Seen the movie last night. It was very good, but did I miss something? Was he dreaming the whole time and if so why make shutter island with the same plot? Can someone give there take on it.

Because the film is still new in theaters, could we please keep spoiler tags on whatever plot details are revealed beyond what's generally known about the film?

The theory that the film could be a dream is not a spoiler, I should note, because the plot of the movie deals with people entering other people's dreams and distorting reality.

As a reminder, spoiler tags are enabled by using [ spoiler ] and [ /spoiler ] (without spaces) to open and close the tag.
it is left to the imagination of the viewer... while he's dreaming, the top keeps spinning with out wobbling, when he's in reality gravity would take effect... thats more or less what was explained/shown.

That being said they also show that in dreams physics can be altered by the dreamer. and on another note, when he sees his kids at the end of the movie, they didn't age much, if at all from when he was dreaming a while back

I want to say he was dreaming the whole time, because the top theory was just too easy too simple
I haven't seen the movie yet, but the fact that even the spoiler-included theories are confusing me, makes me even more intrigued. I want to see it badly, but I haven't had the time, even though I went to see The Other Guys on Friday.

By the way, that movie was well worth the price of admission, though I'd heavily advise against seeing it if you hate Will Ferrell or his brand of comedy. Which is ironic, given that Will Ferrell doesn't play the over-the-top role like in his previous films.

I heard The Other Guys was stupid and not funny, it even came from a Will Ferrell fan. So I'm stuck on whether to see it or not.

It's stupid humor in the same vein as Anchorman, Step Brothers, or Talladega Nights. Much of the humor is absurd and derived from the delivery of the lines. It got mostly good reviews but I think the biggest problem some people had with it was that they thought it failed as a parody of the buddy-cop genre. To an extent, that's true, but I choose to look at the movie as being more self-contained and not a satire.

If you've liked every other Adam McKay/Will Ferrell paired film (the above movies, plus Anchorman), then you'll probably like this one. McKay seems to bring out the best in Ferrell when he's directing, as opposed to merely writing or producing. The running jokes, unlike other comedies, surprisingly don't get old.

The thing about a movie like this is there is no "right answer" the point is to spark imaginative ideas within the movie goers mind, if that happens the director did his job. It bothers me when people act like they understand every aspect... its ALL open to interpretation. Some answers may be better thought out and make more sense to you but not everyones mind works the same way.

I liked the movie and I have some ideas but it will spoil, so in that case I think this thread is worthless.

Too stylistic and mechanical for my tastes. He should have spent a few more years on the screenplay.

Anyway, isn't it time for an Expendables thread?
