If he does indeed get stuck with that we might as well make it Cheeseburger Cody. I still don't like the nickname though and prefer Mt. Cody as this was already his nickname.

did you see the picture in the article? Did he not fail the first day? Is his nickname not Cheeseburger (or Mt. Cheeseburger whichever you prefer)? Was Harbaugh not surprised that he passed the conditioning?

I mean he is in shape enough to practice but I wouldn't consider him in shape. But maybe my definition of in shape is different than other people's definition. I'm just glad he is playing

That picture was benign, I hardly gave it a second thought; especially in comparison to his infamous combine picture. He did fail the first day but he passed today. Ray Lewis' nickname is "Sugar", does it make any difference on the field? And John Harbaugh made a sarcastic remark about his passing of the test, yes.

And how "in-shape" does a space-eating DT need to be? As long as he can take on blockers and tackle running backs, he's a-okay in my book.

At afternoon practice, I got to watch Marc Bulger's quick release and Troy Smith getting picked off in the red zone.

Have you seen Haloti Ngata? That man is in excellent shape and is considered one of the best (space-eating) DE in the league. I understand he is a unique player. But just because Cody is D linemen isn't a good excuse for him to be out of shape.

The only thing I'm saying is that he could be in better shape. I'm not saying anything against is talent or anything else. But if he can't pass the conditioning, how many downs is he going to have stamina to play? I understand he can still play and will still be effective.

I just expect him to be in shape better than what he is right now. He is a rookie and has plenty of time to learn. But seriously, I don't understand the argument for Cody is in shape. Because he isn't. He failed conditioning for a reason. And if you don't like it you can take it up with Mike Preston too

For nicknames, I still like former Raven Lional "Big Jelly" Dalton the best.

That's just wrong.......another reason why we shouldn't be calling him cheeseburger.

Keep in mind that it's the first few days of training camp, he has plenty of time to get into game-shape. That's why I, and everyone associated with the Ravens, am not concerned - even Mike Preston agrees. If he can't pass the test in September then, by all means, I'll be raising hell right along with you.

I can agree with that statement. If he's athletic now at 350 lbs, it will be fun to see how athletic he is slimmer.

Dude I don't think we're trying to slim him down too much. Also, he is in the same shape today that he was yesterday. He arrived to camp in "good shape" per Harbaugh, meaning cardiovascularly. You can bet your butt that he was running at home a lot in preparation. Cody said himself that he didn't know how to run the test properly. You need to have a strategy for this. He likely went out too fast on the early 150 yard reps (well under 35 seconds), when he should have maximized the time he was allotted. He didn't get into better shape overnight. Basically a 350 lb man had to cover 900 yards in 3 1/2 minutes. And that's not straight line 150s either, he had to stop, turn around, and run back every 25 yards. So drop the "out of shape" argument already.

And I hate the "cheeseburger" nickname also, almost as much as I hate the press who feel the need to report it.

Harbaugh also said they have a weight that they would like Cody to get down to. People can say it however they want but it isn't going to make me believe that Cody is in good shape. When his main problem at the combine and draft day was his weight, (at the combine he weighed 354 and showing up to training camp at 349, which is only 5 lbs, so his weight problem hadn't just magically disappeared) it just doesn't impress me.

This will not make or break a guys career. LeRon McClain was overweight at one point in his career, Ray ray told him to be a man and work hard, and now he is a pro bowler. But by no means am I going to be encouraged by Cody in this. I'm not trying to critize the guy. I'm just saying that I was a little disappointed when he showed up overweight or the fact that it didn't look like his body had changed at all since the combine.

I'm not saying slim the guy down to 260, but I'd like to see him replace some fat with muscle. Is that too crazy of a request?

Absolutely not too crazy. I want to see that too. I think he needs to be stronger. Can't remember his bench rep totals but I think they were under many of his peers at that position. Not sure on that though. Its gonna take a few years to transform a body type like that to one that is more Ngata-like. Hopefully he commits to the process. Camp will kick his butt for sure.

I also want to see Cody add some strength. He's got nice size but he needs that strength to keep blockers from getting t the linebackers. Cody did decline the bench press at the combine.

According to the AP. Cody did 22 reps @ 225 during his pro day. AP

I know that the top 12 performers at the combine all did over 31 reps. This includes guys like Brian Price, Everson Griffen, and Brandon Graham. Who are all his direct peers.

So there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to strength.
