Pennsylvania Not Good Enough In The Summer

25 posts in this topic

Theres thousands of Steeler fans in Ocean City right now. Took a cruise down coastal highway with all my Ravens flags on my SUV. Got many #1 Fingers. I just smile, they leave PA to Vacation in Maryland, all those PA license Plates. Went in Walmart with my Rice Jersey, saw 3 Kordell Stewarts in black and Yellow walking around . Many Eagles fans too, but no Problems from them.

Ah Steelers fans are Steelers fans no matter where they are.

When I'm at home, I get that kind of attitude just about every day.

PA drivers are fine, Ohio drivers are the horrible ones.

Nope sorry....I am going to offend most of the folks on the boards by saying this but this is my experience

the worst most self-centered drivers ever come from the states of Massachusetts and Maryland.

I'm originally from Delaware, and I can tell you the non-patrolled areas of the Eastern Shore of Maryland are Speed Racer in pick-up trucks. On that note, California pedestrians are the greatest hazard to road travel I've ever come across, followed closely by New Jersey in general.

Um, we here in South/Central Florida have to deal with the highest concentration of blue-haired old ladies possible. Road rage is a daily occurrence.

That's one thing I do like about the Jersey Shore...mostly Eagles fans.
One thing both Ravens and Eagles fans can agree on= hatred of the Steelers.

Plus, Ocean City IS more redneck than Avalon, Stone Harbor, Cape May, NJ FWIW. :P

Massachusetts is far worse than Maryland, and I've spent much more time in Maryland than MA.

I feared for my life every time I got in a car up there, not because of the driver I was with, but because of other drivers. I've noticed this trend up there where people tend not to look or yield before turning, and there's a complete disregard for most stop signs. Additionally, tailgating is to be expected, and people don't use their turn signals. This stuff just blew my mind. So many near-accidents that were avoided just because of good ol' defensive driving, thankfully...

I do the 'speed up, slow down' thing with tailgaters (assuming it's not ridiculously dangerous to do so. Eventually they just figure it out and go around.

Like the Steelers, hate OCMD. Dirty beaches, cloudy water, obnoxious drunks at night/loud fart can cars during the day,...

OCMD was fun when I was a kid= senior week. Now it is more of a week-long annoyance than anything. I just don't get the fascination with OCMD.

So your default is to attack it as 'red neck'? To each his own I guess...

Maybe the Kordell Stewart jerseys were for celebrating the 3 games he played for as a Raven.

Right on! I've lived in Baltimore, OCMD, Jersey, NYC, and now Philly. Everywhere you go, they say the surrounding states are the worst drivers. My take, having lived in all of them is that it's just different understood nuances about driving in each state. NJ drivers understand and expect certain things from other NJ drivers; when PA drivers are in Jersey they drive differently and it causes problems. Same goes for the opposite; when Jersey drivers are in PA they don't drive the same and put a wrench in the flow of traffic.

No matter where you go, it's some other state's drivers that are the worst, and in each case it's true.

And on hating OCMD... shame on you! I've had a house there since I was born, and with moving around so much it's been about the only consistent residence in my life... it's home away from home. While I will agree as somewhat of a local that during the summer months it can be quite annoying when tourists come and act as if they own the place; you can't hate OCMD for it. To say the beaches and water are dirty is ridiculous. Compared to the only other beach close enough to vacation at several times a summer (the Jersey beaches), OCMD is a paradise. Besides, Jersey makes you pay just to step on the sand; that's BS! OCMD has cleaner water and sand, is free, has bigger waves, has more to do, and isnt overrun by fist-pumping, blowout haircut Jersey Italians (many of whom I grew up with and went to HS with).

Without traveling to the Carolina's and south, the Gulf Coast, or the Pacific goin' downey ocean is the best thing to do in the summer. One summer I worked at the Dough Roller near the inlet and STILL had a great summer... now that's saying something!

I know, and I hate it. However, to be fair, it's mostly my area of the state than the state itself. The summers are too hot (for my tastes), the winters are too cold with way too much snow, many good concerts do not come around here. Boooring.

Oh, and it's home to the Steelers ;)

Completely agreeable, Ocean City MD is so much better than any Jersey beaches. Also, The combination of Ocean City, MD and the neighboring beach towns in Delaware are a great combination. I'm 25, so I tend to stay in Dewey, De simply because my FAVORITE watering holes are there ( Rusty Rudder, Starboard, Bottle and Cork ect..) and for the most part the people are all around the 21-35 age range. But when I'm actually looking for something to do during the day it's off to O.C!!! The boardwalk is something you just HAVE to do no matter how many times you've walked it from start to end and back! Actually the beaches here are a big part of why I don't like the Idea of leaving the area.

Now on to driving..lol (i can talk about the beach for hours) at my previous job I had to drive from North Jersey, North Eastern PA, Central PA, MD, DE, and Virginia as far down as Norfolk..on a daily basis. I'll have to say that my least favorite areas for traffic are

-I95 N just past Philly Intl..SUCKS (stuck there TODAY in 100 plus heat)

476 N around conshohocken

95 south in Delaware in the afternoon

route 40 in Delaware in the afternoon

route 1 and 13 south in DE on a Dover race weekend
