Heap has the starting spot locked up. All Dickson and Pitta are battling for is that number two spot, although I see them both getting playtime, regardless of who's number 2 on the depth chart and who's 3.

Thank you,
I wanted someone to mention that Heap had it locked up because he is one of many of our franchise players....

I have a feeling we'll be referring to them as "Dickson + Pitta" for a long time. They'll be a tandem.
Both men are fantastic in the passing game, Baltimore could very well have two of the top five tight ends in the league in a few years. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. Although I do believe both will turn into fantastic receiving tight ends.

Dickson looked lost on blocking assignments and even ran into his own guy and dropped a couple passes.

Dickson will be a good TE, but I think its Pitta who will be a future pro-bowler.
Yes, I think Pitta will outshine Dickson as well, in fact considering we had got Pitta in the 4th, I kinda wished we would have went somewhere else in the third instead of Dickson. Looking at it I wish Ozzie would have chose Morgan Burnett or John Jerry in the spot where we got Ed Dickson but I guess Ozzie didn't think Pitta would have been there in the 4th so he took Dickson as insurance. I think ultimately we are going to run into a situation where both Dickson and Pitta are going to be great TE's in a few years and 1 will stay with the team and 1 will leave in Free Agency. Hopefully we keep Pitta over Dickson.

I don't understand why so many people are picking Pitta over Dickson. You act like they have done enough already to judge which one is better. It's too early to determine one over the other.

I love the attitudes of both guys and it sounds like they both have the mentality of a Raven. One thing about Dickson that stands out to me is his intelligence. Athleticism and intelligence are a scary combination. I'm sure the same could be said of Pitta.

I agree. Let's wait to see them on the field before we make any forecasts for them.

I agree to an extent BUT Pitta has looked better in camp from what I've seen. Granted, I'm not an NFL Talent Eval. person but he seems more complete. I think Dickson is more explosive but explosiveness doesn't pick up a LB when the TE needs to chip. If Dickson does turn into that player though, I think he could be VERY GOOD! I like Pittas body better for a TE though, he looks like he could take more abuse.

SI has Pitta as the #2 Tight end, I disagree with that.
Pitta can block better, and since we're a running team he will see more PT. Dickson will be the #2 pass catcher.

HAHA that's VERY wishful thinking!

I like it though. I agree Pitta & Dickson will be a formidable combo in the future. Pitta has great hands- I can see him being the next Todd Heap (with less injuries hopefully lol). And Dickson is very athletic and is a deep threat. Dickson is more of a Shannon Sharpe type TE who will get big yards in the passing game while Pitta is a safety valve for Joe.

All I can say is this.

Heap was out there practicing today and he looked great. Pitta has the exact same physical attributes as Heap and is even reserved in his personality from what I can tell. But he looked awesome as well. Dickson also made some incredible plays too.

It does look like Heap will remain the number one guy. But they were using sets today where both Dickson and Pitta were in the line up.

I think we are going to have 10-12 probowlers this year all with a Raven helmet on...
I really don't think Pitta or Dickson will be Pro Bowlers this year. Regardless of what I think though, we haven't even seen them on the field this year, or even play in a professional game. So it's a little early to even elude to them being Pro Bowlers this year.

Flacco
Rice
McClain
Boldin
Oher
Grubbs
Ngata
Lewis
Suggs
Reed

those are the ones I see making the Pro Bowl. Only 10 Pro Bowlers is pretty disappointing though :D

Add Grubbs and or Yanda. : )
:plus-un2:

Thanks I totally forgot about Grubbs I think he has a great chance to go the Pro-Bowl this year. There's NO way Yanda will make it though (no disrespect because I think Yanda is good but he's not very famous outside Baltimore).

Well, I know you can speak from actually being there to see them both, so I think your opinion does hold water :). I still won't give an edge to either one, though. I'll wait for a few preseason games and maybe even some of the regular season before I determine who I think is better.

I think we all agree that we have good feelings for both Dickson & Pitta. But, it will all come down to how they're used and their play during games. I will wait as well until I see them play before forming any opinions.

Dickson reminds me of Rolando McClain and I think Dickson looks more like linebacker and he would make a great run/pass blocker...He maybe able to be the next Edgar Jones type but maybe even better.

........

Edgar Jones did nothing for us and will probably not even make the roster this year. Why would we want Dickson to be like him? Dickson is a TE NOT a linebacker and it would be stupid to convert him into a position he hasn't played since high school just because you think he LOOKS like a linebacker. He looks very promising as a TE and lets keep it that way. Besides, we're EXTREMELY deep at linebacker already and lack depth at TE (until Pitta/Dickson prove themselves on the NFL level).

Then again... Lardarius does look like Chris Johnson, maybe we could convert him to running back? We have plenty of cornerbacks and we could sure use another runningback... /sarcasm

So far from what i've heard and saw it looks like both dickson and pitta are shaping up to be great. i think dickson will be better than we orginally expected.
