IDP Discussion

11 posts in this topic

Seeing as the league I started will feature IDPs (Individual Defensive Player) and some aren't familiar with the format, I decided to create a league where we can discuss players to target and answer questions regarding IDP leagues.

To kick things off, here's an article I found on Pro Football Weekly regarding IDP sleepers (notice the first guy mentioned):

I think Clay Matthews will have a big year for the Pack... he's one of those guys you like having in IDP leagues b/c he does it all.. tackles, sacks, INTs, FF/FRs, etc

I could see Matthews improving upon last year's numbers but the 10 sacks aside, nothing he did was overly impressive last season.

How many slots are there for each team's IDP's??
There will be 6 IDP slots; 4 normal slots where you can play anyone and 2 slots specifically for DBs.

Not that I don't want you to join it but I just invited a guy who wanted to join a while back a personal message. If he doesn't get back to me by this time next week, would you be fine with joining then?

I played ALL of last season with a 'floating' defense. I mean, I had 5 different D's, and it isn't unheard of for someone to have 10 different D's in one year OF course not on the same team at the same time. You play week to week matchups, and you can do this for Kickers as well. If your D is facing the Colts, and a mediocore D is facing the Browns, who do you pick?? The one facing the Browns, as you won't lose any points, and may gain quite a few, while the one going against the Colts will ultimately get shredded, just look at the Jets in the playoff game against the Colts. But as for IDP's, you should really try to at least get a few before getting a team D. An opponent I faced last year chose the Steelers D in the 3rd round, and tried trading them to me, but I laughed in their face at the idea. He finally dropped them in the week Polamalu got hurt. And, gulp should I tell this?? I picked them up...... But oh well. If Patrick Willis, Jon Beason, Jared Allen, or even Mario Williams is available I say pick them up in a heartbeat, as long as your Offensive holes have been filled.

What is better drafting a team D first or IDP's??
T-Ray covered it pretty well.

It's really up to you when you want to draft IDPs but some elite options end up outproducing RB3s.
