Technically every team is a super bowl contender at this point in the season. We weren't clear cut favorites when we won the super bowl in 2001 but we made it to the playoffs and got hot at the right time. May be the formula again this year. Ozzie will add another corner before the season starts. Some of you are getting ansty to fast. The big cuts haven't even started yet.

First off I would like to say our chances are good as any Jets and Bengals both teams head coaches were our defensive coordinators.
Second, I would like to say that Ray Lewis said this I'm saying the exact same thing, if you can some how get to the passer before he releases the ball there would be no need of a secondary. With Cody, Ngata and Gregg it shouldn't be hard for guys like Johnson, Suggs, Krugar, Barnes and Pryce to get on some QB action.

Not to nit-pick but it was 2000 when we won the superbowl.

2000 season, but the SB win was in the year 2001 and is what I think he may have meant. Or, I'm wrong and opening my mouth when I shouldn't be....it happens ;)

You are probably correct in your assumption. That is why I used the word nit-pick.

Make it to the playoffs then anything can happen this team can make it there

Yep, and we can get torched again by another pass oriented team. We gotta get these corners fixed or we aren't going anywhere in the playoffs.

Not necessarily. Someone else posted in a different thread how the Saints, the Colts and the Jets managed with pass defense. Both were in he early to low 20's if I remember, which shows me that they strived off of pass rush and turnovers. If we can get to Manning, Brees, Schaub etc., in less than five seconds, it'll make our lives much easier. The front seven is the key to making a deep playoff run, the secondary isn't our entire defense.

The CBs weren't very good last season but they weren't "torched" by Peyton in the play-offs.

I think we're still Superbowl contenders, but not favorites. I know we have major injuries in the secondary, but I also think about the fact that our defense likely won't HAVE to be as good as it has been in years past. We were arguably the best defense of all time in the 2000-2001 season when we won the Superbowl, but we had no offense aside from Jamal Lewis. This year, we MAY not have as great a defense, but we'll have a very formidable offense to compensate.

I voted NO, Now if you asked this question before training camp i would have said yes but since training camp we have so many injuries it's getting to the point of just plan stupid. Just today i think 3or so guys got hurt, how bad not sure but to many banged up guys. O line which is having a problem already is getting worse, since more injuries so i vote no because of injuries. Now for some reason we all of a sudden get healthy than the sky's the limit and we can go all the way.

I voted yes even though I am not sure any team can be a front runner before the first regular season game is played. I am, admittedly, biased.(:argdancingravensblueonwkk8:)

But I like our chances to win the AFCN division and if you're gonna win the SB, a division championship is a good place to start.

The D-line looks stout...(I'm really diggin' Mr. Cody, et al) LB play is solid...and then there is the glaring weakness at DB that every offensive coordinator in the league is aware of.

If we can:

1. Develop a consistently effective pass rush

2. Continue to stuff the run

3. Become a consistent threat on offense and improve red zone efficiency

...then we can consider ourselves front runners...but we won't know any of this till we play some games.

Tell you what...If we are 3-0 after the home opener against Cleveland then you, I and
everyone at FOX Sports will be talking about the Ravens as favorites to win the SB
