I'm Not Liking All The Hype

35 posts in this topic

Me neither! It makes me queasy all this hype. We have a ton of tough games lined up and I am in a watch and see mode right now. Also, I have a strong sense our season goes up or down with the Jets game - we win the first means we win at least 11 games and win the North - if not we struggle to make a wild card berth all over again.
I want to be so badly wrong on this hunch it is not even funny!

I have to agree with the topic creator, it's still one game at a time and nobody should be talking Superbowl yet. Theres nothing worse than being the paper champs and then coming up short.

Traditionally this team performs best when it has been tagged as the underdog or flying under the radar.

You know what? Not to point you out specifically PurpleChaos, but I am sick and freaking tired of hearing this line. This is akin to saying if you step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back. It's B.S. The Ravens play the way the Ravens play, on any given Sunday. It doesn't matter if they're underdogs, it doesn't matter if they've got the acclaim of the Patriots, they play the same. They don't play better if they're underdogs, some fans have just clung onto this idiotic myth since our one and only Superbowl win. You know what? We've been underdogs PLENTY of times since then and we haven't gone back. It has nothing to do with this. NOTHING.

In my opinion we are being underhyped. Placing 7th in fan polls and having experts trash our 8th rated pass defense isn't that great of hype. People noticed we have gotten better but the only Ravens Super Bowl predictions I've heard from the most part are from Ravens fans.

But I would be all for a fine on the "p" word like we did back in 2000, to stop the "hype" from getting to our players.

I don't understand that either. If it's on guys' minds, then you know they're talking about it. Maybe not in the press, but behind closed doors they've gotta be excited. Not saying a certain word in the press isn't going to stifle how exciting it's gotta be to know that if you just win one or two more games, you're going to the playoffs. Wouldn't that make them play harder?
