Cam Cameron

I was wondering about this topic for awhile now.
Before Cam became a coach of the Ravens our offense was dead last place.
After being our official offensive Coordinator 3 year plan we are now arguably a top 5 offense in the NFL. Do you guys think that Ozzie would be able to build an offense alone or did Cam's influence in offensive play calling help our situation out a great deal?
At one point Owens didn't want to come to Baltimore, but now guys like Boldin and Stallworth are knocking on our door step. Just maybe when Steve fired everyone and hired almost a whole new coaching staff that it may have been the right thing to do.

I'd like to wait a whole season before we can call our offense top 5 in the league. We still have the Colts, the Saints, the Patriots, the Packers and even the Vikings amongst others to work with. But I'm very happy that Cam joined the party. I think without him, we wouldn't be where we are today, and I'm sure he something to do with getting our WR core that we've wanted for so long. I love our coaching staff, and I'm beyond happy we haven't even given TO a tissue to cry on.

I'd say having a consistent starter at QB is the thing that put us on the map as far as attracting receivers; nobody wants to play on an offense where the field general's abilities and leadership are iffy. I mean, Boller was terrible, and McNair was just about out of gas when he came here; he was more of a stop-gap solution more than anything else (but a very good one nonetheless). With Flacco, we have a young, competent QB that can lead us for the next decade, and I think that having a QB that you can trust is a big influence in attracting receivers.

No offense to Cameron, but I would think a lot of the offensive upgrades are more due to Ozzie than Cameron.

Ozzie, as our GM, most likely has much more to do with drafting than Cameron, and most of our major offensive players right now are through the draft (Oher, Flacco, Rice, Gaither, Grubbs, etc.) and my guess is he would have more to do with FA's (Mason, Stallworth, and Birk).

Trades... I think Cameron may have a little more to do with that, but my bet would still be that Ozzie is the main contributer. Not to mention that last year, Cameron's play calling was terrible at times.

I bet Cameron had some influince, but I'd still say without him Ozzie could have done most of the things he has done for us.

We are still an unproven offense that is not top 5 right yet. But speaking to our improvement, it wasn't the incoming of Cam Cameron, it was the fact that we have had some good offensive draft picks.

Flacco, Rice, Gaither and Oher are our recent top draft picks, which has created an influx of talent. Credit is due moreso to Ozzie, for putting the players on the team.

Cam is doing a fine job and all, but he has had lapses in setting up gameplans for our offense. Getting Billick out of the offensive picture was a big turn in direction for us.

Well in Ozzie we trust because he built our defense and now he has our offense in line for us to score 30 plus a night to win games.

Cams play-calling last year killed me. I'll be more appreciative this year if our offense is a little more imaginative than "Run, run, pitch to Rice, run, throw to Mason, run, run, run...".

Fine, clayton had a below avg year but that strengthens my point even more.
All I'm saying is we didn't have that good of a receiving corp to rely on them rather then Rice,McClain and Willis the running game.

A guy who saw as many snaps he did shouldn't finish the year with 34 catches and 2 TDs. Clayton had a poor season in my opnion.

I do agree with your main point though.

Cam was just being a little cautious of his second year QB. Hopefully this year we should see more diverse play calling. But I agree with your post 100%.

I realize he had little to work with, but the choice of play (run vs pass) on each down and the routes for the receivers were so predictable that even I was guessing them right. There was no deception.

It is kind of amazing when you think about our offense just three short years ago.
How far we have come, and here we are taking another large leap forward.

I always think you need that balance to be successful between the coaching and players. While Cameron has been a big part of it, he hasn't been apart of it as much as Ozzie. Like mentioned above just look at the names of the players we've drafted.

I wouldn't go as far to call us a top 5 O, but I think we have a legitimate shot to be a top 10 offense this year.

While I respect Cam Cameron's exploits on offense especially in San Diego, I have still to see him replicate that kind of offensive production here at the Ravens. My sense is this year may be the year we see an explosion on offense that may classify us as a top 5 offense. Not yet though so I will be patient with my gratitude. Frankly with all the weapons we have on offense it would not be surprising, but will heavily depend on whether Flacco has Philip Rivers' capabilities. So the X factor will be Flacco's development really...
