8/12 , 120 Yards, 1 TD, 127.1 Passer Rating. Thats for the entire 1st quarter and some of the 2nd.

Starting out with a great long pass to Derrick Mason. Then hitting Clayton several other times down the Middle

On the Long TD drive, he hit Boldin for a 12 Yard First Down, and tossed up a Long TD pass to Clayton on the back corner of the Endzone.

Very solid performance, and he looked very comfortable back there.

I was very impressed by Flacco. Watching Troy try to scurry around like a lost kid against second-stringers really makes you recognize the difference between these guys.

He looked good on the screen passes but I think everyone knew that bomb was coming, and he sure did put it in the right spot for Clayton to make a great catch.

there is no one blacking for him on the right side of the o line. if he could stand back there it would be a different story and i would agree with you.

I doesn't matter. There is really no comparison between the two. not even close. I'm sure Troy is a nice guy, and a good teammate but he's not in Joe's league.

I liked what I saw, Joe has that zip back on his passes and they aren't sailing high anymore like they were when he was hurt. All in all, I'd say so far so good.

Joe's windup looks quicker and smoother. With his arm strength, we should see a lot of completed slants, crossing and comebacks to Q this year.

Indeed! He hit Clayton for 18 yards on a short route down the middle...tight spiral right on the
money. What impressed me the most was the comfort level. Dare I say it? He looked like he was havin'
a lot of fun.

I liked how his bomb to Clayton didn't feel like it was a lob. Sometimes on the deep ball last year I felt he just threw it sky high and hoped for his guy to come down with it. It was a great throw, right where it needed to be.

I still would like to see how his chemistry develops between Boldin, Stallworth, Flacco. There is still a long way to go. I understand that we didn't want to give a lot of our play book away. But Boldin and Stallworth have to be Flacco's favorite targets.

Overall on a scale of one to ten I'd give flacco about a 8.75 if I'm allowed to do that.

I will say i didn't like seeing him sacked so much... Not sure if the penetration was on cousins side but i would feel a bit "safer" if we had gaither in

The deep ball to Clayton was a thing of beauty. I like how he took what the D gave him. 2 long drives - excellent. Its OK to check down (Manning/Brady do it all the time), and then kill them with a well-timed deep ball. I would argue that Joe has a better deep ball than either of the 2 guys I just mentioned.

Yes Joe was the best QB out there last night as he should have been. i thought there was times he looked slow and sloppy, don't hate me that's just how i saw it. Was I happy for the clayton TD Hell ya. Was I happy to see again so many check downs?? Nope!! This is something I'm so tired of checking down, Joe needs to improve in getting the ball out faster ( problem last year )read the field faster, better ( problem last year) Reading defences better these are 3 problems that plaged him last yr and as of 1 preseason game these are still his problems. Will he improve??against good teams?? i can only hope so. Joe did well but joe has a long way to go before all this elite qb stuff.

Good points. I like this post a lot. John Clayton from Espn is so annoying in my mind, because of how he considers like 10 qbs in the NFL elite. So stupid of a point, but thats a different topic.

He looked a lot faster in his decisions than he did last year. You could tell he went out there with confidence in his play ability and his decision making. I absolutely loved it. But your right, he still needs to make decisions a bit faster, but he is close. And the more comfortable he gets with Boldin and Stallworth, the better he will be.

Oher was the one getting beat. I'm just going to chalk up to it being the first pre-season game and certain protection schemes still need to worked on,

The reason why I'm not so concerned about the checkdowns is that it was basically the same exact play run four times in a row. That tells me a) we were trying to showcase McGahee (not confirmable) and B) Carolina just wasn't getting it and so we killed them the same way over and over (seems likely). If they were scattered throughout the game then I'd be a bit more concerned.

I think the screen flurry was intentional. I myself was starting to get annoyed by the checkdown-after-checkdown until I relized that Joe seemed to be doing it on purpose. The Panthers crowded the box after the fourth screen, and Joe nuked them for it by tossing that 30yd TD to Clayton (great catch btw).

Joe was trying to bait the Panthers into stacking the box, and it worked.
