One Last Thing Before The Season Starts...

Before the party starts, penalties were the problem the Ravens had last season. they were 2nd in the most penalties last year.

I think the Packers were 1st and both teams did pretty well. I think we should we better this year and hopefully less flags but we dont know til the season starts. Our team seems more discplined tho.

I'm sure the coaches are working on this aspect during training camp. I saw them going through a lot of drills about proper blocking techniques, and coverage drills.

The only way to really fix the issue of discipline is through training camp. And I'm sure this is high on Harbuagh's list to really examine.

I'm sure we'll be a tighter ship come opening day with the focus on that this year.

The only thing I heard about flags this off season in training camp is that there was a lack of them being thrown. Hopefully that continues

It doesn't matter what memo he gets, he does not know how to play the ball. Bad positioning = playing the body first out of desperation.

Well, most of our penalties were PI, and it looks like that won't be an issue b/c we might not have any corners on the field.

One good thing with the shift in Refs this year, being placed behind the offensive line instead of where the linebackers are, holding penalties should decrease quite a bit. Problem is, it goes both ways. I really feel for Pryce this year.

The Ravens play a certain way on defense and I don't see that changing so penalties will always be apart of the game with the Ravens. I do feel that a little discipline should be focused on but as long as we are playing smash mouth football I am cool with what ever comes our way. I feel that our lack of a pass rush at times kind of shocked our secondary at times last year leading to more PI calls, but the team as a whole should have a better understanding and grasp of the problem so it should be a better year.

Now that Frank "Pass Interference" Walker, is out of the picture, and Oniel Cousins won't be grabbing everyone's jersey, we should improve from last year.

Yes, I hope they are working on that problem. The Ravens should have a few Marine Corp Drill Instructors on stand by to get into the players face every time they are penalized.

I can definitely see that happening. Frank and Fisher should battle for the number in pre-season. Whoever gets beat less wins the number.

True, but all of our penalty came on critical moments. Good thing is most of those were caused by bad players we got rid of.

The team needs to work on special teams penalties the most. How many times did we see a great Parmele or Carr return get negated from a penalty? Too often.

I can remember Parmele return the ball very nicely on kick returns. He'd take it up the sideline beatifully. Carr didn't do as well at the beginning as he did towards the end of the year did better on punt returns but he would get flagged more. This year i hope will be much better

I don't remember Carr getting flagged on punt returns. I do remember some other guy (Edgar Jones?) getting flagged everytime Carr got a long run, though. >.< It makes me wonder whether Carr actually performed better or if he looked better because of cheating.

The only special teams penalty I remember specifically is the one from the start of the Indy playoff game, and I looked it up.
"1-P.McAfee kicks 74 yards from IND 30 to BLT -4. 34-J.Parmele to IND 40 for [b]64 yards[/b] (40-J.Silva). PENALTY on BLT-82-L.Smith, Illegal Block Above the Waist, 7 yards, enforced at BLT 14."

Even though I don't remember other examples, I have this gut feeling like Carr did have some great returns at the end of the year which got called back.
