Packers Johnny Jolly Suspended For Entire 2010 Season

15 posts in this topic

It was only a matter of time before Jolly was addressed by Goodell. Apparently, after his latest drug charge (possession of codeine, 200 grams to be exact), Jolly won't be playing for the upcoming season (without pay), and could be suspended even longer. I am honestly surprised it took Goodell this long to suspend Jolly, since the arrest mentioned took play back in 2008. In my opinion, I don't see it as a huge blow to Green Bay, although it's hard on your team whenever you lose a starter for an extended amount of time.

What a shame, I mean I know this happened back in 2008 but the NFL shield is about to be knocked down if more players get in trouble, this is the worst off-season when it comes to players getting in trouble. From what I read the Packers are going to move Ryan Pickett over to DE to take Jolly's spot and BJ Raji will become the Nose Tackle.

Well I'm assuming that the NFL obviously doesn't do drug test for codeine. Otherwise why would he have it.

I don't think anyone really tests for codeine. If they did, anyone who took some of the stronger cough medicine just for medicinal purposes would fail.

Exactly what I was thinking which is why they wouldn't be able to test for something like that. I just think it's stupid that these guys are having to turn to unnatural substances to use for painkillers...

EDIT - for anyone who doesn't think this is a big deal you must not realize how much 200grams is, that's almost HALF A POUND of codeine.

Very true. I wonder how much Codeine JaMarcus Russell had when he got pinned with it a few weeks ago. I can't remember if the article mentioned lol

When you consider a normal dose of tylenol with codeine is 60mg every 6 hours or so (2 tablets), 790mg is a lethal dose-- and he had 2000mg, If he took all that he would not poop for a year if he did not die first.
With codeine you pop positive for opiates, same as if you take lortab or vicodan.

And before you ask:

I'm not a druggie but a nurse.

Haha, so is my girlfriend. She told me essentially the same thing when I told her how much Codeine he was pinned with.

I think he has more to worry about than his NFL suspension. By the sound of it, he'll be going to the poker for a while.

I agree it's not looking good. Imagine if Roger was doing nothing to address these issues.

I agree with you BW. If Goodell wasn't addressing it at all, then things would become much worse. I think before all is said and done, that the NFL will have no choice but to get drastic, with consideration to their personal conduct and banned substances policies, and remove these players from the league for good. That's the only way to eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) these problems from occurring to begin with!
