I don't buy that whole " if there in another league they're not good enough for the NFL"

Many people in the past have proven that's not the case..

It's not always the case, but nine times out of ten it is. The majority of AFL players aren't on the same level as NFL starters, UFL players are not very talented collectively. I can't really judge CFL players, as I've maybe watched half a CFL game in my entire life.

So you are saying that if they had the choice to be a starter in the NFL, they wouldn't take it. There is the occasional person here and there that has been overlooked by the NFL, but AFL/CFL players simply aren't as good. If they were, they would be in the NFL.

RavensInsider

Ravens have Fabian Washington running with the first-team defense along with Chris Carr.

I think Fabe is fired up and ready to go this season. Now how that will translate into his on field play i don't know, but i think he'll open some eyes this year and finally start to realize his first round potential that he showed coming out of Nebraska.

Ive had some time to let this sink in.....I think we'll be okay.

Webb and Wash will hopefully be ready come week 1 and with the front 7 getting more pressure it'll make two players running at 90% look fine.

Hey guys, I appreciate your opinions on the other leagues. I just thought it could quite possibly be another option to find a quality player. I wasn't even sure if we actively scout the other leagues. As I said, I don't follow them, and I know that these leagues are made up of players that couldn't make it in the NFL, or chose to go there to get playing time over a career of riding the pine in this one. I remember the Stallions were a talented team when the CFL was here and the Mariners just won their championship. I'm also sure that some of the players became much better with experience and playing time. Thought it might be worth a look!

We're all ravens fans here so relax before you respond, everyone knows cb is our weakest aspect of the team, and I really think the pickups we are making are not helping at alllllllllllll. We need to make a trade big time, were so strong and deep at every other position, why not trade an extra piece of depth to get at least one shutdown cb. Alot of people are talking about reevis and Id be the happiest person ever with him, but it might be unrealistic. Although the jets might need a lineman which is why Gaither could be good bait. My idea is to go back to the old rumors and try to pursue Nmandi again from the raiders. I heard they did have some interest in Gaither but that it wasnt enough and then thats where talks went south. Even though it might be a valid and pretty even deal I think it might be a good idea to just throw in another player or draft pick to get that deal done. Plus he already signed an extension so it wont be as much money as Reevis would be since Reevis wants more than Nmandi. There has to be a way the ravens can play him for al those who say the ravens cant pay either of these cbs.

In hindsight, with Foxy (after he decided to play) Washington (when he's good) and Webb, the Ravens might have been kind of deep at cb and then look what happened. In fact, that might have been the reason Derrick Martin was traded: the perceived depth.

Of all the positions, I would not say that offensive lineman is very deep. Oniel Cousins and Tony Moll don't really do it for me, but that's just my opinion. However, if someone can be suckered into taking a player that can't even stay on the practice field in exchange for a good cb, I wouldn't complain.

And who takes Gaither's place if we trade him? I don't want to see Oniel Cousins start 16 games. We could move Yanda out and put chester in, but Yanda is a much better guard than tackle, and its nice to have chester as a backup to our guards and center, as well as the unbalanced line.

Not to mention we get foxworth back next year. He signed a long term contract. Webb and Washington will suffice. Carr is not a terrible third corner. Our cornerback position is far from ideal, but we can't be loaded everywhere. We have enough talent elsewhere to make up for average corners.

Yeah I"m starting to get over our cornerback problems. Heres the question everyone needs to ask themselves

Having Washington and Carr start the season opening and Webb probably either play nickel or come in during situation plays and Walt Harris be the other cornerback, can our defense still be a top 5 defense?

I think at the very worst top 10 is pretty reasonable. Still have great safeties. Landry will have a great year imo, Reed will come back, and I think Zibby will be very solid. Pass rush will be a lot better than last year. D line will be better (which is a scary thought). I think we could be around the number 5 or 6 defense in the league

These are the defenses that I think will be better than us (not necessarily best defense in order):

1.Jets
2.Dallas
3.Cincy
4.Pittsburgh
5.Minnesota
maybe 49ers and Green Bay

If we have the number 7 defense and a top 10 offense. We will be scary

We'll be fine once Webb gets back, I'm not sweating it..
but I would be lying if I said that I'm okay with Carr starting until then.

Lucky for us, our first seven weeks isn't too tough, so I think our offense can carry the load til then.

I think I'd rather be struggling at Corner than Tackle in this league now. There are far too many elite pass rushers to only have one top-end tackle now.

Gaither would be key to us having an offense good enough to compensate for a depleted Defense, so why on earth would we trade him? As was made obvious before, nobody is willing to pay what his estimated value is so why would they give up a shut-down corner when they weren't willing to give up a 2nd round pick?

Yeah I agree with you on that one. Thats a good point. Especially considering how this is a pass first league, and if we are going to keep up with other teams in shoot outs we need Gaither. Our defense is good enough that they will make plenty of stops and keep us in games regardless of who plays cb. A lot depends on our offense now.

Was this part sarcasm? Just checking, because the Jets, Bengals, Steelers (even without Ben), Broncos and Pats are in the first 7 weeks of the season, of which 4 are away.

I dont see Denver being much of a threat, or the Steelers really.
