Spending money and actually caring about how your team is doing and is willing to do whatever it takes to make the team an annual contender...

Yeah, I would never wish that upon anyone... I'd love to see him sell the team, but that won't happen anytime soon :(

True, there are some who contend that George Steinbrenner has done his part to ruin baseball, via his manic spending, but he also made the sports world more interesting - just by being himself.

Rest in Peace, George Steinbrenner. You will be missed.

My family is split. But I've been to several Giants games and tend to cheer for them.

He's the reason that the players make these ridiculous salaries and baseball will never really have parity. Here you got the Yankees spending at will every year to get ANYBODY that they desire at any price and you have teams like Baltimore and Pittsburgh who haven't had a winning season in over 10 years and are struggling to keep even their own homegrown stars in town.

The Yankee's have broken no rules. I applaud him for putting profits back into the team. Pittsburgh uses themselves a s a farm team. Is he supposed to not spend money because another team can't afford to? If MLB thought he (or anyone else) was ruining the game they could have/would have changed it. Perhap they will, but this is nothing new.

Some teams just don't have the market. Look at the Jaguars; the NFL HAS a cap and the Jags are failing. Some owners just don't want to spend the money; you should be angry at them.

I just hope somehow a salary cap could be implemented someday but that would probably take big work stoppage....the players union is too strong

You never know, friend. It could happen, and maybe it could happen without a work stoppage.

As much as I disliked the Yanks over the years, you cannot deny that he spared no expense to ensure the championship went home to NY. Nothing bad to say sbout him, just didnt like that the Yanks (aka AL All-Star team) won every year and people bandwagoned them.
