Bengals "Very Close" to Signing Owens?

30 posts in this topic

According to TMZ, T.O. is about to dorn Bengal stripes:

http://www.tmz.com/2010/07/23/terrel...ract-deal-nfl/

Interesting to consider whether the Ravens are more affected by having to face T.O. twice a year or whether the Ravens would be more affected if T.O. would sign with a serious, potential playoff threat like N.E.

According to the National Football Post, there are two sources on both camps that say the rumor is false.

Yeah, just seeing that now, but also, Palmer and Owens have been working out together.

Palmer being impressed with Owens during workouts doesn't surprise me -- Owens is a phenomenal physical specimen, so it's expected that he'd look great in practice. But Mark Clayton has looked great in practice for the past few seasons, too, and look where he is now on the depth chart...

When the hell did TMZ start breaking sports stories?
When T.O. got his reality show.

If T.O. were to go to Cincy, it'd be hard to beat the reciever tandem, but I'd be willing to bet that they start beating themselves without chemistry. Think about it, OchoCinco, Owens, and Bryant are all three self centered players. How can they get along a full season??

It's an easy answer.....they can't.

Both guys like to showboat. Either they are going to have a great time doing wacky things together or they will have an uncomfortable time trying to outdo (&outperform) each other.

If Ocho keeps this up he'll petition himself right into the #3 spot.

How so? I'd take Chad Johnson over T.O or Bryant any day...

but it's no secret fact that Carson Palmer doesn't care for him too much.... and he'd have 2 other "pro bowl" caliber receivers to throw to

However, I doubt Palmer would sabotage (so to speak) his chances of winning games and making it to the Superbowl by "overlooking" Johnson just because he has an aged Owens and Bryant on the team as well.

On one hand, TO would be another capable receiver for the Ravens ... developing secondary to have to worry about, but on the other hand he might be able to totally destroy the team chemistry, so I'm not sure how I'd feel if they signed him.

But Mark Clayton is nowhere near as talented as Owens.

Wow I don't know when TMZ decided that they would be breaking nfl news but just because of them breaking the news I say it's false. Now for someone with real credibility in the NFL when it comes to breaking news, here is the latest on TO to Cincy from The Man, Adam Schefter:

From Adam's Twitter:
No deal for WR Terrell Owens is imminent, but his connections to Cincinnati continue growing.
Not sure where to put this but I figure since this was about TO, I would put it here. Bengals aren't the only team pursuing TO, according to PFT, The Rams are in "serious pursuit" of TO.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/24/rams-in-serious-pursuit-of-to/
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports, and we separately have confirmed, that the Rams are in "serious pursuit" of Terrell Owens.

The Bengals also are interested in Owens, and it's expected that the situation will heat up this week. Apparently, it already is.
So let's see Bengals and Rams are two teams going after TO, TO wants a contender which means the Bengals or any other team involved, but TO maybe better off going to St. Louis because of Cincy being stacked with Ocho and Bryant, in St. Louis he would be at the top of the depth chart and the # 1 target for Sam Bradford/AJ Feely.

Idk if I agree with that. I'm sure all three of them would realize that they aren't a one man show anymore should this signing happen. I still believe that TO is a better character than most of us on here think, and honestly if I'm the Bengals, I'd do everything in my power to get this deal done. Plus, the competition between them in training camp would be really really intense, and they'd probably earn each others respect.

Anything should be expected of Owens at this point, which is a statement that was justified by him signing with the Bills last season. Honestly, if he goes to the Rams, to me that would be a rather egotistical approach. He'd surely be the star there, although Jackson would be a close second, while signing with a so-called "contender" would be helping that team and it's fans try to reach glory. Him signing with a bad team already happened ONCE, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens TWICE, although it would be really stupid.

Hey if Buffalo was the only team he had an offer from, it was either sit out for the year and wait for an injury to happen for a team to sign him or go to Buffalo and play. Now obviously the Rams aren't the only team going after him since Cincy is interested as well, but according to ESPN the Rams are very interested in TO's services.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5407084
The St. Louis Rams have intensified discussions in hopes of signing free agent Terrell Owens, according to sources close to the player and team.

The Rams asked Owens through his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, if he would consider a serious contract proposal, even though they are not considered a playoff contender. Rosenhaus told the team Owens would definitely consider it, sources said. A high-ranking Rams official said a formal offer for Owens could come on Monday.

The Rams believe Owens would take heat off their young wide receiver corps that includes Donnie Avery, Laurent Robinson and rookie Mardy Gilyard, as well as loosen up opposing defenses from focusing on running back Steven Jackson.

One source said the Rams have gotten very aggressive in their pursuit of Owens and it's possible that Owens will sign with the Rams or Bengals within the next 48 to 72 hours.
Marvin Lewis seems to be pretty opposed to T.O though. I believe he said (I'm going off memory here) that he doesn't believe the Bengals need Owens, that their receivers are fine the way they are right now.

Bryant, Owens and Ocho scares the hell out of me- especially with our current secondary. I REALLY hope he does to the Rams instead..

That sounds like what Ozzie said last offseason.

Mike Brown seems to have a different opinion. http://twitter.com/CinBengalsNFL/statuses/19582686010
"It is up to him," Bengals owner Mike Brown said today at the team's annual training camp media luncheon Monday. "We have interest. We are talking to him."
TO did say that he wanted to be on a team that can contend...
