Well after everything we gone through, I am glad some other team is having injuries and it's not just us. Dez better hope it isn't a season ending injury, because not only will that cause Dez to have not played FB in two years come next season but it could hurt the Cowboys chances of the Super Bowl. Hope Dez is alright!

Here is an update via PFT: It is likely Dez has an high ankle sprain. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/30/report-dez-bryant-likely-has-high-ankle-sprain/
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports that the injury suffered by Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant toward the end of Friday's practice is "likely" a high ankle sprain. Bryant is scheduled for an MRI on Friday night.

Cowboys executive V.P. Stephen Jones expressed optimism when asked about the injury earlier in the day, but league sources tell MacMahon that the damage to Bryant's ankle is significant.
I don't wish harm to any player, but this coincidentally seems like a case of karma. For as hard as Bryant appears to work, he also seems to have a lack of respect. Not just referring to the incident where he didn't want to carry Roy Williams' pads, but reports of him being late to meetings with teams prior to the draft, as well as showboating for some of the Cowboys fans during open practices.

The diva act might be something that many wide receivers share, but it's certainly not something that I'd want to see out of a first-round rookie so soon.

Perhaps if he had carried the pads for Williams it may have strengthend his ankle and none of this would have happened. Just making fun. Hope the guy gets back soon. God knows we dont need to bring any more bad karma this way.

I have to agree with you, Franchise, there are a number of receivers and tight end who show the diva act from time to time, T.O. and OchoCinco being the most obvious examples, but when a rookie receiver starts acting like this before the first pre-season game is played, only to have this happen - that's just too much for some teams to take.

I have to hope that Dez Bryant recovers and that he gets over himself - and soon.

Exactly how has Dez been acting since he became a Cowboy? There have been no reports of him doing anything but work hard. The coaches and management have been thrilled with him, trying in vain to conceal their excitement over his performance in training camp. They know the deal on #88, as does every fan who follows the team on a daily basis.

As far as the injury in concerned, his prognosis has him returning between the end of August or the week before the first regular-season game. I'm willing to bet that Dez's work ethic and desire to be on the field will allow him to be back in time for the final two preseason games.

I believe Franny already stated how Dez has been acting since he became a Cowboy. Actually, in that very same post you quoted.

According to reports out of Dallas, Jerry Jones is bothered by the injury to Dez Bryant because he believes Bryant should not have been practicing so hard. (LINK)

Though I understand why you want to protect your highly-paid prospects, I think the lack of NFL experience that Bryant and all rookies have would necessitate a heavier workload.

Look at how the Ravens are overworking RB Curtis Steele; the only reason why no one complains about Steele is because he's not expected to be a starter or immediate backup. Yet with Bryant, his first-round designation automatically makes him a player to protect in the eyes of the owner.

And he was wrong in that very same post. #88 hasn't had a single problem with his punctuality in Dallas. You're talking about things that happened in college, things that even his college coaches said were vastly overstated.

When you're lucky enough to play for the Cowboys every move will be scrutinized. Something as silly as not carrying another players shoulder pads doesn't qualify as an act of a diva. The only thing he's demonstrated in Dallas is that he has a tremendous chance at becoming the ROY.

The lateness I was referring to wasn't his punctuality in Dallas, but his habit of showing up late to draft interviews and combine activities. Even Deion Sanders, one of the players that is mentoring him, said publicly that he needs to work on his punctuality. (LINK)

What has Bryant done to show that he has a tremendous chance at becoming the offensive rookie of the year? Catch passes in shorts in June and July? Run routes in walkthroughs? Bryant has the same chance at winning rookie of the year at this time of year as C.J. Spiller, Tim Tebow, Juice Williams, Curtis Steele, LeGarrette Blount, Armanti Edwards, and insert-your-rookie-here.

His problem lies within his maturity, not within his work ethic. And no, two and two don't necessarily go together. Dez Bryant was lashing out at the media before he was even drafted. Now he's, "lucky enough," to play for an NFL team with the most publicity, whether it is warranted or not. His standards for himself are obviously high, which is a definite positive because if a player doesn't believe in himself, nobody else will. But he has repeatedly shown a disregard towards others' standards for him. Carrying a veteran's pads is a tradition. It's not a meaningless act of labor, or an attempt at empowerment. It's a way of leveling the playing field, and discouraging players that dominated their previous competition to hold a sense of entitlement. But after giving #88 that exact number, without having to play a single down in the NFL, I wasn't exactly surprised at the outcome. I do wish him a speedy recovery, and hope his career blossoms. I just hope his maturity grows along with his talent.

Dez Bryant hasn't had a problem in Dallas. That's all that matters. They'll give him enough time to recover from the injury and he'll be ready to contribute significantly by week one.

He has to prove he can play in the NFL. Remember, he wasnt the first receiver taken in the draft, and receivers taken in the first round dont always live up to number one receivers.
