i really think this guy could be great. you have to look out for this guy this year. i mean learning under ray lewis and he had a solid rookie year starting only 3 games. this guy plays very well in space and can tackle really well.its gonna be a battle between him and gooden in training camp but i think hes gonna come out on top

Dannell's probably the most consistent hard hitter on the team. Especially when near the sideline, if he gets a chance one on one, he makes the tackle and does it with authority. A lot of guys miss a tackle going for the big hit, but he never seems to.

... have you heard of Ray Lewis? It's a HUGE stretch to say Ellerbe is the most consistent tackler on the team over veterans like Ray, Suggs, and Johnson.

I love Ellerbe- I think he's an excellent jack ILB. I'd like to see Gooden improve his coverage even further and take over for him on 3rd downs. But Ellerbe is a bruiser and a fearless tackler he definitely fits into our defense.

I think Ellerbe was a great compliment to Ray inside last season. I especially like him against the run where he seems to have the same mean streak as Ray.

When he brought AP down I was flying out of my seat. He hit him then held on to his leg until he came down. He did not give up on the play until it was over. If this guy could hone his skills these next 2 or 3 years, hes either going to attempt to fill Rays shoes at ILB or perfectly compliment whomever takes over for Ray

I liked his tackle on Peterson too. He swooped in and brought him down with textbook tackle.

Ellerbe did play well last year, plus it would seem that he's more likely to stay healthy than Gooden. If we could develop both I would be happy, but right now I think Ellerbe has the upper hand.

lol 15 years, that would be nice though. Ellerbe is a very good tackler already at such a young age and has only minimal experience. He may not be a Ray Lewis, and we're not asking him to be, since that is impossible; but he's gonna be a top 5-10 linebacker before long, and if he continues to shine, he'll be a top 5. Most young ILB's are kinda lackluster in pass coverage, just look at Patrick Willis, who has since improved into a top 2 linebacker (some would put him over Lewis, but I have too much respect for Ray to do so).

As for Gooden, I'd love to see him stay healthy and actually improve, because he's from Miami U, same school as Ray and Ed. But we'll have to see for that one.

Like I said, he consistently gets the hard hits, not that he's the most consistent tackler. Ray gets the biggest hits, and the most tackles, but plenty in traffic or running a guy down from behind. Dannell gets more in the open field, and lays a lick on almost every single one he gets.

A lot of people think of Gooden as an underachieving super athlete, and Ellerbe as an overachieving average athlete. I'm not sure, though, if you look at his interception return against the Raiders, he was running past all his defensive blockers, and put an awesome juke on a Raider. He's faster and more agile than people think.

Was is Gooden that ran down AP on the sideline last year? That was NICE! only good play of his all year though. Ellerbe had some excellent stops

The game against the Vikings when he brought down All Day down in open field more than once was when I realized that this kid could be something. He was the one who put AP put of the game for a little while and had that minor ankle injury.

I really want to see the progression he made over the offseason. He was just a rookie and he was playing that well last year. I was really impressed. I'd like to see how much he improved. Hopefully he can develop a pass coverage ability. But I really think it's easier for a linebacker to develop good pass coverage ability over develop pass rushing ability or being a good run stopper. Takes more natural ability to get to the rb or qb imo.

I think this guy will be replacement for Bart Scott was a thumper on defense.
Scott has already been replaced. It's no coincidence the Ravens stopped getting gashed on the ground when Ellerbe won the starting ILB spot beside Ray.

I think Ellerbe is an excellent young LB. He's aggressive and a solid tackler. He's perfect for the Jack role. I'm not sure who should take over the Mike role when *god forbid* Ray Ray retires. Gooden might be a good fit for the role as he's athletically gifted and decent in coverage. It might be a good idea to first see how Jason Phillips progresses.

I like Ellerbe too. If he can improve his play in pass coverage, he could become Pro Bowl-caliber.

little more effort from him and he might start
He started last year and was solid. I'd like to see Gooden or Phillips push him but the former is small and the latter is an unknown in the NFL.
