Hopefully he can develop with his coverage and improve as some of our LB's have in our system. It would be tremendous help if we ended up having a deadly punch on the outside with Suggs and Kindle in a few years. JJ is good yes but he doesn't always have that oomph and athleticism that we need at the OLB position. If Kindle does what he is suppose to do and what's expected we're going to have the 2nd best 1-2 punch at OLB behind the Steelers(just give it some time), and could make a case for the best LB corps in the NFL.

Just a pass-rusher role. Mostly on 3rd downs, the kind of role Antwan Barnes had last season. We should expect to see all our best pass-rushers in those situations, with Cody eating up blockers. Deadly...

<Who> only knows why we only started using Barnes in passing situations near the end of the season, he had like 4 sacks in 4 games.

I like Barnes when he is in to pass rush.

Gooden is listed to the same size as Lewis but 8 lbs lighter, but it he looked like a db compared to Ray Ray last year.

Kindle has great talent, no question. But I think with our LB's Kindle will only be starting on special teams. He'll be fantastic in the future but I think he'll most likely fill in during injuries when he's playing on the starting D this year. But in the future he'll most likely become the OLB on either side.

Even if Kindle only plays in pass rush situations, which i fully expect, he could have a huge impact on this defense. One of the interesting things about the defense right now is the amount of pass rush situations that I expect this team to be in right now.

Think about it. With Ngata, a healthy Gregg, a better Suggs, Pryce, Redding, and Cody there won't be a lot of running against the Ravens Defense. The Ravens could seriously be in that 2.5 yards per carry range against the run this year, and if that is the case, teams will be forced to pass more. That will give guys like Kindle, Barnes, JJ, Suggs, and McClain even more rushing opportunities.

Then you have this factor. The Ravens offense looks to score even more points this season then last. Last season the Ravns lead the AFC North in point differential with 130, with was good enough for 3rd best then the AFC and 6th best in the NFL. Now with a much more balanced offense, the Ravens could be jumping out to more early leads this year and allowing the defense to pin their ears back and get after some QBs.

Good post and I couldn't agree more.

The performance of Kindle is directly linked to Suggs' performance in my opinion. Suggs isn't a dominant pass rusher liker Ware or Harrison but at 255-260, he can more than get after the QB which will enable others(like Kindle) to get opportunities.

I agree I have always been a Barnes fan, and we never put him out there enough. I see both of them out there on pass-rush situations. We are going to get a good amount of sacks this year...

In reference to the future, Ray is to Ellerbe, as Bart Scott is to Gooden. Gooden is super fast, did you see him chase down AP last year? He plays hard, he is learning from Ray. He might start this year, he is just injury prone, something we work hard on to prevent, and it has paid off the past two seasons with free weights rather than resistance lifting. Should be a good ILB battle to watch at camp.

I disagree, Bart Scott looked a little bigger than Gooden. And he hit WAY harder. He actually hit.

This guy is the real deal. I was watching some highlights man he does not miss tackles.
I think he may have a steap learning curve in the Ravens defense. I see him starting from about 3 games into the season.

you got me the cats out the bag.

Wow.

Rarely would a highlight reel show the star player missing a tackle. Actually, it would never..

Gooden is more of a pursuit LB, Scott is a thumper. Ellerbe would be more of a thumper than a pursuit guy.

Also, if you believe all the pundits, our secondary completely sucks and everybody will be trying to throw all day against us. Having had (I think) the 8th ranked pass defense, I don't think we're quite deserving of that disrespect. Injuries be damned. Plus Frank and his penchant for grabbing jerseys is removed from the equation. He is replaced by a former pro bowler in Harris. Hopefully with the kind of pressure I think we can generate, there will be many picks to be had out there.

Well Sergio is an OLB and if anything I think he will be replacing Jarrett Johnson one day. Not anytime now though, just on passing downs.

I think Ellerbe and Gooden will be the ones to be our Middle Linebackers of the future.

No one can replace Ray Lewis. No one.
I cant say where Kindle will be 3 years down the road from now, I think he would be more likely to fill the shoes of Jarret Johnson. Not Ray Lewis.. and although Lewis will NEVER be replaced we certaintly need to check out options because Ray Ray cant play forever.. I expect to see alot of Kindle this year on Special teams He has already came out and said he'd be rookie of the year.. that should tell you that this guy wants to make an impact on not just the Ravens team but the league in general. I think he will mostly play at the OLB position unless he gains some weight but that will take away his speed. Either way he'll remain a Raven for years to come.

Serg looks to have great closing speed. If he can shed blocks he's gonna have lots of opportunities to catch Roethlisberger :P .

I love all the things that the Ravens have done to make them a better team. On defense Sergio Kindle is going to be a force to be reckoned with. His Speed and strength is a huge plus and I love his character.

Do you think this guy will have an impact this year vs. Ellerbee and other linebackers ?

Could he ultimately replace Ray Lewis one day ?
We need all our draft picks to have a fairly immediate impact if we want to hoist the Lombardi once again. Can kindle replace Ray Lewis ? Sooner or later someone will have to step into Ray's position but there will be no replacing Ray, ever, be it on the field or in the locker room !

Maybe he means could Kindle replace Ray as the heart and soul of the D? It's hard to say, those are more than just big shoes to fill.
