Why Do People Keep Saying That The Pats Cheating Is Not A Big Deal?

21 posts in this topic

The fact of the matter is they cheated and they got caught. I am so sick of people defending them.

A. No, it isnt illegal to steal signals from the sideline with the naked eye. The difference between the naked eye and a video camera besides the obvious is even if you are capable of picking up another teams signals with the naked eye you have to have a GREAT memory to gain any advantage from it. If you steal signals with a video camera you have a hard copy of them to use for anytime in the future.

B. Yes, other teams video tape in an effort to steal signals BUT it is not illegal to video tape from some other sections of the stadium and it is illegal to do it from the sideline. When you video tape from else where in the stadium even with the best camera money can buy your vision of the signals are not going to be as good as standing right across from them on the opposite sideline even with a crappy camera because you are farther away and on a different angle. You also have all kinds of interference such as other people in the stands and people walking around on the sideline.

This isnt some silly little incident that deserves a slap on the wrist and it is not impossible to gain a substantial advatage over other teams by breaking this rule.

I say take the Championships away and give them to the NFC team!

There might be a few that actually belong to an AFC team. Like the Raiders, who were on losing end on the stupid tuck rule.

I'm definitely not one to defend the Pats, but I see it how others could probably defend them.

Alot of people see it like all teams cheat, for example:

*Teams have people who read lips of the playcallers.

*Of course the video cameras

*People scanning into their headsets to find out whats being called. I'm sure there are some scanning devices that could easily do that. If people can scan in Nascars headsets, I'm sure it can be the same with football.

Even teams know they are being watched at all times. Every team tries to take advantage of it regardless what they do. Just the fact is the Pats got caught.

There are ways around it though. Teams can change signals every week. Even Kurt Warner said himself, that changing Signals isn't even that hard to do every week. Some teams have two coaches doing the signals(one being a fraud and the other being the right call). Alot of coaches cover their mouth with the playbook so people can't read their lips.

Patriots got caught, and I hope that the tapes from the Rams walk-through are true. ByeBye Bill Belichick!

I don't know if its just me but the only people who are trying to downplay it are the Patriots, their fans and Goodell. I just hope Matt Walsh turns in the orignal video to Goodell and a copy for the media afer Goodell destroys it. :)

i agree it was a good job they never won the superbowl it would have sent out a bad message. they did not win and cheats never prosper

I WAS gonna stay out of it, but the more this is drawn-out, the more I'm getting sick to my stomach about it all.

Honestly...I'm just afraid that this will uncover even darker secrets about every team (our Ravens included), and that this will put an even bigger shadow over the league.

I'm scared that this will be like the steroid scandal in baseball, and that the NFL may never fully be able to recover if the cheating is as widespread and substantial as I'm afraid it may be.

I don't know if the major networks/websites are distracted by Clemens or the NBA All-Star game (hah) or what, but this doesn't seem to be getting much coverage considering its implications. Given the weight of it all, I hope it turns out to not be as bad as it seems...but Goodell has done little to help the situation.

I doubt it will get that big because as I mentioned its not illegal to steal signals at all but it is illegal to have camera's on your sideline to steal signals. I am sure the Ravens stole signals at some point as well but as long as they didnt violate any NFL rules prohibiting it in certain areas at certain times, we shouldnt have anything to worry about.

PSSF, whoever says that is a MORON. IT IS A HUGE DEAL and needs to be taken more SERIOUSLY by the NFL!!. POSSIBLY suspending BILL BELICHICK FOR the first FOUR GAMES or so and let their Assistant Head Coach take over for those 4 games or so.

If Matt Walsh has the evidence, Bill Belichick is suspended FOR A YEAR.

ya Bellicheck should have been punished more severly. And i am certain that every team in the league has violated some league rule to gain a compettitive edge. But can you blame them, you do whatever it takes to win.

well he wont be as cocky this season. ;) that smug smile will be wiped off his face when his team goes 12-4 or 11-5. he fears Romo, he knows what my QB can do and its scares the bleep outta him. when u guys played the Pats, i was on the edge of my seat the whole game.
