Yeah, I remember Billick chewing out the ref for that one. It was a questionable one. Maybe Ed can actually return an INT for a TD when we play the Jets this time around.

That would mean he's playing, not on PUP and performing up to Reed standards. That would make me happier than a pig in....

I'll settle for Zibby picking off Sanchez and returning it 100+ yards.
Reed, Zibby, Lewis, Oher, Suggs, Koch......I don't care. As long as someone picks Sanchez off and takes it back!!

You guys need to realize that if we do get a big name corner we will have to sacrifice someone because of the cap space they will take.

Lets look at the corner based defenses in the league:

Oakland Raiders,
Denver Broncos,
Buffalo Bills,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
Cleveland Browns,
Yes we do realize that and I realize that someone who will be sacrificed is Jared Gaither. So I'm not worried about losing anyone because even when the cap comes back with Gaither gone we'll be able to keep more guys under contract.

Looking at that list, there are only 3 teams I would call, Oakland, Denver and Tampa. If Oakland is willing to part ways with Aso than hey so be it and that would be great. Looking at Denver and Tampa, Bailey and Barber would both be good options to trade for. Denver needs a RB, so we could send them Willis and a 3rd for Bailey, and all we would have to do with Bailey is extend him 1 or 2 years since he is scheduled to be a Free Agent, and not sure about Barber's contract status but he would also be a good CB to trade for since Tampa is rebuilding. In fact I'm more on the band wagon of trading for Bailey but hey whatever Ozzie does or doesn't do I won't complain, I never doubt one of the best GMs in the NFL.

Asante Samuel sucks. He can't cover. He gets beat when he gambles and he gets beat when he doesn't

He is responsible for the miracle catch few years back because Tyree beat him.

Plus, he has a monster contract, and he'll start aging quick

What would you guys think of making a play for Rashean Mathis. It's been reported that he wants a new contract and is due $3.95m this season. It's also been reported that the Jags aren't too happy with him because he didn't attend any off season programs. The only downside I see is he's much like Q and has been injured on occasion during the last three seasons. He's still fairly young at 29 along with play making abilities and he does face the Colts, Texans & Titans twice a year. All high powered offenses. Just a thought!

Just off the top of my head I would say no more than a player and a low round pick. But, without knowing their needs, it be difficult to say which player and which pick. That's where all the negotiating comes in. The other issue is finding out from Mathis what he is expecting with regards to length of contract and money. I'd have to know all these answers before I could truly answer your question.

:34853_doh: Can we NOT get Revis? This D is all about pressure on the QB and pressure off the secondary. We don't need a superstar CB for a ridiculous amount of money.

Am I the only person that thinks Revis is highly over-rated? He is a very good corner, but dont you think the pressure has anything to do with it? The Jets get a ton of pressure. Rex's blitzes are insane. Revis doesn't have to cover more than 3 seconds at times. Sometimes less. That may be exaggerated but still, the point is, the pressure makes him better. The game is won in the trenches people.

Frank Walker is coming back and will dominate. Count on it.
Well, I'd rather him than some dude off the street. He showed up in the playoffs, if he can show more consistency, he'd be a good corner.

The Jags aren't giving up Mathis for a random player and a low-round pick.

Funnily, I was a reading a magazine today and CB Derek Cox(a rookie last year) actually outplayed Mathis.

I have no idea what half of you are talking about. I thought we needed a corner with Fab, Webb, and Carr and now you lose the best corner of the three and you don't need one. Are you kidding me? We absolutely need a corner or two and we will definitely explore every possibility to get one. I have faith in our team, but there is no way that you can start a season with rookie corners, who have practice squad talent. All the pressure in the world is not going to help us on the back end of this D. We need a corner and we need him in time to train him for the season. Carlos Rodgers is looking real good right now. If not him, you get the point, that type of talent a veteran that knows the ends and outs of the game.

Aaron Wilson believes they'll make a move:

My understanding is that they want to evaluate the corners on the roster before making a major move. Long time until the season.

