2011 Ravens Unrestricted Free Agents

3 posts in this topic

I know this is really early to talk about free agents, but I was just curious which Ravens were playing in their contract years. So I looked it up, and found these UFA's:

QB Troy Smith
I highly doubt we sign Smith, and he will finally get his wish of competing for the no.1 QB spot.

DL Haloti Ngata
We need to sign Ngata, do it now. Even if he tests the market, I feel like he may take a huge deal somewhere else.

DL Trevor Pryce
I have a feeling Pryce will choose to retire.

CB Chris Carr
If Carr comes out and plays excellently in the absence of Foxworth, he could be back. But other then that, this could be the last year of the Chris Carr experience.

QB Marc Bulger
He's getting paid way too much to be a backup. But if Flacco goes down with a serious injury, Bulger may be back to provide insurance.

FB LeRon McClain
Depends, does McClain want no.1 RB money, or will he settle for a FB contact?

WR Donte' Stallworth
Let's see how he performs.

WR Mark Clayton
I think this could be Clayton's last year as a Raven.

WR Demetrius Williams
Will he get cut this year? Who knows.

OT Jared Gaither
Trade him now Ozzie, and get something for him.

OL Marshal Yanda
I say they keep Yanda over Chester.

OL Chris Chester
Could be Chester's last season.

C David Hale

LB/DE Antwan Barnes
My sleeper for this year, we'll see how he performs.

CB Fabian Washington
Once again, we'll see how he does.

S Dawan Landry
I want to keep him, but it may be tough.

S Ken Hamlin
We'll see how he does, or if he will play at all.

K Shayne Graham
See how he does.

P Sam Koch
Top notch punter, keep him.

Again, anything could happen between now and the end of season, including new deals. We just have to wait and see.

I have a funny feeling that due to CB issues and some of the deep depth and talent we have at certain positions we won't carry Troy Smith into the regular season. We have Bulger and as you stated already gets paid very well for a backup so the time is now to get anything for Smith instead of letting him go after camp or as an unrestricted FA.

Ngata will get his big pay day and I wouldn't be surprised if this got done before the end of the season. This guy is as solid as they come as far as D-linemen go and there is zero chance he even gets a chance to test the market, but at the very least I could see a franchise tag being placed on him until the two sides can come to an agreement very similar to Suggs' situation.

Gaither will get resigned depending on performance and his willingness to play where the coaching staff wants him to play. This team is slowly transitioning into an offensive powerhouse building it all around young Joe Flacco. Unless another OT steps up or the team gets that desperate Jared will be a Raven for quite some time.

Landry should be back as well but it really depends on his performance and the performance of the young guys behind him like Haruki Nakamura(spelling). My gut says he will be back though.

McClain will be back as well. With the youth and talent we have on our o-line and the skill level of Leron there is no question that he will get re-signed. Rice is a little guy and needs a big guy like Leron to block for him at times and on short yardage situations there is really no runner better to have than McClain IMO. He is very solid in all aspects of his position and you don't get rid of players like that.

Sam Koch is really the only other guy on this list IMO that I see, other than the players I listed above, that I definitely see getting re-signed. Sam has been top 5 at his position for a few years now and has helped our defense in keeping the opposing team to driving a long field to pay dirt. I feel it's very important to keep our ST balanced Sam is a big part in doing so.

The rest of these guys have chances to come back but it's all due to performance, free agents we sign, who we draft and how others on the team progress during the season.

Gaither also depends a lot on money too. He will probably ask for close to LT money when we are going to want him to be RT. I don't think the Ravens are going to put up the money to pay for Gaither who has injury problems. The FO has already seemed to have a liking for Oher. And I just get the feeling the Ravens will over a good contract to Gaither, but I think someone will want him as a LT and we aren't going to be willing to pay him LT money. I would say Gaither has a 35% chance of being back.

I could see Landry being back just because Reed's future is up in the air. I doubt the Ravens want two new safeties back there and I think we will offer Landry a pretty good contract deal. I would say 75% chance of coming back.

McClain will be interesting. We will have to pay him as the highest paid fullback in the league. I think he will come back. But you never know if someone is going to pay him more as a rb than a fullback. I would say 60%
