Ravens Fans In Austin Texas

14 posts in this topic

I recently moved to Austin, Texas from Maryland and I was wondering if there are any other Ravens fans down here, all the Cowboy fans look at me funny when I tell them I'm a Ravens fan. There has got to be a few of you at least, right? Where do you watch the games?

thanks,

Kurt

I live on the East side of Austin over on Riverside. I normally watch the games over at Third Base, which is a bar on West 6th street. There is a Ravens bar somewhere downtown though. I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. I know the Ravens bar watches the game upstairs though, I want to say its on 12th or 13th street. If I think of the name I will post it on here.

Kurt and FlaccosFlock-

Ravens Nest 512 (It's unofficial, but its what we call ourselves) meet at The Tavern at 12th & Lamar on game days. We meet upstairs and we have taken over an entire area up there. We have brought in so much business, the owner lets us fly a Ravens flag from the front upstairs balcony, and they have reserved the upstairs area for US. Depending on who we are playing, and when, we have anywhere between 15 to 60 Raven Maniacs, usually in jerseys or tees or caps. Heck, we even had Ravens Nest 512 tee shirts made last year. We will be at every game this year, except when a flock of us make the trek to Houston (again) to watch the Ravens beat the snot out of the Texans. (Again.)

Watch the games with us and be part of the largest Ravens fan club in Austin, TX.

I'll be there! Any chance they carry the pre-season games?

No, they don't, although the bar owner wishes they did. Hell, he even went so far as to put in 3 more large screen TVs for us. All Ravens- All the Time.

I second that. The Tavern on Lamar is THE place to watch Ravens games in Austin. It's almost like home.

I was a regular at the Tavern until yesterday and have seen you guys in action there multiple times. Thought you should know that yesterday the new owners and manager fired two of the bartenders for getting tipped too much. That's right, they compared the guys' overall sales and total tips and determined that since they got tipped better than the other bartenders, they must be giving away drinks in exchange for higher tips. Never mind that the two had been working there for 8 years, had tons of regulars, and were well-known and liked in the Austin service industry. Apparently none of that factored into their tips, they were presumed to be thieves.

The reason I registered here and am posting this is because one of them was my friend Beau, who waited on you guys on Sundays for the last couple of seasons. He got this assignment by request, as the place was getting overrun with Steelers fans. I know you guys have a really good setup there, and given the crowds you draw you probably wouldn't join my boycott, but I'd like to encourage you to at least consider finding a different location for game watching. You might contact Shoal Creek Saloon just down the street, where Beau also works. They're most definitely a Saints bar (owners are from Louisiana), but there's a ton of space there and they might hook you up with a dedicated area, given the number of people you have...

I have heard this same nasty rumor about the Tavern.
I know someone that wants to start a new Raven's Nest at Bar 96 on Rainy Street. He lives in the Baltimore House across the street from Bar 96(Baltimore Ballers snowball stand is his gig). They have many screens and he already has one reserved. His ambition is to make Austin the number one Raven's fan city outside of Baltimore metro area.
I know it would be next to impossible to get the whole lot of Raven's fans to up and relocate bars, but if The Tavern is going to treat thier employees like that then a boycott might be worth a try.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I'm sure I'll be in Austin for a few games this year, my gf lives like 25 miles away from there in Bastrop right off 71. I'll be up for going to Bar96, never been there before whats the crowd like? I'm 26 years old but I'm not one of the punk younger guys that looks for trouble or looks dumb after drinking 2 beers (takes me 3 j/k). I looked at the website and liked what I seen. PM me on what locations ravens fans will be at b/c i don't wanna look like an idiot being the only Ravens fan

Ravens Nest 512 in Austin, TX...

We miss Beau (or Bo) too. He got tipped well because he served well.
