Why Dont The Redskins Have A Coach Yet?

16 posts in this topic

I was a having a discussion about this with some Redskins fans and I want some other opinions on it. My cousin believes the organization is going through an indepth search and is crossing all T's and dotting their I's. I am not so sure that, thats the case though. How many people have withdrawn their name from consideration after meeting with Snyder? My count is 3, maybe 4. I think it has more to do with Snyder not being a good owner and the fact that the team is not as talented as Snyder and Redskins fans believe it is. They are also getting old at several key positions and since they rarely have all of their draft picks they have no young talent looking to step into those positions. Thoughts?

I think Snyder has screwed up royally. He was likely about to pull the trigger on Fassel - actually hiring an OC and DC that was recommended and requested by Fassel during earlier interviews - and then decided Spags might be a better bet. Despite the extra money The Giants offered Spags, I can't think he'd have been too happy having his coaching staff forced upon him rather than being given the freedom to pick his own.

Add to that the fact that the Skins are a mess as a franchise, about to embark on their sixth coach in ten years and with a reputation of a meddling owner, and it makes for a fairly unattractive proposition.

So in summary - Danny Snyder screwed up and now he's left with the scraps to pick from. Mooch or Jimmy F. Another reason to appreciate our FO all the more.

My father in law is a long-time fan and he thinks Dannyboy is having trouble getting along with the potential picks.

That's why I wasn't worried about the Skins stealing potential prospects from the Ravens.

My Redskins-worshipping friend wrote a ten page paper on why Dan Snyder is a bad owner.

He got an A, but he was too depressed about the paper's content to be happy.

Hit the nail right on the head.

Fact of the matter is, Snyder messed up the minute he had both the OC and DC in place BEFORE bringing in the head coach.

From the looks of things, either Jim Zorn (the OC) or Greg Blache (the DC) will likely be given head coaching duties if Joe Bugel (assistant head coach to the offense) isn't promoted.

Again, from day one, Daniel Snyder has treated his position almost as if he's a kid in a candy store, and hasn't seemed to learn a thing despite working with Joe Gibbs. Although Gibbs has said that he'd have a hand in the search, I bet he's had more important issues to deal with (such as his grandson battling leukemia) than holding Snyder's hand.

They promoted their recently hired OC to HC. And people thought Harbaugh had a light resume. I'm ROTF.

According to AP:

Zorn, a former Seattle quarterback, has been the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach for the last seven years. The Redskins hired him to be their offensive coordinator on Jan. 26 while continuing their search for a head coach.

Not only do they have a REALLY inexperienced guy at HC, now they have to search a depleted market for another new OC.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

well at least he gets to hire his own OC.....maybe

They already have a plethora of coaches on that staff (assuming that most of those coaches will be retained).

I figure, Zorn will go the Mike Holmgren route and call his own plays without formally naming an offensive coordinator.

Granted, Holmgren DID hire Gil Haskell after a while and NAMED him offensive coordinator, but Holmgren still called all the plays and Haskell served as nothing more than a sounding board. Similar to what Rick Neuheisel was last season to Brian Billick.
