Is Tavares Gooden On The Bubble?

48 posts in this topic

I thought Scott was known to be not the most athletic guy at LB, but he was a hard nosed player that hit hard and played smart

No, Gooden is not on the bubble. However, I think he's approaching it. I've been to two practices, and I've read reports. Just from those two practices I can tell you this. They are not starting McClain just to see what he can do. He is making plays, and he's highly consistent. Ellerbe's doin pretty hot too. Gooden has not made the plays that Ellerbe and McClain have consistently made. I can guarantee you that McClain deserves the starting job, at least from what I've seen.

About Blizking's comment, while that may be true for tryouts, these players have already tried out, and made the team, they're workin on playtime and starting now. there's a slight difference.

ya i agree but not all the way, these guys are still in their tryout mode since they havent made the final 53 yet... so they are still basically trying out.

I think Taraves has a lot of upside and could eventually be a solid player.. but if we are looking for a team that has a solid 3rd corner to trade for and they need a MLB then I say that Taraves in the one to go because in other team's eyes I believe he has the most upside of the young linebackers. So in a lot of ways I agree with you but I do think he will be odd man out because trading him will help us bring in a solid corner (if we even decide to do so). I don't think that the trade value for McClain or Ellerbe will be nearly as high as Gooden. So that's my thoughts on it.

Your post is whats absurd. Now im starting to think you don't even watch Ravens games. Did you just jump on the bandwagon or something? Yes Bart Scott was a speed guy, in fact he was the fastest LB on the team during his days here. You obviously don't even bother to read because i replied to your comment yet you are bringing up old arguments.

Yea man... calm down. Bart wasn't a speed guy, he was just blitzing out of his mind in Rex's system and he played smart. A linebacker with elite speed doesn't go undrafted.

Say what?

Once upon a time there was a man named Adalius Thomas... Or Terrell Suggs.. Or any of our other linebackers not named Bart Scott. Scott was actually one of the slowest linebackers on our team, a classic thumper.

And as a side, Mod note: it's best not to question another members devotion and fanhood to the team. Besides, I wouldn't think a guy with 5,800+ posts "just jumped on the bandwagon".

How far ahead of the rest is McClain right now?

It's sounds like leaps and bounds but who knows with this LB crew. It might even be a game to game decision

I like when I wake up and instantly just start typing with no real thought behind it; just randow typing with whatever pops into my head...example - Rice is slow and Reed can't catch!! Awesome!

Bart was never a super athlete, he just got the most out of his body and played hard. As for Gooden, i'll take a consistent football player like McClain over an athlete any day, especially an athlete who is injury prone.

Im not even sure Bart was faster than Ray in 2006...and Ray was coming off a torn hamstring.

Gooden is a weird dude. My dad, who fixes the MRI in Owings Mills, sees players quite often while they are going to get a scan. So he knows the scoop on who is injured before the media can get to it. Anyways, Gooden was in there once. While Gooden was waiting, the zipper on the leg on his warm-up kind of pants was broke. My dad said that he took off his pants to try to fix this zipper, and went up to desk to ask the person if they had an scissors.

Just thought I should share.

remember when we use to talk about how we would have a offense but when we finally got it the defense that we loved would be gone. atleast were that our defense is still sufficent and we have alot of potential rather than just one side of the ball being strong.

on topic tho i think gooden maybe on the outside looking in because he really hasnt proven himself.

Aside from Gooden's athletecism, he has not done anything to prove himself. All he has is potential, which means nothing. Until he shows he can be a good football player, and not just a good athlete, he does not deserve to start.

Gooden took first team reps today and may supposedly start alongside Ray on Saturday: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=4823&line=178422&spln=1

Either the coaches are employing a rotation and Ellerbe will start the 3rd game or Gooden has practiced so well and with Jameel's struggles last week, Tavares may get the start.

I'd really like to see the guy do well, that goes for ALL of our players! I just hope he lives up to the potential that he was thought to have.
