Weeping Over A Song

132 posts in this topic

Over the past two day, I have been somewhat emotional, mostly due to someone referring to me a link elsewhere on the 'net, which directs me to a video of a song from a cartoon episode.

The song is titled "The Littlest Lamb", and as I hear it, I have been weeping - I think this is mostly because it makes me wish I had a family of my own. I have discussed this with a friend of mine here in Clinton, and she said that I was weeping because I was just sentimental.

I wish to know from you here in these boards - is this just being sentimental? I welcome your responses.

Honestly, this sounds more like depression than being sentimental. Especially when you talk about wishing you had a family of your own. I know there's plenty of people on here who have dealt with and still deal with it, so there's support in that. I would also recommend speaking to a professional (therapist, psychologist, etc.)about it.

Wait until your first child.
There will be a song you will here sometime/somewhere that will tug at your heart strings.

There is a song for both my son and daughter that tears me up every time I hear it. Noone else gets it, but it is my own thing.

SIDENOTE- we were at a KC concert last year and my friend, whose son was just born, could not stop crying when There Goes my Life came on.

I have to disagree here. How old are you Jon? I can understand if one was in there teens or 20's. But as one gets older, having a family becomes priority #1.

Are you even paying attention? The OP is an older gentleman without a family and its reasonable to assume its going to stay that way. Way to dig it in. :34853_shakehead:

And the lack of having one as you get older would be reason #1 for being depressed. One of the symptoms for clinical depression is "persistent sad, anxious, or 'empty' feelings." I'd say that crying for two days over a song would fall under persistent sad feelings.

George, there's plenty of people on here who have dealt with depression, including myself. I believe there used to be a thread on here with people discussing it. The best thing you can do is find someone to talk to and possibly seek professional help if it doesn't get any better.

I didn't mean to cause an uproar over my feelings here. All I did was ask if something could be taken as sentimental, and stated why I was feeling that way.

I wanted to have a family when I was younger, but circumstances with my parents when i was in my twenties were what caused me to miss out on so much in life.

Currently I am hoping to make my fortune as a writer, either short stories or screenplay, and I do believe that I will get over this situation, as I do have friends and family who will be able to help me.

I thank you for listening to me, and hopefully I will get started writing when I can get the equipment for writing within the near future.

I can't listen most country music for that reason, those old "Cotton is the Fabric of your life" commercial reduced me to a blubbering idiot.

I did get it. THAT is why I was stating the song was affecting him in a sentimental way more than that of a depressive, seek a doctor- type of way. Many people can wish for a family, yet not need to seek counseling just because a certain song tugs at their heart strings.

And '...reasonable to assume its going to stay that way'- and you think I lack tact. GEESH! Nice, real nice. :34853_shakehead:

I, too, am only human, Boh, and I have been getting over the weeping for a little while now. I certainly hope to make some good thing happen in my life, and since this was just after my class reunion this past Saturday night, it would have to show in my posts here.

I am very sorry if I have offended any of you, and I will be all right. I thank everyone for their concern.

I can't listen to Queensryche's Silent Lucidity without sobbing.
That song actually makes me happy.

"Bridge" by Queensryche used to make me upset.

If I hear that #@$% song Christmas Shoes it destroys me and they play it incessantly around the holidays. Butterfly Kisses is another one, thats why I like Rock!!!! Proud to be an American used to be another one but I have since gotten over that one.

Christmas Shoes was a little too cheesy to make me sad. That, and I'm more into the Chanukah songs anyway

For some reason, I don't crack until the dad starts to. There's something about a grown man weeping that gets me every time.

And the Dreidel Song is only the best song ever.

"Tears in Heaven" makes me well up, but only because I know the story behind it.
I watched the Bio on Eric Clapton last night and to be honest, I had forgotten that song existed. I'll always remember him saying how easy that song was to write. As a Dad, that is just unimaginable.

Not sure if this counts, but Taps, Amazing Grace (on the bag pipes) and one other Sailors funeral song (forget the name) tend to choke me up, but those are all for obvious reasons.

Since my last post in this thread, I have been in contact with a professional in Oak Ridge, and when my next doctor's appointment comes up, I will ask about some counseling for my situation.

In a sense, I have Jon to thank for that, as I was stopped in thought yesterday by some remarks a friend of mine made, and it has occurred to me that I have trouble letting go of the past history - especially what I wished to accomplish when I was younger.

I thank you all for your concern.

Okay, friends, yesterday I went to see a behavioral health professional in Oak Ridge about my affairs, and the people there at the facility have told me that i may be recommended to a psychologist to speak with about my situation.

I just hope that I hear from someone on this, as I wish to make a decent change in life. I'll admit, this started over my weeping due to a song, but it has gone on to include my problems with letting go of past history.

I wish to make a change for the better here. Just thought I would let all of you here know of this.

No song has ever made me sad but Peter Jackson's "King Kong" did when the Air Force shoots down Kong while Naomi Watts begs them not to. It was odd, because I rarely become sad: I'm very composed. You ever saw a movie that made you sad?

Well, I'll admit to seeing a movie back when I was twelve that made me sad. The movie would air on television under the name, "Challenge to be Free", about a trapper in Alaska who went on the run for supposedly killing in self defense. He shot his way into an avalanche at the end, and that was what made me sad. I thought he was done for.

Tomorrow I will have some time to help a friend of mine who has been busy around Clinton, and hopefully I will get my laundry done while I'm at it.
