12 posts in this topic

Jailbroke my iphone last night... Very cool. Theres a couple ravens theme to choose from, but not great. I'm aware of a couple computer savy fans here, so has anyone created there own theme for a jailbroken iphone yet. If so hook me up.

I have to say, after having taken two courses on intellectual property and how copyright law affects the digital age, I was ecstatic to hear the DMCA ruling about jailbreaking. In essence, this is another step towards consumers really "owning" their products in a more traditional sense and granting them the freedom to alter their electronics as they wish (within reason.) Though manufacturers and service providers are still within their rights to void warranties on jailbroken phones, that is a minor annoyance compared to the tremendous relief that this has brought the open-source community, and is a validation of the possible benefits that open-source software and development can provide.

Now that I'm off my podium...no, I don't have any themes for you, sorry.

Actually, I've heard very good things about the Droid. Your mileage may vary depending on the model, though. The operating system itself, though, has gotten generally good feedback.

I thought about buying an iPhone and was like, nah, not for me. I went with the Evo. All the things you can do on a jailbroke iphone, you can do standard on the EVO.

But you can't go wrong with a Droid X either. Both phones are leaps and bounds better than an iPhone. I wouldn't go with an original droid anymore as the Droid 2 will be out shortly.

Is it easy to jailbreak your iPhone? One of the coolest thing you can do with a jailbroken iPhone is teether it's data connection to a laptop.

I love using my Evo as a modem for my netbook. It's so convenient.

Yes its just a download.... I wanna use it for the same reason but will I get any extra charges on my bill?

I don't know about AT&T. It doesn't look like they are charging anyone if they are caught "tethering" but that could change real quick since Jailbreaking has become technically legal.

Verizon is known for giving out "mysterious" charges upon tethering cell phone users. Sprint is awesome in this regard, because they know people are doing it, and they just don't care. Sprint cares more about building up their subscription base to compete with Verizon and AT&T, so they let their users get away with a lot of stuff.

It isn't hard for any of the carriers to catch tetherers. Laptops use a lot of network noise that is uncommon to cellphones that it sticks out like a sore thumb.

On a down note. With all the traffic that the AT&T 3G network has with ipad and iPhone users. Jailbroken iPhones will do even more harm as more laptops will now be connecting to the bogged down network.
