If You Could Have One Player

36 posts in this topic

If there was one player from any time or place to help our team right now, who would you chose.

My two choices would either be Charles Woodson from 2001 or a Deacon Jones or the LA Rams from either 1964 or 67 (when he posted 22 and 21 sacks).

So any player ever, LeBron counts, who should it be?

Okay I agree, but even without that he would make it. He was overweight and fast, like if Suggs was good last year x10.

The Secretary of Defense was an intimidator. The reason Cleaveland is called the Browns is because or what Deacon did to their QB if you catch my drift.

lol caught your drift and also caught the C'leave'land part also haha.

Offensively, Jerry Rice. No one comes close to his production on the field. And he still did decent when he was up there in age.

Defensively, I'd have to go with L.T. He was a phenomenal athlete, and he made offensive coordinators gameplan for just him, literally.

These players you listed, RayZ, aren't even on top of their positions today (with the exception of Revis, which an argument could be made for Aso here), let alone yesterday's elite players. If you want a reciever, look no farther than Jerry Rice. If you want a corner, look no further than Deion Sanders. If you want a pass rushing linebacker, then L.T. is your man.

However, if you're looking at today's top players at reciever, then Andre Johnson is your man. If you're searching for a corner, Aso. Pass rushing linebacker (OLB)- Ware.

defensively- LT
offensively- Barry Sanders
[/quote]

Well that's funny. We already have a better LT handling the defense who is probably one of the best MLB's ever, as well as young stud who has the potential to be like Barry Sanders.

@Ray Z I'm sorry but DeSean Jackson, I won't even take him in the second round of my fantasy draft, why would I take him 1st overall of any player ever.

@T-Ray For Deion Sanders, many would argue Ronnie Lott, Charles Woodson, or Revis over him. Just sayin.

Apparently we have a lot of Lawrence Taylor lovers on this forum, but to the person that said he is a beast MLB, you are simply wrong. Not only are MLB's never pass rush specialists, but he was an OLB. What MLB (that starts anyway) is a pass rush specialist?

I'm a little suprised Deacon isn't getting any love though.

@K-Dog .......... Really dude?

I wouldn't mind to see Joshua Cribbs on the roster. What a return threat we would be, already the #1 special teams in the league. Plus him at WR, we'd have Boldin, Mason, Stallworth, and Cribbs.

Is Charles Woodson your brother? He was a great player, but hardly an all timer. How does his 2001 season become a top two all time pick?

Dude are you serious, I would agree if you said a little bit of a reach, but Charles Woodson is a straight monster. There are so many reasons why I would take him...

1) Athletes get better every year. No one knows if the old greats would be as good now. I did pick Deacon, but he literally invented the word sack and was straight nasty, he was extremely fast for an overweight DE. Even Jerry Rice might have trouble keeping up with Andre Johnson due to how the league has excelled. I'm not saying he necessarily would, but there is no doubt today people are fast and stronger than in the old days.

2) Cornerback is the only real need on our team. I said to add to our team now, and a CB would be very helpful. Thats also why I put Deacon, right now aside from CB, Redding is the weak link (or maybe Ellerbee, but I would prefer him because he is the future and has mass potential)on our team so I would love Deacon to replace him.

3) Some would say last season was his best because he got DPOY, and even if it was, I wouldnt want him because now he only has a few seasons left, while back then he went All-Pro and was still a beast with at least 10 years left in his career.

4) Woodson is a beast.

5) Woodson isn't one of those great players who keeps their mouth shut, has a bad personality, or has no leadership skills. He is a vocal leader of an amazing defense and one of the main reasons I think the Pack have a good shot to make the Super Bowl.

So are you really sure he isn't that great. Who are you picking anyways?

Deion Sanders did a whole lot more than Charles Woodson has done. He could play both sides of the ball, be a lockdown corner, or just a free roaming corner looking to intercept a ball. As far as I'm concerned, all Woodson does is keep recievers locked down and INT a Qb who is stupid enough to throw it his way. As far as Revis, are we really gonna put a single season over someone who had multiple BETTER seasons?? No way, Jose. Ronnie Lott is the only corner I'd put over Deion.

My knee jerk answer was L.T....but I think Rod Woodson or Deion in their prime would pretty much complete our team. I dunno, anyone of those three works for me.

I agree that Deon is better, I'm just saying that those guys are in the discussion with Deon, you can't really say no one is on his level.

And for what you said about Woodson, thats what he is best at, coverage. If I wanted a safety/corner hybrid Deon all the way.

Like I said I like the Deon pick, Im just saying there people at least close to his greatness.

Gotta love that Prime Time

Oh and one thing I forgot to mention, the fact that he left Football for Baseball kinda makes me question his dedication and love of the game. You know if someone like Ray Ray had that oppurtunity he would stay a Raven.

But wait a minute, didn't MJ leave basketball for baseball too?? Does anyone question his love for that game?? And what about Bo Jackson??

Personally, that is one thing I look down upon in MJ's career. Luckily for him, basketball is more of a individual sport than football. If you have one individual who is a beast on a basketball team, you can get by (Like the Cavs with LeBron before Mo Williams and Antwan Jamison). You only need to look as far as the Rams (Steven Jackson and/or Marc Bulger) to see that doesnt work as well in football.Basketball is more like individuals playing with each other while football is like one individual, one unit, of men. He left basketball for baseball, and then left because he realized he sucked. He was a great basketball player, but for that reason I would chose another great like Kobe, Magic Johnson, or Wilt Chamberlin, with my pick of best player to be on my team. Not to mention the fact that in Prime Time's case, the team would have him for less time than Charles Woodson because Sanders left the league for baseball, and I'd rather take Woodson for 10 years than Sanders for 5.

Now as for Bo Jackson, why even bring him up. He obviously had no love for the game football as compared to the game of baseball. He would have played for the Bucs, but they gave him an ultimatum, baseball or football, he chose baseball.

Than when the Raiders signed him, he still only played part time due to his baseball career. He played more baseball than football in his professional sports career, and even mentioning Bo Jackson as one of the greats at runningback is a crime considering he only played part-time and rushed for less than 3,000 yards.

Please.

On "D" I would have to go with Ronnie Lott, although our roughing penalties would go up considerably.

I might be showing my age on this one but, on the "O" I would have to go with Raymond Berry. The guy just simply caught everything and was a huge contributor to making John U. so great! He would make Welker look incompetent, during the same era.

Personally, I'd have to stick with current players for this question. The game has changed so much...who can tell how well or not well the old greats would be able to perform today?

That said: Defense, yeah give me Troy P. from the hated Steelers. Imagine...Ray Lewis, Troy P. and a healthy Ed Reed. Offenses would be scared to death to put the ball in the air.

Instead of a new player can we just take 8 years off Ray and Ed? Or can we just clone Ngata?

If not then I'll take Revis. I haven't really seen many of the old players like Lott and Unitas so I won't pick one of them. Revis is the best corner I've ever seen and corner is our most questionable position. But if we had Revis we'd be nearly invincible, especially if Webb develops into a very good corner(and I think he will).

My second choice would be a Reggie White to play along with Ngata and Cody. That would be unstoppable.

Ronnie Lott had some All-Pro seasons at CB but there are a good number of CBs I'd take before him.
