Wow a 17 year deal hahaha what the heck is NJ thinking!?!? Kovalchuk and his agent sure did as much milking as they possibly can. They will not be successful unless they put the right pieces around him, because he likes to be the show when he plays and that's not the way NJ plays which is a reason why they struggled so much since they had him. I truly believe that this is a bad move for them and it will bring the organization down.

As for the Southeast it's about darn time that that division got somewhat a little competitive. Stevie Y will turn that organization around, Tampa will only get better and better I think. Philly is just stockpiling on defense big time.

There is an article on NHL.com that says Sharp will be staying put in Chicago.

Argh -_- We might not be able to sleep walk to the top of the division again.

Well I sure hope not! It's going to be an entertaining race though!

Flyers have traded Simon Gagne to Tampa Bay for Matt Walker and a 4th round pick

Ugh... I'm beginning to hate my team's management and their decisions all over again...

I really really am feeling the hate rise again...

I think that they feel they have enough Offensive talent between Richards, Carter, Briere,Giroux,Leino, Zherdev. So they seem to be stockpiling on Defense because there really weren't any noteworthy Goalies that they could make a realistic play for.

That being said, I'm sure going to miss Gagne so I hope this deal is for the better because I have a feeling that the Philly crowd isn't going to be too happy if they traded away Gags for no reason

I like the move as it will clear up cap space for Philly and Gagne has been declining the past few years.

Kovalchuk's deal is going to an arbitrator.

For me, the whole Kovalchuk deal is what gets my attention. I would like to ask the GM in New Jersey, "What were you thinking?" I mean, this is over their cap, and it doesn't make sense to bankrupt your whole franchise just to keep a player such as this.

Also, the note that Stevie Y is now GM at Tampa Bay. This may just make the Southeast Division competitive, but don't count out the Capitals - or the Hurricanes. I am now expecting something big from those two teams.

You can count on San Jose finally winning the Stanley Cup this year... Gettin rid of Nabby almost made me cry but we are set for another run, and the Blackhawks won't get by us this time.

I wouldn't really call the deal bankrupting because if you do the math of the original deal of 102 over 17 years that is only a cap it of 6 million each year. The only debacle is that New Jersey would be handcuffed paying that cap in the last 10 years of his contract (when Ilya is 35 and older) because he could retire at 35 yet NJ would still have to pay him and take a cap hit of 6 mill a year. I would call the move more risky than bankrupting.

No one is counting out the Captials for the southeast because they are basically a lock already to win the division because it's so sad. There is 1 great hockey club surrounded by 4 mediocre clubs in that division. I do expect all 4 of those teams to do better this year though as they all have made moves.

My Flames are looking like they have a better shot than they did last year. While many fans are decrying the resigning of Jokinen, I think he is a better player than he was allowed to be, as he was asked to be a playmaking center and feed Iggy. Not his game. At all. He is a sniper, and has hit 91 points in his career. I think that the addition (re-addition, if you will) of Tanguay will be the saving grace. Tanguay is not a shooter,he is a set up man. Now you can have Joker playing his game, with Tanguay feeding both he and Iggy. This could be aeither a brilliant move, or it can explode in the GM's face and he will be fired by December. Time will tell.

Has anyone here been thinking of going to see the Caps n Pens at Heinz Field for the winter classic. Since I didn't have a slim chance in he double hockey sticks to get tickets to see the Ravens I've been considering going to Pittsburgh to see this game.

"We played our (Winter Classic) on the road and to have our fans here and we expect Washington fans here too, but we hope to be the majority. We'll be excited. This, like I said, is an opportunity that guys appreciate. Only a couple of teams get to do this every year. To be at home and to feel this excitement, it's going to be a lot of fun." -- Sidney Crosby

I have thought about it. But going into Pittsburgh and rooting for the Caps, might not be the best thing...health-wise.

The one thing I've learned about going to games in Pittsburgh as a fan of the opposing team:

safety in numbers, just in case.

The Capitals traded Stefan Della Rover for DJ King (who told Max Talbot to shut up).
Oh right, is that the guy that scored the lead and game winning goal against Detroit in game 7?

It is quite funny that he couldn't even make the 30yard wrist shot when they we're doing hockey type field goals. Crosby almost nailed a 75 yarder. Talbot went a perfect 0 for 7 haha.

Talbot has some words to fuel the fire about Ovie. Geno introduces Talbot to Ovie and I guess it didn't go to well.

NY Islanders fan here! I wish we could trade John Tavares.

What are you doing as an Islander fan?

What do you mean? I can't be an islander fan? I would never be a Rangers fan, and plus Islanders have just been a favorite of mine since they drafted Okposo.

I'm a fan of Okposo too but why on Earth would you want to get rid of John Tavares? Getting rid of a young talent of that caliber this early in his career would be absurd. Who would you expect Okposo to play with if Tavares wasn't there.

It's Pittsburgh though. they are all bark and no bite. Plus most of them would have a heart attack if they even thought about doing anything.

I have ran into a lot of Steeler/Peng fans in my day and none of them have gotten the best of me.

Does anyone give the Red Wings a chance to make the playoffs for 2010-11? I know that the team has gotten older, but i have to wonder if the Wings can make it this time 'round, as I'm originally from the Detroit area.

Also, does anybody give the Maple Leafs a chance for the playoffs? I know they may not win the Stanley Cup this coming season, even though the Leafs have now gone the longest since winning it back in 1967, with their team know as the "Old Folks", but is there any chance for the Leafs to make it to the playoffs this season?

Just wondering.

The Wings ALWAYS have a chance to make the playoffs, it's Detroit it's what they do man. The Maple Buddies though have as much chance to make the playoffs as hell does freezing over.

Question #1- Yes, I'd bet any amount of money that the Red Wings will make the playoffs this year, and have home ice advantage in at least the first series.

Question #2- Not a chance in hell that the Leafs make the playoffs. Ever since about 2004 they have been on a nasty decline and it doesn't look like that have really done anything to re-build either. Plus being in a division with Ottawa, Montreal, and Boston (3 great regular season teams) doesn't help much either

"Edmonton Oilers' goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was convicted Friday of three charges related to drunk driving and speeding in Arizona earlier this year."

Looks like the bulin wall ran into a bit of trouble down in Arizona. He's looking up to 6 months in jail.

The Penguins have also signed Aaron Asham to a one year deal. I love this signing as it brings a lot of toughness to our lineup, and he's a decent player.
