Outer Banks, NC.
Tampa, FL (More accurately, St. Pete and more accurately than that, Pass-A-Grille Beach).
St. Lucia.
New Orleans.

Not necessarily in that order.

I can see why people would want to vacation on the southern Outer Banks. It's right purty down here.

As for my own personal vacations? As much as I'm loving being on the beach, give me mountains and mountain lakes.

Heaven on earth for fishing and diving and watching water spouts--it is right on the reef.

What about food and night life?

We stayed in a resort so everything was there. There are tons of hotel bars. We stay at the Islander and they had the best food... My tummy is rumbling at the thought of their seafood medley and Pina Colada's.
The real night life is in Key West.

We had the kids with us so no real night life/bars. There is a lot of night life in Key Largo.

We're meeting my buddy and his wife down there. Another buddy is loaning us a house. The plan is to spend at least 1-2 nights in Key West. CAN'T WAIT!!!
I've been to Key Largo, but isn't that about 2 hours away?

I have only been to Maryland twice for vacation, both times in Southern Anne Arundel County - at Davidsonville. I rather enjoyed being there, and if I ever get the chance to go again, I will, because I enjoyed it very much.

I have also been to the Great Smoky Mountains, around Gatlinburg, Tennessee, as well as nearby Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Sure, there are quite a few tourist attractions, but there is also some scenic beauty that can enchant a person as well.

Key Largo is about an hour--you go through there to get to Marathon, I think Key West is closer. Sloppy Joes, Margritaville and all the other bars on Duvall. Mel Fishers shipwreck museum is total coolness AND the Southern most point in the continental United States.

I fell in love with the lakes and fishing them. When I was a kid I had family in the region and we fished so many private or semi-private lakes... it seemed like its own world.

Tucson, Arizona - Love the mountain hikes, warm & dry weather and the cafes are top-notch. I hope to retire here.

Too hot in the summer though.

My sis lived in Tucson for a long time while she went to UofA for grad school.. Been up on Gate's Pass yet? I have very fond memories of the view from up there...also remember riding down into the valley on the other side to go star gazing at night.

We're not sure if we're flying into Marathon, or Key West and driving or Miami and driving. Depending on who we can sucker into driving should we start in Miami, Key Largo wouldn't be a bad stop for a couple oyster shooters. lol

Ahh. I've driven through White Plains, but never saw the lakes. I always thought they were further up state. In that case, I don't blame you.
