From what I read in a Harbaugh quote is that he didn't complete a certain number of sprints in a certain period of time. Raises a question for me: wouldn't you inform a player of the baseline requirements to pass the conditioning test so that he may prepare in the weeks leading up to camp? If they did in fact provide this info and the player still failed the test, then I have a problem with that player's preparation.

One would think. Good point. Even if that is the case, I can't really be mad at Cody. Management knew that when we drafted him, he was going to be a project. I just hope he ends up being a successful one. I want Ngata and Cody to be the second coming of Goose and Adams.

Here's Dan Kolko of Masn's report on the situation with Harb quotes

That makes a lot of sense. It's for safety reasons for both guys, particularly Cody. If you can't handle doing some light drills to start off your day, then there's no reason to expect you to be able to keep up with the high tempo of practices in the heat as the day wears on.

Better to keep both guys out than have either one of them pass out from heat exhaustion or suffer a heat stroke.

And in terms of Cody, realistically, did anyone expect him to have his conditioning completely taken care of? We all saw the shape he was in throughout this past year, and though he's made significant improvements, he's still not where he needs to be to play at a high level for 16 games.

I dont feel comfortable if both of our second round picks are sitting out.
I highly doubt Cody will be sitting out for long. Like theFranchise said, did any one really expect this guy to be ready to endure intense drills from day one? He just needs some time to adjust.

I'm not too concerned; if you'll recall, Paul Kruger didn't do much last year as a second-round pick, and he didn't have a serious injury keeping him from seeing the field. The team got much more production from Lardarius Webb as a 3rd-rounder last year. The only downside, however, was that the rest of the Ravens' 2009 draft class was a wash except for Michael Oher in the 1st round and the aforementioned players.

This is a deeper crop of Ravens rookies by all counts, so no big reason to panic.

Good points.

As for Cody failing the conditioning test, Harbaugh said players struggle with it every year. Davon Drew relegated himself to the practice squad last season by failing.

I'm sure Cody will work hard to pass it before the rest of the team reports come Friday and be ready to work.

My only lament is that it seems like the writing on the wall when we drafted these guys has come to pass:

Kindle fell because of injury and judgement concerns. Cody fell because of conditioning concerns.

Training camp hasn't even started and Cody can't pass conditioning and Kindle takes a midnight swan dive down some stairs... Just blows.

I wouldn't worry about Cody so much, he'll get up to speed. Like Harbaugh said, there are guys every year that fail the conditioning test. Kindle does have a history of incidents, so that's more worrisome to me.

I thought Drew relegated himself to the practice squad because he wasnt good.

He was/is raw but the back-up TE position was up for grabs even with the signing of L.J. Smith.

Does anyone know what Cody's weight is down to? I would imagine this far into summer that he has to be around 335 lbs.

Baltimoresun said 349. Which would mean he didn't lose weight

Not overly concerned about this after Googling around about the NFL conditioning test. People fail it every year, only coaches don't always release the names of who did and who didn't. He'll pass it sooner or later and when he does we'll have a very scary world class athlete on our hands.

its not great news but adversity hopefully builds character and with lewis on that team cody gone soon learn that he isn't at bama any longer and learn what it means to be a professional and not eat yourself out the league

He has lost weight; probably not the amount some fans want to see but considering the lifting he's doing in conjunction with practice and conditioning, the 20 pounds he's lost since the Senior Bowl is significant.

The title to the topic is a little misleading. Cody and Harris did not pass their conditioning test which has absolutely nothing to do with passing their physicals.

As many have stated, I wouldnt get to worked up about this. By Friday hopefully both will pass and they can get down to business.

Perhaps the physical part of the title is refering to players like Washington and Webb. Those players which are coming off injuries still have to pass physicals in order to get off the PUP list.

You have go to be kidding me. This guy Cody shows up for his first day of NFL practice, and he looks like Fat Albert on steroids. I certainly hope they are not paying this guy, just to stand on the sidelines, eating cheeseburgers, and watch the other guys sweat their buns off. He has had the entire off season to get his weight under control, and he shows up looking like this, give me a freakin break, we need athletes not sumo wrestlers.

I'd take Fat Albert on steroids any day.

Now where's those cheeseburgers? :th_327321_Spy_23x22:

Cody's playing weight is supposed to be 350, and that is where he weighed in. Stop hyperventilating.

Nobody expects the guy to run back to back 40 sprints on the playing field. We didn't sign him to do that. Calm down.

Maybe the coaches thought that they would be rough on Cody to send a point a to him. What do you think happened when word got out that Cody failed the conditioning test? People talked about him, and he probably was a bit embarrassed.

I'm sure a fire has been lit under his but, and he'll be ready to go tomorrow. He doesn't want people to think of him in a bad light. So he'll work his *** off harder this camp.

As critical as I have been of Cody, I wouldn't ever say that of the man. You're giving off the impression that Cody just doesn't care about his weight, which isn't the case. I've said before, I'm not impressed with the man right now (his weight and conditioning was a major negative mark I had with him), but he's very committed to getting in playing condition, playing in the NFL, and making an impact. For that, I have to respect the man, he's got the heart and desire. I still have hope that in a few years, he'll be a monster nose tackle.

Cody failing his conditioning actually made it to Yahoo's main page, under the offensive (in my opinion) title "Terrence Cody deemed too tubby for Ravens training camp". The article goes on to quote Mike Preston from the Sun saying this is "a clear indication that Cody lacks discipline and is perhaps a sign of unshakable sloth". However, it then goes onto tell Raven fans to not be too worried because Cody has struggled with his weight his entire life. I'm glad Yahoo is here to tell us Raven fans not to worry about Cody. Regardless though, no one in the Ravens organization has ever said that Cody was "too tubby" to practice, and I find it offensive that they'd go out and say such a thing.

Regardless of whether or not it was ever said in the Ravens organization, even though the Ravens' fans know it was never uttered by our front office, people who aren't as knowledgeable to the Ravens organization might jump to the conclusion that it was actually said by someone affiliated with the team (which I don't particularly like). It's unprofessional in my opinion, it gives off a bad impression (not saying it's a major thing or not. Because in the bigger picture, it really isn't, but still), and could have been worded differently.

Full article is here on Yahoo Sports.

Gerry Sandusky did the test on the11pm news and it is
25 yard up and back 3 times in under 35 seconds.

do that 6 times w/ a minute and 10 second rest in between.

Cody did 3 runs.

Sandusky did 6 runs

It hurt me watching it

Awful start to camp really with the Kindle and Cody situations; and both seem to be the result of irresponsibility. Disappointing.

Seriously I had thought of this yesterday, and put it in nthe realm of possibility. Sounds like he came up real short however, if he only completed 3 runs out of, what, 6 or so?

This whole TO to the Bengals thing, combined with our rookies' struggles will hopefully take a lot of heat off us as far as media attention and perhaps make us the underdogs once again (by seasons start), a role which we seem to thrive on pretty well. This team will have to dig deep to win the division, though I say we do. None of the issues are on the offensive side of the ball, thankfully (knock on wood). Suggs/JJ/Barnes are key.
