He had 1 good catch thus for in the 1st game of the preseason.
I think he will redeem him of a season of horrible drop balls. This to me just looks like a start to something great and an asset to the ravens. I just want to know if we can rely on this guy on a 4 wide receiver set 3 fully covered?

First of all, he is above Stallworth on the depth cart because he is better then Stallworth. Second of all he had two catches. One of 30 yards and a touchdown, and one for 18 yards. Does this mean he is now amazing? No. But it shows he could have success as a 3rd, or a slot, receiver.

So, do you hate him or love him? You're going in both directions here. Not to mention you note a year of dropped balls. You mean the one, correct?

He dropped one ball. Even the great Jerry Rice dropped at least one or two balls in a season.

I remember Clayton dropping a ball that was right between his numbers against the Chargers but this belief that he's a drop-happy WR isn't rooted in reality.

I don't like Clayton as a #2 receiver but I don't mind him as a #3. I thought he played good today, with some intensity, especially since he's vying for a spot on the team.

I don't remember seeing him do it today, but I thought he was working as a kick returner during some practices.

If you want to call out Clayton, call out his consistency during spans of games, not drop passes. I thought he had a a good game today. Would love to see him span that out over all 4 preseason games.

I agree. I think Clayton should be in the slot most of the time. He's a mismatch for alot of 3rd CB's and just about any LB. He did return a punt (or was it a kick?) but he looked scared to death. Prince Miller looked pretty darn good as a returner. Good balance.

I remember it being a punt. He ran for about five to eight yards in the middle before being brought down I think.

That's the return spark we've been missing. Somebody that makes guys miss. It really got the fans riled up and out of the seats.

He more or less dove to avoid the contact. Clearly he hasn't returned in awhile and wants to stay healthy as a WR to ensure he makes the 53.

I agree. His shiftiness, balance, acceleration, vision all looked pretty good to me! Got me excited! ;)

Well if he really wants to make the 53 man roster he will should want to provide a spark in punt returns. Any person that can take on multiple duties can find a spot on this team.

Aside from the New England mood killer, when exactly did the Season of horrible drops begin for him? Because I definitely didn't see a problem with his hands when he was hauling in the game winner against the Chiefs or making an amazing catch against the Vikings. If you want to argue about his lack of separation as a starting WR, you're more than welcome to. But from what I remember, his hands were pretty reliable.

Clayton vs second string CB's = Good when he's consistent, average overall.

Clayton vs third/fourth string CB's= Great

Seriously, he might be one of the best 3rd string WR's out there. Which will make Stallworth even better as well if he's going against those 4th stringers.

Personally I think stallworth is faster..stronger..and has better hands than Clayton..but Clayton has proved he can make nice grabs..I think we could even rotate them

Mark Clayton is a luxury to have as a 3rd or 4th wr. He makes our wr unit very flexible and deep. He will definitely be a big help this year and an asset to the team.

Alright alright. I'll admit I drank a lot of Haterade on Clayton. Great game, hope it continues. If he can consistently beat people as the number 3 or 4 guy, that will do a lot for our team.

I guess we can just let the season play out. For my part, if both Stallworth and Clayton are on the team and healthy, I expect Stallworth will make more of an impact.

In reality I don't know how I got a -7 on this post. I just wanted to see how this trend if/would it continue over the course of the next couple preseason games. Giving him and us another option to rely on for the deep pass yardage.

I remember one on the chest against the Pats

but I can't hold that against him seeing as he kept us alive on that final drive multiple times

If you're gonna hate on a dropped ball or 2... what about Derrick Mason's against the steelers

**** happens...

this season will be interesting w/ Clayton going against the 3's and 4's

Most teams don't have answers for every probowler or very good players on other teams.
In other words look for guys like an anxious Todd Heap or a leaping Mark Clayton to be wide open.

I'm a fan of proving arguments verbally, so I wasn't part of the group. I do agree that it's hard to judge a player's improvement by 1 game, but it's definitely a noteworthy start.

So where are the people who said he won't even make the final roster?
[/quote]

I still think McG and Clayton were being played heavily in the first few drives to turn them in to trade bait.
