased him down before the next level. That was an "effort" play that got me about as jacked as a sack would.

I think we have a young man with a great, great future in this league. Thankfully Ray will be there to guide him early.

I was a Cody hater before the draft. But I like what I saw from him last night. He had that Raven's "Motor". If he stays conditioned, gets a little stronger, he will be a big beast for us.

I'm officially on the Cody Bandwagon. I think he can be something special.

I can't believe how athletic he is for being as big as he is. Its unbelievable. Like Ngata is huge, but thick and fast. Cody is tubby but fast and strong. And plays with a lot of heart. Mt. Crushmore is going to be a terrifying thing to come up against. Going to give "the Goose" and Sam Adams a run for their money for best Ravens D linemen of all time

Edit: Ok maybe I'm getting a little carried away with best D linemen of all time. Its too early for that. But I think they could be really good.

I remember the play being Cody held off the center with his left arm and corralled DeAngelo Williams with his right. Regardless, that was a Pro Bowl center he dominated and it was very impressive.

With some conditioning and a year or two in the weight room, he could be special.

Yeah I'm sure you're right...chalk it up to a weak memory :D . That was a Pro Bowl caliber play. My jaw kind of hung open.

Glad to hear you're on the bandwagon my friend! I live in Alabama and have been a die hard Alabama fan my whole life.. And when they drafted Terrance Cody I went nuts because my favorite NFL player was Ray Lewis and I knew that by getting Cody it would allow Ray at least a couple more years in the NFL. Terrance Cody was a 3 star prospect coming out of JUCO to Bama and not a lot of people was expecting a whole lot but I had been keeping with up him and I knew he was a player (just out of shape). He ended up being an All-American at Alabama for 2 straight years and instantly became a fan favorite. Alot of people doubted him when the Ravens drafted him but I knew he would show out!

I'm really impressed with Cody also. Especially the fact that his endurance was tested with the numerous amount of reps and still made a lot of plays.

Ugh. ESPN is only talking about Jimmy Clausen. All the fingers were pointed at Cody being a bust because of weight and conditioning. He was an absolute monster and dominated to whole game on defense.

I know, I was waiting for them to say something good about the Ravens the whole time and all they did was talk about Clausen..

Clausen looked like garbage out there. Going from a being a QB at Notre Dame to playing NFL football against one of the best defenses will make that happen. Welcome to the NFL Clausen!

Well considering that we are such a good d and he is a rookie he didn't do that bad. If you recall Flacco's first preseason game, his first snap he fumbled the ball and then went 0-3 I believe, before we took him out. I'd say Flacco has improved just a little from that :P.

I remember seeing a pic of Cody "sprinting" and you could actually see a really big, strong-looking bicep and shoulder muscle. He's got "loose fat" that I think makes him look a lot worse than he really is. He's not "weak fat" he's just "loose fat." And very, very strong.

personaly he reminded me of Sapp in the middle for the bucs but for some reason when I saw him with in 4 plays of being in there breaking 3 men at once , that showed me harbs is on the right path with him , I think pitt and cleveland will be a bit scared of him if we went 46

I really like Cody. Like Harbs said he has some things to work on but the dude can play and he plays with [s]gusto[/s] er....big, strong, determined!

Did you see him chasing those guys and stopping them with one arm? LOVE IT! He can only improve from here and I'm looking forward to it. Can't wait to see him play next week.

The dude blocked a guard with his left arm and swatted down a RB with
his right arm. He reminds me a lot of Siragusa and the way he used to
take 2 guys on, one in each arm...

With a little more
conditioning (which will come as the season progresses) Cody could be an
absolute monster. Really like what I saw out of him AND Paul Kruger
looked fantastic as a pass rusher. That guy better get plenty of snaps
this season...

*chuckle* Mt. Cody was swatting them down. Can't wait to see more of him.

Kruger was looking good!

Like Ngata, Cody has that freakish strength that allows him to look like he's just toying with offensive linemen. Either one of them can throw a guy away from them with one arm without even looking. It reminds me of cartoons where the big guy holds the little guy by the head with one arm while the little guy flails away underneath without being able to reach him.

Yes Cody the griz was definitely swatting them down like a huge grizzly bear out there.:34853_brickwall: This was the runningbacks as the reached the line of scrimmage. LOL

The announcers kept on commenting about Cody playing with Ngata and Gregg zooming in on Ngata. You can tell Ngata was ready to get into this preseason game.

I was surprised how long they kept Cody on the field. The best part was he made plays even after being out there for two quarters. I knew we'd get this guy in shape. I just hope he can dominate against first teams as much as he did against second and third teams out there. A motivated Cody with Ngata's help is going to be really special.

So happy for Cody and looking forward to Ravens games!

Just a little tidbit about Cody. Cody was the only Alabama player who had nerve enough to sit next to Coach Saban on bus trips. He sat with him nearly every time. From the picture, you can see how comfortable Cody was with his coach. Saban looks like a midget here. The picture was taken just after Alabama won the SEC game against Florida.

I bet Coach Saban looked that uncomfortable in the bus seat next to Cody, too! :deadxr1:

Was it just me or did anyone else have the same type of feeling about Cody during his first preseason game as, Oher last year. When Cody held the center at bay with one arm and tackled the RB with the other arm, I immediately thought back to Oher pile driving the guy from the Redskins last preseason.

Cody also played on Special Teams as well Thursday night. Which speaks even more to his stamina. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams, i don't think we have to worry about Cody staying on the field much.

Redding appears to have already taking the starting DE position from Pryce, and if Cody continues to play well and improve, i can definitely see him taking the majority of the snaps from Gregg by week 3.

I definitely got that feeling. I know it's early, but I got that feeling when his name was called on draft day just because the possibilities by themselves are mind boggling. I'm looking forward to him and Dickson this season more than anyone else on our team...I'm that pumped about them.

Come on! How could you be a Cody 'hater' ??? before now. He did nothing but great things at Bama. Class act, never caused any trouble at Alabama. Good grades, great character and hell of a work ethic. Iam a Bama fan but a huge Cody fan . And watch Oaklands Rolando McClain, another awesome product from the Tide.

GO RAVENS -- SUPERBOWL BOUND
