i agree. ed has all the potential in th world....to even become the best safety in the history of the game. seems like he's cutting his career too short. gonna be an interesting matchup between hamlin and zibby for the starting spot

With all due respect to REED cause i think he is one of if not the best to play Safety; but he takes a lot of risks - lots of times they pay off and sometimes they don't - case in point - against Indy, he just the quick slant route and Washington got burnt to the outside corner for a TD.

I think Reed had a lot more to do with the way our secondary played towards the end of the season by what he was able to see on the sideline and his ability to "coach" what needed to be done. There was a huge improvement once he started watching from the sidelines, so if he has to do that again for the first 6 wks i don't see how that would hurt us one bit...

I agree that Reed took way too many risks this season but I think he felt some heat about his low interception numbers. It was not something I noticed in earlier seasons and was glaring last season.

While Zibby is not Reed right now, I think he has the potential. I would rather Reed take the time he needs now to get healthy. Give me a healthy Reed in October.

@ ibleedpurpleandblack: Good point. I didn't think about it like that. We actually might not give up as many big plays since Reed takes a lot of risks... Hmm. Definitely something to keep my eye on if Reed is in fact out at the start of the season.

Man Reed has been great for the team off and on. Reed take time to heal. It's your body that has to go through it.

IDK,
I don't blame Ozzie for not redoing a contract at this time especially since Reed can't say what kind of condition he will come back in or if he will miss a 3rd of the season. He is in his 30's now and has 2 injuries he's trying to come back from.
I too think Ed was a beast 2 years ago although it really ticks me off when he tosses the ball to another player when the game isn't in the last 2 minutes or on the line but I too hate to see his career go the way it's going.
I just hope he can heal, come back and enjoy this season. He deserves to be here for it but by the same token, this is a business for them and he is in no position to play games. Do you want to play or not? The Ravens front office has always shown they won't bend to the will of any player barring R.Lewis.
This is a team sport and Ozzie and co. will always do what's best for the team.
I think Ed is starting to worry with all the young blood here now that he sees that his days are numbered and he wants some security. I don't blame him but I also don't blame the front office for not throwing money at him.
It's got to be tough for both sides and I for one am glad I only watch them play and don't have to deal with the front office stuff!

I don't think him being on the field changes our chances of winning or losing that much.

Really? I think we need DarkLight to chime in with her favorite statistic!

Tom Zbikowski is a college graduate, an accomplished boxer, and a ready to break out NFL star. Why do people insist on calling him Zibby? Give this grown man some respect and call him Tommy Z if you don't want to take a minute to find out how to pronounce his name. Zibby sounds like a Pop Warner football player. Zibby sounds like Ziggy's retarded brother. TOM ZBIKOWSKI (zib-cow-ski) is his name. Until he holds a press conference saying he wants to be called Z-Sizzle, or anything else, show the man a little respect.

Ed is a HOF safety in my book and I hate the fact he won't be back come the start of the season. But he took way too long to make the decision to come back and have the surgery. I don't expect the team to suffer immensely while he's recovering so it's best for him to take advantage of his time off and heal fully.

Somebody tell Nate to lighten up.

Lol. I think Nate is Zibby. How do you know he doesn't love the nick-name? Enlighten us O' Enraged One.

Let's see, his fellow teamates including Ed Reed call him Zibby. Are you his mother? Maybe his agent? No...you're not. It's not like we're calling him champ or buckaroo, maybe he's had that nickname since he was a kid. Take ten deep breaths and go smoke something.
