RUMOR: Eagles Could Be Interested In Troy Smith

According to Rotoworld, The Eagles might be interested in acquiring back up quarterback Troy Smith for same role if they decide to move on from the Michael Vick days.

As you all know, Vick doesn't have the greatest track record and this recent shooting at a birthday party isn't helping.

I know Vick wasn't involved but the fact that he is hanging out with the same crowd that got him in trouble for dog fighting doesn't help his NFL future.

I think Troy would be a good back up, I wonder what we would get in return. a 5th or 6th?

I'll gladly take DeSean Jackson for Troy Smith. Seriously though, we wouldn't get higher than a 5th, but I wouldn't be surprised to get a 6th. I love Smith, but he hasn't shown anything for a team to be willing to take a huge risk on him.

Yeah, a 5th or 6th is our best bet. No way we could get anything higher or a starter. Maybe we trade him for a depth guy?

I say 5th or 6th, and some player who could add depth at the offensive line.

Try and get something for him while you actually can.
All he's worth is a 5th or lower pick, nothing more. Letting him walk instead of trading him for such a low pick wouldn't hurt us at all. I'd much rather keep him around til he crawls from the team than trade him for a garbage pick.

He would have to crawl even farther from Philly to Cleveland

lol +1!

GOOD! At least we know the Eagles aren't afraid to pull their starting QB if they aren't performing.

Look, forget which side you are on for just a minute.

The simple fact is... the only way to settle anything is if Troy Smith ends up playing. Then the sides can fight and one of them will end up getting to say "told you so."

And if he went to the Eagles... it would be a decent shot. He has only `1 QB to battle for playing time, and if you're not blind... then you know that Kevin Kolb is just as unproven as Troy Smith is. It's definitely a great opportunity for Troy if it ends up happening.

I hope this happens so I can stop hearing people argue that Troy Smith is an elite QB, and also stop hearing people argue that Troy Smith is horrible and will never start at the NFL level. I'm ready to see him play more than a few snaps in garbage time with back-up players.

I heard on the radio this evening that the Eagles announced today they have done their investigation and Vick is "clear". They have no intention of getting rid of him.

Hm? Than I wonder if they knows this: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/07/vick-had-to-be-restrained-in-confrontation-before-shooting/
Just minutes before someone was shot outside Eagles quarterback Michael Vick's birthday party, Vick got into a confrontation and had to be restrained by friends and placed inside a limousine that took him away, the Commonwealth's Attorney in Virginia Beach said today.

Vick is not a suspect in the shooting, but Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey L. Bryant addressed Vick's actions before the shooting when he discussed the case today. Bryant went on to say that friends restrained Vick and put him in a limo, but that Vick then got back out to again confront someone. Bryant would not identify the person Vick was confronting.
So he is clear even though he got into a confrontation with someone and he got out of the limo and had to be restrained? Not good judgment, cut him Andy and send us a 5th or 6th down 95 and you'll get Troy Smith whenever he is done crawling north bound from Baltimore to Philly.

Eagles are a mess. Getting rid of Donovan McNabb was one of the worst moves in NFL history.
Yep and not only are they a mess but liars, Andy Reid sat in press conferences and kept saying McNabb WILL BE the QB in 2010, numerous times yet they end up trading him, lie # 1. They say they won't cut Vick.... Vick will be the next go, that will be lie # 2. I don't trust a thing coming out of Reid's mouth anymore, Andy Reid will be fired within two years.

I don't have any negative feelings towards Troy, I would love for the Ravens to get something and for him to get the chance he never really had.

I thought about this last night, The Eagles moving away from Vick and possibly wanting Troy... So many things would have to fall into place for this to happen, however. It's something to watch, for sure. It would be nice for Troy to get his shot at a starter spot.

I guess the Eagles have a short memory. Think back a little bit to 1964 when they sent Sonny Jurgensen to Washington. Same stupid move. I expect the same outcome where McNabb tears it up like Sonny did.

So Philly wants to go from Vick to Vick-lite. :empty trophy case:

As far as I'm concerned, a turkey sandwich would be a fair trade.

Wasn't something similar said about the Patriots when they traded their long time quarterback within their division?

Maybe the 5th/6th round pick will be another Adalius Thomas or Jared Gaither?
Exactly. Look at what trading from 25th got us, Kindle and Cody along with some nice other picks thanks to Denver. Who knows but that extra late round pick for next year may turn out to be someone who would be a great player for us. I'm all for extra picks. Come on Andy... Pull The Trigger.

It would be hard to get even a 6th pick for Smith. But luckily his value is higher as Vick might be gone.

If the Eagles really want Smith, they should just wait it out because he might be a cut casualty this year.

I could see some other teams who might be interested in Smith waiting it out to see how our QB situation will play out. But in the Eagles case, this would be a good move for them as well as Troy. Vick is their only backup and there's a good chance, even if they were to keep him, that he'll face a suspension for the altercation. The time for the Eagles to make a move is now before camp starts.

Ozzie will work his magic again. I have no doubts. The Ravens have always found value in players from the later rounds.

I had to look up who the Eagles' third QB was - rookie Mike Kafka. He ran a beautiful two-minute drill in the East-West Shrine Game.

As the old adage goes " Be careful for what you ask for.." the fans in Philly will boo him out of town if he doesn't produce when called upon
