Troy Smith Does Not Look Like He Belongs In The NFL

171 posts in this topic

Troy Smith looked terrible. How many times was he sacked?
You can't blame the 2nd or 3rd O line for Troy not stepping up and making a play.
He ran for one easy TD, other than that, I think we know why he isn't a starter in the NFL.
And while this is the Ravens first preseason game this season, it is not Troy's first.

Let's put this issue to rest.

I may not be a believer in Troy either, but let's not forget the fact that he still has three more preseason games to try and turn it around.

Look at the o line he was playing behind, Let him get bulgers reps with that line and those wideouts he'll do better. It's really not all his fault.

I didn't want to start an entire topic just for the sole purpose of "bashing" someone, but I will chime in and say that he did not look good. I really do not like his throwing motion and his on field decisions. Glad we have Flacco and Bulger!

You may have just stirred up the inevitable hornets nest of Troy Smith fans with this one. lol.

I wouldn't say that he doesn't belong in the NFL, but I WILL say that he has never looked like anything more than a backup QB.

I was hoping that he would play well to increase any trade value he might have had. But he looked bad, the offensive line wasn't helping either.

He better be glad we still want him around. After tonight, I'm sure no other team thinks he's fit to be the waterboy, much less ANY kind of string quarterback.

At least he completed a pass to Justin Hartper. That's a good thing, right?

Yes, you are correct

I don't think anybody should pass judgment on him after just one preseason game. It is normal for players to come out flat in the first game. Bulger didn't look good either, but he is a proven QB.

Wow i knew someone would talk out the side of their neck about Troy Smith and that horrible line he was playing behind. He will be the number two Qb on this team get used to him. Mark Bulger looked horrible too. The play calling for the guy with the personnel that was in the game was bad as well. Some of you guys should stop starting Topics because it is obvious you are just haters. Mark bulger with all that experience that half of yall were bragging about looked like a rookie. Check down throws never impress anyone. Where are my negative rep points.....lmao

Is this a joke?

Just look at each of their throwing motions and releases. T Smith is WAY behind Bulger.

Are you ******* serious? He was playing with absolute SCRUBS.

Were you impressed by Bulger? For just... throwing the ball out of bounds as soon as he snapped the ball? Or how he threw the complete opposite direction of where his receiver was going?

Not to mention, they didn't even put Troy in the game until it started to pour.

Yeah, they REALLY wanted him to succeed tonight. You're a clown. Just shut the hell up.

You can't just blame the O line for Troy not stepping up in the pocket and completing a pass.

He completed two passes. You make no sense.

Well has Troy been giving Joe as many pointers and as much advice as Bulger has? When I last checked, that's the main reason why we brought him in. HE can make Joe better, Troy can't. Besides, at least Bulger completed some passes downfield.

Someone PLEASE explain to me how the offensive line can be blamed for FLACCO'S misreads and problems...

But we can't blame the o-line for Troy Smith not getting any time to throw at all?

If you don't like Ohio State... that's fine. But please, stop trying to make excuses for Flacco, but then not let Troy Smith have the same luxury.

If you honestly think Bulger showed he was a better back-up than Troy tonight... I can't WAIT to start laughing at you all in the middle of the season if the Ravens need to go to their back-up QB.

Troy is the back up QB here, 2nd string, 3rd string, whatever. But he's a back up and that's it. I really don't care what he does anymore unless the two guys infront of him go down. Otherwise, he has no chance in hell of being the starter here so i wish the whole thing could get dropped

Whose blamed the o-line for whatever issues Joe had tonight(which were pretty few by the way)?

Bulger went down-field to complete passes, Troy didn't. I'd say the superior QB was pretty obvious.

Flacco doesn't need excuses - 8 for 12 for 120 and a TD speaks for itself. As for Smith/Bulger, just based on throwing motion and experience I would MUCH rather have Bulger in if the unthinkable happens at any time this year...no question, wouldn't hesitate 100%

When did Joe make any misreads, and who here was blaming the Oline for them?

Honestly, are you a RAVENS fan? or just a troy smith fan?

He may not be starter material, but to call him a scrub is a bit harsh. I think he is a capable back up.

Maybe you should shut the hell up because Troy has had plenty of preseason games where he got the same reps Bulger got this time around. There's a reason he's just a third string QB. His performance in this game was irrelevant because we already know he'll never be starter material in the NFL. I have know idea why you're defending his play. And actually I'm sure the coaches DID want Troy to succeed. He might have been playing with scrubs but he was also playing AGAINST scrubs so yes we are "****** serious" when we criticize him.

Bulger wasn't very impressive either but it's too early to judge him considering he's only played in this system for a little while and isn't familiar with his receivers. Maybe he'll be a bust, maybe he won't.

Troy is a peice of garbage. The guy is absolutely useless and an embarrassment. How that scrub actually has fans is really unbelievable. The guy couldn't cut it in the Arena League.
[/quote]

Well... I don't know how I feel about Smith or Bulger at this point.. I guess we will see. But at this point you are pretty much coming out and saying that Gruden and those guys are idiots cause all 3 felt like that Smith would be the back up for Flacco. I don't think he played a good game and neither did Bulger. So I am not taking sides.. Just saying... All 3 commentators said Smith would be the number 2. If he was THAT terrible tonight I don't think they would have said that. I think Bulger should be the number 2 but I don't know. We will see I guess.

OK.....

So hypothetically, let's say Flacco gets injured at some point this season and Bulger replaces him as opposed to Troy.

Which would you PREFER:

A. Bulger plays horrible and we start losing so you can be right OR

B. Bulger plays good and we start winning, making you wrong?

I wouldn't be surprised if your answer was A.
