Need Some Help With This Draft

40 posts in this topic

So, all right, here's the deal; I'm in a 14 team, 2 round league with only the 32 NFL teams being selected, which means their entire roster is mine. I was going to pick the Ravens with my number 9 pick, but they went at number 6. So I'm down to only a few options:

1) Cincy Bengals (I know, traitor, but they have a good team now that may be overlooked by a few)

2) Houston Texans (only problem here is the fact that they don't have a solid D, which is a problem for me, since we use 2 D's)

3) San Diego Chargers (if Vincent Jackson wasn't going to possibly hold out, this would be an easy pick)

4) Carolina Panthers (may be a surprise team this year, although I'm primarily looking at them as a possible 2nd round pick)

5) Atlanta Falcons (may be a surprise team, but I'm kinda doubting their defense and their health)

6) San Fran 49ers (great pick in the 2nd round if they're still there, but I don't know if they'll still be there at the 15th spot)

Format: 2 QB's, 2 Rb's, 4 WR's, 2 TE's, 2 Kickers, 2 Defenses, 1 flex spot

Teams taken: Ravens, Saints, Packers, Vikings, Cowboys, Colts

1. San Fran should be a big surprise this year. Their positions are stacked.

2. Don't worry about V-Jax holdout, he'll play. San Diego is a good pick.

3. Houston Texans - Good QB, Good WRs, Some options at RB and good TE, and Defense

4. Atlanta Falcons.

Thanks for the help, PuuuuuuPeeeeee lol (as made famous by TheWarden). So I should pass on the Bengals, because of possible chemistry issues?? The 49ers are really getting my attention.

I would pass on the Bengals. Chemistry issues, RB concerns, Young TE's, Age at WR. Can they dupicate? Remember a lot of their success last year were due to fluke wins.

I'd feel more comfortable with any of the teams I mentioned before the Bengals roster. Texans and San Fran have a lot of upside.

What kind of draft is that?
[/quote]

You draft two rosters and you have to start players from those two rosters. So lets say you draft San Fran and Arizona.

You can only choose from Fitzgerald, Doucet, Crabtree. etc.

If it was me with what is left, I would have to go with the 49ers and the Texans. Both teams have huge potential and upside. I like the 49ers for their "D" and the Texans for their "O" although the 49ers have some good offensive players.

I would take the Niners, that way you can have Frank Gore, Niners D, Vernon Davis, and Crabtree. Alex Smith is goin to suprise some this year also.

my second pick would be the Houston, basicly only for Andre Johnson and Matt Schuab with a capable starter in Daniels.

What kind of draft is this? I want to try it... sounds like fun. Maybe we can have a league like that goin

Its tons of fun, especially with the rules the way they are. BUT the only drawback is the fact that only a limited amount of participants can play, as there is only 32 NFL teams, and arguably only 25 serviceable ones. So if we were to start a league, there would have to be a limit to amount of participants OR we could get two together and play that way.

Yea you wouldn't want to have a max out league of 16 participants. But 10 teams is very doable.

Does your league allow trades? so that you can go outside of your teams? Or are you handcuffed to your teams?

My league is set up to where you can trade, but you have to trade one team for another single team, which means no selecting different individual players (e.g. D-Will for Smith). You have to trade for like 49ers with Panthers, if you're crazy enough to do so lol. But its a custom league, and you can set up just about any rules on there. The draft is offline, worked out through the league message board with the commish announcing which team is gone from the draft, because I don't think a live online draft is possible under the format.

What about waivers? Would you have to drop your whole team and then pick up a new one or what?

Just a side thought... if you can do waivers by player... Steven jackson and Clavin Johnson would be hot commodities off the waivers, not to mention guys like Jamaal Charles, Kellen Winslow, Knowshon Moreno, etc.

as for waivers you would have to drop an entire team which makes the draft that much more important. thanks ed for the help though. as for doing the draft we would have to kinda hurry to get it rolling. And of course find a dedicated commish as well

I'll volunteer to be the comish if no one else wants to. I've never been a comissioner, but if no one else wants to I will do the job as best I can, and I wont be a **** and abandon the league if I start sucking.

cool with me but I would like to wait and see what wacko4zacko says first. If he agrees with you being commish you have my vote. He was here asking about it first so thats why. But I appreciate your willingness though. We will also need some recruiters, if you will, to get people onboard in a fast motion. I imagine all three of us can fill that void

Okay, I think T-Ray should be commish assuming he would know better than I how to, but first things first we should create a new thread.
