That's too bad for Harris. I don't know if it was official either but ravens do have 11 cornerbacks (I added Hawkins) and he may or may have not been cut. It will be told probably later today.

if you look on the front page it confirms that he was cut. i mean i can understand wanting depth but if the guy isnt working then why not cut him. i mean walker is still out there and atleast we know what we are getting with him.

I doubt he was cut because he wasn't as good as Doug Dutch, Gerard, or Williams. He was bothered by his injury and wasn't getting reps in practice. That's not a good sign and it means he probably isn't durable enough for the regular season.

Sorry to see him cut because he brings a lot of experience but he needs to be healthy if he wants to play at his age.

and that is not much!!! either you want to see flags all day long.

i don´t see a problem in cutting harris. we have a lot of young guys on the team right now and if they all can develop and get their time and stay healthey i think we will be fine...

I didn't know we are in a situation where we could cut CB's.

He's been practicing right? He must not be a good presence at all. Something doesn't sound right.

Shame. I was hoping he'd play well this season, too. When healthy, he's a solid playmaker, as his stint with the 49ers showed. His conditioning defied his age during that run and it was reflected in his productivity past the age of 30.

But, that's the point: when healthy. He probably isn't healthy right now, so it was probably best to cut ties with him so as to make room for Hawkins and maybe another player, rather than have the roster spot be taken up and have a level of awkwardness when cutdowns occur. The team will probably look to pick him up again before the regular season if the injury heals -- provided that there also isn't another reason he was cut, as alluded to earlier...

I know the Ravens are smarter than this. They cannot believe they can get through the season with UDFAs and mediocre vets. I have faith that guys like Washington and even Carr and Gerard can step up, but it isn't enough they have to supplement the secondary with proven talent. I know the Revis and Aso trades are unrealistic but someone like a Rashean Mathis from JAX should absolutely be a priority. They need to do more then they're doing and its really a big concern.

If by some miracle, Webb and Washington are both healthy it would only serve to make the secondary that much stronger. They just aren't doing enough in this area on a team extremely talented everywhere else.

I would be in favor of a Rashean Mathis trade. He hasn't hit 30 yet but he can still play at a high level. The only knock on him is his recent injury history.

Additionally, ESPN is reporting that former LSU star Chevis Jackson is rumored to be the odd man out in Atlanta; Jackson's only entering his third year and was a former 3rd-round pick that I had briefly coveted in the 2008 Draft. The knock on Jackson, if I remember correctly from last season, is his awareness, but he has speed for days. He could be worth a look if he's on the chopping block.

From Duffy's twitter
Harbaugh on releasing Harris: Couldn't get healthy but will work it to play this year. Didn't rule out return 2 #Ravens bt hasn't discussed. Dealt with Achilles soreness throughout camp

Does anybody see Gerard or Hawkins on the opening day roster since Williams will be suspended for a few games?
I think Gerard will be on the opening roster but see Prince Miller making it ahead of Hawkins.

The CBs would be:

Washington
Carr
Fisher
Gerard
Miller

NO WAY. Miller is 5'7 - 5'8 on a good day he is just too small to be an effective corner in the NFL. The Ravens need big, tall corners in 2010 to provide depth. Hawkins is 6' and Gerard is 6'1. But this is what the preseason is for, at least for the Ravens this year. Most of my focus will be on the secondary. People also don't realize but Webb is a very real possibility to return by Week 1 for the opener and may see action in the 3rd and 4th preseason games. So don't count him out. I think he starts he is already practicing on the sidelines and looks up to speed. I will also post my prediction for the secondary (safeties and corners) their size, and their biggest attribute.

CORNERS

Washington (5'11) (Speed)
Webb (5'10) (Coverage)(Tackling)
Carr (5'9) (Coverage) - we can see that size is a real problem for our starters!
BN
Fisher (5'10) (Coverage)
Gerard (6'1) (Size)
Hawkins (6') (Size)
* I also believe we will add a starter before Week 1 but don't know who

SAFETIES

Landry (6'1) (Size) (Tackling) (Hands)
Zibby (6') (Strength)(Hands)(Elusive)
Hamlin (6'2) (Size) (Experience)
Nakamura (5'10) (Tackling)(ST)

who knows but i think its horrible not bringing in some decent proven player via trade to make sure our secondary stands some sort of fighting chance for the first half of the season

I don't see how you can say "NO WAY" when Miller likely wouldn't see the field as a CB but could contribute as a punt returner and on special teams.

And how do you know Miller isn't a better cover CB than Hawkins?

Miller will lose out to David Reed on PR and Parmele will field KR barring injury. Miller is just too small to make the squad, maybe he can be a PS guy but not the 53 man roster. On a secondary with short starters with question marks you cannot throw a 5'7 guy in the mix. Cannot and will not happen.

Parmele appears locked in as the KR but how do you know Miller will lose out to David Reed for punt returner? Reed never returned a punt in college as opposed to Miller who did. In addition, the official depth chart was released on Tuesday and Carr was listed as the starting punt returner. Some reports suggest Reed isn't even in the running for punt return duties(check bottom of the page).

I just don't see how you can speak in absolutes just because of a guy's size.

I agree with you 100%. When I have seen him play in training camp videos, he looked good. Some players use their skills and instinct to get over being short. I'm hoping Miller can do that.

No I hadn't the couple of days I was there at camp... I suppose he was unable to perform or pass the conditioning test. So in lieu of keeping him on the roster without helping out in practice they decided to add a new young body and cut him. The coaching staff know what they are doing I suppose...

Darrell Green was only 5'9 "on a good day", but he was a pretty decent cornerback.

If physical measurables such as height/weight defined a player, Ray Lewis wouldn't be the dominating defensive force that he is; he would just be an undersized MLB from the U. Lewis fell in the 1996 draft for being 'small' but if you ask any of his opponents, he is hard to miss.

Before you pass judgement on Miller, or any other unproven/rookie player, you should probably see how they perform in the preseason. Why sell the team (pardon my pun) short?

I agree, I can't make any decision on whether or not Miller is a better CB than Hawkins only based on size. The way they play matters. Darrell Green is a perfect example as stated above. The knock on Miller's lack of height is that he stands no chance against the likes of Marshall/Andre Johnson-type receivers, but I mean against Welker, why not? I personally haven't seen the kid play either so we'll see how it works. What I'm puzzled about is why we don't go sign Ken Lucas rather than get continuously acquire camp fodder?

Lucas was terrible last season and the Ravens actually brought him in for a try-out and signed Hamlin and Harris over him. Maybe he's out of shape or has simply lost his game. Who knows?

Took too many punches from Steve Smith?

If Ozzie, Harbs, and Mattison don't want him, I don't either!
