UFC Live: Jones Vs. Matyushenko

Just thought I'd remind any Arthur Jones fans or UFC fans that Jon "Bones" Jones (Arthur's younger brother) is fighting in the main event on UFC Live August 1st. Jones is looking to improve upon his 10-1 record (he was Disqualified in a very controversial fight against Matt Hamill...so he really hasn't been defeated yet). His opponent, Vladimir Matyushenko (24-4) is about to suffer his 5th loss. Tune in to UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko on Versus (a channel I believe is supported by Comcast) or ufclive.com. Let's go!

Why was Jones DQ'd?

From what I remember, he threw several vertical elbows, which are illegal in the UFC.

Top of the head. He was only penalized a point originally, but then Hamill couldn't continue, so they had to DQ him.

They've definitely grown on me. I especially love watching Jones because he is related to Arthur...and he's a beast with a very unorthodox fighting style. The people he fights get so confused xD.

He also dislocated his shoulder, earlier during the fight.

Jones can throw some elbows. I know six of his 10 wins are by knockout, and he knocked out Brandon Vera with mainly an elbow.

Wow thats pretty awesome. Ive been a pretty avid fan of Jon Jones since hes been in UFC. I had no idea he was Art Jones brother.

Bones is a beast though, he is very explosive, although he could work on his conditioning a little though.

Jones was DQ'd for throwing a DOWNWARD elbow when they were grappling on the ground, he wasn't DQ'd by the spinning elbow that hit Hamill in the back of the head. In that Brandon Vera fight he ends up breaking a bone in his face, I think he breaks Vera's eye socket or cheek bone, which is why he turtles right away. Also there was already a UFC thread in progress...

Me, too...which is why it was a funny coincidence when we drafted his brither. However, I didn't know at the time that they were related, either. It's a cool connection, though.

yeah, I would say his conditioning could use some work. Jones said in an interview that he had been training for tonight's fight like Vlad was his toughest opponent yet (which you could argue between him and Vera I guess). I'm hoping that means he has been working hard on his conditioning.

I didn't mean for it to be a UFC thread. I just wanted to remind any one who was interested about Jones' big fight tonight. If he wins tonight, he admitted that he felt he should be given bigger names to fight in his weight class [url="http://www.versus.com/mma/"][LINK][/url].
