It might be new. But if you move your curser over ontop of your profile name on the top right a drop bar pops up and you can click on your messages and "my profile" options. Well now there is a notifications option. I just don't know what it is and when you get one

When somebody sends you one, you get one

Sends a notification? What classifies as a notification? Because that sounds the same as a message which would make it redundant to create a notification section

So when I have options to have something pop up on my inline notification, that will be the same as appearing under my notification section?

We don't know yet...it's new just this morning.

Yes, your inline notifications will pop up under your Notifications section.
