Extended Season?

Ok so, In light of the poll on the front page about having an extended season I figured that I would throw my idea out there. Just stick with me for a moment..

Ok, so most players are freaking out about playing any more regular season games than 16. So here's what they could do:

A) Play a 17 game, 18 week regular season instead of 18 games in 19 weeks
Play a 17 game `19 week regular season to include an idle week before the last game

I'm not a fan of the idea of adding two regular season games without cutting two pre-season games. Even though pre-season games don't mean anything, they ARE extremely valuable in terms of evaluating talent, so I'd say cut off one pre-season game AT MOST.

Another interesting thing that they could do with the 17th game is make it an out of division rivalry game. Just think of teams that are in a close proximity but only get play eachother once every 4 years.

We could see Jets-Giants or Chargers-49er's, Raider's-49er's, Rams-Cheifs, Ravens-Redskins or Ravens-Eagles and the list goes on..