What do you guys think is ozzie gonna make a trade for a corner. Is this new guy dutch just a camp body. i personally think we should package a pick with mcgahee for a good corner and let mcclain get the goal line carries to make him happier and i think he would do better at it and just get another fb or have ngata be fb on goalline. i think we will do ok but i dont think our corners could handle a team like the colts or packers that have a lot of wr threats not to mention bengals got ocho t.o bryant greshiam caldwell and shipley.
i would never ever trade willis!!! i think it is safe to say that he is a top 10- top 15 running back in this league. and he can du things that the other guys on the team just cannot do!!! he is the best red zone back in the nfl!!! now with 240 he will be even more dangerous. rice is the workhorse and long distance runner, but in todays game you need more than that. so just forget about a trade like that.

in general i think that our secondary is quiet okay. not great but okay. we have depth at corner and still ed reed (hopefully). landry is getting back to greatness and zibby is on a good way to replace reed someday. i am fine with webb, fabian and carr. you still have williams (even he is suspended) and gerrard who can backup those starting guys.
our secondary wasn´t that bad last season. our pass rush sure was. but i think that should be solved as you hear it all around how great it is in camp and stuff. suggs is back to his probowl form and i believe that barnes will have a breakout season this year. and the best is: we still have solid allaround JJ!

so just relax. it is good to be a raven fan at those days. our team is still young and we have great years to come!!!

I really believe KJ Gerard is ready for nickel action if Webb isn't ready for week one. Our CB situation will be just fine, just have faith. I really don't believe we will trade McGahee, too valuable for the backfield. Hopefully we do deal Gaither if he's "healthy" and if another team loses a tackle during camp.

He's made plays this off-season but I think Carr will be the nickel.

It sounds like a good idea at first because he should have a lot of value on the market. Willis is only due a $3.6 million salary this year, but a $6 million deal that increases every year after that. Furthermore, without a CBA this season we won't be charged the $6.35 million cap penalty, but possibly a $8.75 million penaltiy next year if an agreement with the players union is reached.

However, I would think long and hard about trading away our leading scorer on offense (led team with 14 total TDs). As talented as we are in the back field you still have to remember how important a dominant run game is to our offensive style and even with a proven Ray Rice to not take McGahee for granted. I don't know if you went to training camp on Saturday but Willis was making one handed grabs like Chris Carter.

For the deal to make sense it would have to be for one heck of a proven CB!

29 isn't over the hill. He had the 2nd most INTs in his career last Season, with 9, so he's obviously not declining. He only gets beat when he gambles. He's still one of the best CBs in the game. I would love to see Asante in purple, but chances of it happening aren't too high.
Alright, why do some of you think we can just trade for a team's #1 CB like they won't need him or want to keep him. In all honesty, if you are talking about Revis, Asomugha, Asante Samuel, etc. then you must be willing to negotiate trading Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Jared Gaither, Ben Grubbs, or Le'Ron McClain. You can't trade a 3rd string anything and a mid round draft pick for a multi Pro-Bowl #1 CB!! It's really late in the season in regards to team acquisitions. No one is giving up a #1 CB without the chance to draft a 1st round replacement. Imagine it's 2002 and some team asked for C-Mac. Would you be willing to take QB Todd Bouman and a 5th round pick? In June 2010 would you have traded Foxworth for a 3rd string anybody and a late pick for 2011? If we were giving up Foxworth I bet you want Demarcus Ware, Andre Johnson, or Jon Beason. You'd want compensation and prices go up when a team acts desperate.

A trade has to be good for both sides. Right now our best shot is to pick up an older vet who gets cut, a 3rd string starter who loses his job to a rookie, or trading a guy who we know we'll cut for a 3rd or 4th string CB. Ozzie is a patient man and he has sent out his minions to bring him our next Jim Leonhard. Something happens to players on D when they step into Baltimore donning the purple and black. Our CBs need to step up and become stars.

That is just hilarious.

I'm a Willis lover and think MAYBE he can be top 20, but top 10 is out of the question, top 15 is a possiblity if given the chance to prove it (which he doesn't have assuming Rice doesn't injure himself) and is still unlikely.

And the best red zone rusher. Ever heard of Adrian Peterson, Brandon Jacobs, Steven Jackson, Michael Turner, etc. No way he is better than any of them in the red zone.

So now we have Frank Walker, McClain, and Willis on this topic. Maybe Ed Reed would like to jump in and rant about how the FO should give him more $$$
